World of Color - Letdown?

WOC was good, not great. A lot of viewing issues. But, I saw it when it had the TRON encore. The TRON portion was better then the entire WOC show, to me. To each, their own.

Since, TRON is no longer in the show, I don't feel the need to see it again.

I liked the Tron segment..but also like the new Pirates one. My inlaws and their families absolutely HATED the Tron sequence since it came toward the end they thought it was jarring and ruined the feeling..again..different perceptions :confused3

Add us to the "less than impressed" club. All the planning/waiting/standing involved stinks, plus I think it's too long.

Remember Dreams Come True - I love, love, love this show - especially in its original form - but there is no story. It is a celebration of Disneyland and its rides and Walt's Disney's dream.

Since we are talking about story, what you put here is the story. When I watch that Fireworks show I know what the show is about, when I watch Fantasmic I know what it is about, I watch World Of Color I have no clue what it is about. Take for instance the UP part of World Of Color, why is it there? After watcing that part I go :confused3. Just my opinion.

My DH & I saw WOC last year. WOC was okay, it wasn't bad and we might see it again sometime, but I still prefer Fantasmic.

There are a lot of folks who agree with you so I am not trying to change anyone's mind - just debate for fun. :)

With RDCT I would say Disney uses the canvas of pyrotechnics and lighting effects to celebrate Disneyland the park - its rides and (in the case of MSEP) shows - both current and removed.

With WOC I would say Disney uses the canvas of water and lighting effects to celebrate its cinematic characters - especially the more colorful ones both visually and metaphorically - with a heavy bias towards more recent characters just as RDCT has a heavy bias towards more recent rides.

To my mind celebration does not count as story. But like most Disney parades celebration is still fun.

I really love WoC, but I don't have to see it every time I am at the Disney parks (which is a lot, being a premium annual passholder). Each time I do see it though, it gives me goosebumps. I love the music... that alone almost makes the whole experience for me.

I am really into Fantasmic though, and that is definitely the thing I try to see every time. I even have a "secret" location I go to watch the show from that is never crowded and a great view, no matter how many people are packed in. I think Disneyland's Fantasmic is way > than the one in FL, but I still love that one as well.

I like a fun debate so let's go. :thumbsup2 I can see your point with the Fireworks, and the show told a better story when it was for the 50th. Now if you can tell me the point to the Up part of WOC is for the debate will be over. everytime I see it I am like what was that all about.

No here is a great point. The only part I disagree with is, I think I would rather go get teeth pulled tan see that insult to Fantasmic at WDW.

Ok I will bite. How about balloons are colorful? :)

It's a scene change. Didn't you notice the curtain rising again?

and once from VGC 6th floor viewing area (great different perspective)

I hadn't heard about the VGC viewing area....can you tell me a little more about that? Is it open to anyone staying at VGC? We might like to try that area on our arrival evening.

That's because they dimmed the lights.

Sorry I am just going to have to respectfully disagree. That one I can't buy into. I do want to go on the record that I do not think it is a bad show. It is a feast for my eyes.

I think it's open to anyone staying at VGC..room key opens the door. It's in the new wing, 6th floor, easy to find. There are restrooms and a soda machine up there. I've never found it crowded, but others have reported it was, and you'd need to be by the rail to get a decent view. Super easy though and the music is piped in, so pleasant experience.

We were disappointed as well. It wasn't the show itself that was disappointing. Well, at least I don't think it was. To be honest, I couldn't really tell you because we couldn't see most of it. We were in what was supposed to be a prime viewing location and saw very little of the actual show due to the crowd. The viewing "situation" is horrendous and that to me is the biggest oversight of all. I mean seriously, did no one from Disney stand in that area and realize that you can not see anything unless you are right on the center railing?

Well I will admit they are colorful. Still I don't get it and why Doug says his line.

I guess for me, Doug is the most colourful and loveable character in the show (I loved the old man cause he reminded me of my grandfather, but he wasn't 'loveable' in a sense). His line, to me at least, is the best line in the movie, showing unconditional love.

It might be out of place, I won't disagree there, and I think it would be better to tie it in with the other scenes of love (Simba and his Dad, Dumbo and his Mom, etc.), but for me, there were many expressions of love for people and for the world of colour that surrounds us all, inside and outside Disney movies. I guess I just figure they wanted a line from the movie (rather than be silent during the clip full of colourful balloons) that tied in.

It beats "Get off my porch". :rotfl:

Saw it for the first time this weekend, was expecting something along the lines of Fantasmic, but thought this fell way short. I was wondering, am I in the minority here or is there a lot of people that were initially somewhat disappointed by it?

We were right along the fence so no one was in front of us. It totally exceeded our expectations and we loved it! I would see again! We usually do WDW, but we saw this show and Fantasmic last weekend. We really liked it!

I have to agree with this sentiment. My family loves this show, but we are AP holders and have the time to wait 90+ minutes for a prime spot. I’m not sure I would be willing to do that on a vacation with limited time, and from all reports, if you are not in a prime spot, then the show is a waste of time.

I too have to wonder why Disney didn’t do a better job with the viewing area.

Oh – I would also like them to remove the scene where Simba cuddles up to his dead father. It’s so very sad and just puts me into a downer that I could do without.

Well I will admit they are colorful. Still I don't get it and why Doug says his line.

To me the "Up" scene is a connector scene between what comes before and goes after.

WOC starts with a song and quote about color and imagination. It is not hard to see how those are connected. Then it starts with water/ocean and the colorful aspects of that with Little Mermaid (two scenes) then Finding Nemo (two scenes).

This transitions into space with Wall-e and the Buzz Lightyear scenes about flying and space (which has captured the imagination of many). Now they need a transition to the stuff after this which is less about a place and more about friendship and love.

So what to do? Well they put the colorful balloons of Up in there, tying in the flying/space theme and end with Dug's quote about love. This transitions into the Aladdin song about A Whole New World, which continues the theme around imagination but also begins to introduce the concept of love/friendship which is further explored in You Ain't Never Had a Friend Like Me.

But love/friendship has its price as we see in Pocahontas which afterward transitions into the adventure and fighting the bad guys section. You have to fight for what you believe in and for true love/friendship. Love will make the ultimate sacrifice in the Lion King section. But true love wins in the end as they show Belle's true love for the Beast undo the spell and then we see all the Princesses find their Prince. Then it ends with the tie back to beginning with color and imagination with the characters making another appearance. Very colorful and obviously full of imagination!
