World of Color dinner package not so great

Goodness, some not so nice comments really on both sides of things here. Everyone is entitled to their opinion first off. When I was a kid we never saw the shows or parades. My family thought they were a waste of time, and that was the best time to hit the rides while people lined up for hours on end. My first time seeing Fantasmic was when I was with a group for school that went down for a convention and had a day in DL. I was 15. I was pretty hooked after that! People like my Mom would probably still think it's nuts to wait 1 1/2 hours for any show.

However not everyone has the time or even the want to research like crazy like some of us do. And really Disney should be a bit more clear on the WOC mess. And it IS a mess! We lined up last year, and it was a mad dash to the front to get a good viewing spot. The wait was really long and our legs were hurting before we even got to the show! People in the long line kept edging up and edging up so that when we walked over they could get in front. It was a mad house! Add in these meals that make it seems like your going to get some advantage for paying, but not really saying you'll get a perfect view. Well that's confusing to a lot of people.

The WOC super thread here is a lot of info to go through. I know I feel overwhelmed trying to get information from it. This year we'll have someone in a wheel chair, that is also mentally disabled and won't be able to handle 1 1/2 hours. They also won't be able to afford the dining dinner package. So we'll get fast passes and hope we can get a decent spot in the wheelchair area. I couldn't find anything about this in the thread, if there is it would have taken more time for me to find it then I have I guess.

In the end I think Disney really needs to do SOMETHING to fix it. You can't get frustrated with people who don't like a set up that you agree has a lot of flaws.

It doesnt seem weird to anyone else to stand in line for 1.5 hours and then hope you can still see the show?

Just seems like a terrible setup. I'll be there in a couple of week, likely to skip woc. Just doesn't seem worth it, especially if you are there with kids.

Yes, I agree with this to an extent, but to be FAIR if you want a really good view of Fantasmic, you usually have to show up 45-60 mins minimum and thats a 20 year old show! Fireworks, even though ANYWHERE in Main Street is fine, if you want the BEST views you have to get there in a spot at least an hour or more as well. So its not like this is only WOC problem.

But the thing that bothers me about WOC is that its the only show you are given a FP, but you have to show up basically at opening of the park OR time it for the second show if you want the blue and yellow section, because these are the sections worth getting. The red section is really just a waste! But thats also a THIRD of the viewing area!

So yes, poorly designed viewing area, plus long waits with a FP does put people off a built. Its a lot of standing and then if you dont get a good view after all that standing, people can get cranky abou it.

Like I said though, I dont even bother anymore at all if I'm on my own. The standby line across from TLM ride is the best open secret to see this show if you dont want to do the crazy waits! You get entire views, NO obsticle viewing, minus the people walking pass the walkway and you can snag a spot 5 mins before showtime. No lining up for FP and then another hour plus wait to be herd in like cattle.

I will say this. If you really want to do the park, fine, do it! BUT if you get the red section, dont even bother and just find a spot across the way at TLM standby. You will see waaay more of the show there then you would in the red section unless you are in the very front!

My advice is to take your kids in front of TLM standby to watch it and if you guys dont like it, you can simply leave and hit the ride!

..and..the garbage cans by Little Mermaad are a nice last minute spot..iffy on any projections but the projections aren't visible in alot of the FP areas also. Really hope they fix this at some point, because this is a fabulous show when you get to actually see it.

I know HydroGuy said to stop posting in this thread but I would just like to say, watching WOC on YouTube and being there in person are two very different environments. I was one of those people who cried whilst watching it (and during the fireworks too) - yes it may be 'just' a water/light show, but for those who rarely get the chance to go to Disneyland, or have grown up alongside Disney, or have seen their parents or family make big sacrifices for the trip, it is a special and heartwarming show. The music, lights and projections along with the (crowded) audience makes for a wonderful environment provided you are able to get decent seats. The Superthread is very helpful I found in helping. I was there in January 2010 and whilst it was off season we did wait for 30minutes and it was worth it.

All I can tell you from my inside friends is that they are ripping out and redoing the seating area for WOC. One of the things they are looking into is a collasible stadium seating setup.
What pissed me off is we were in the handicapped premiere dining section for my son. He got to sit on the bench with me and my husband was asked to stand in the back so the people in wheelchairs could be up front and see and that others who needed the benches could sit down. Ok I understand that, my husband didn't get to enjoy the show with us, but in the section in front of us two guys put their kids on their shoulders. I nicely asked the castmember to ask them to remove their kids because we couldn't see and she said she couldn't do that she can't ask them to do that. Why the hell not? You asked my husband to move to the back of the seciton so people in wheelchairs could see but you can't ask them to remove their kids from shoulders so I can see?
WIth the fireworks standing is a bit different because everyone is looking upwards but in WOC you are looking forward and seating would be a MUCH better option, like Fantasmic has it.

TwingleMum... Thanks for asking what TLM was.... I was having a brain freeze (more like a blizzard) too.

We were there in Dec 2010 for Christmas, and this was our first time seeing the WOC. Before our trip I joined this board (advice from my older and a bit wiser sister) and did much research here. Thanks to HydroGuy for the thread and many other things I learned from this board.

We did the usual wiating for 1.5 hours, being herded like cattle (think I even made "cow" sounds) and mad rush for the railing. We got lucky and got a spot up front on the rail. We (a family of 4) spread out along this railing and had a great view.

Then, while waiting for the show to start, I overheard a family that had two small girls, with the older girl worried that she and her sister would not be able to see the show very well.

I got behind my wife and my daughter got behind her brother, now only taking up 2 spots on the rail; turned around to the little girl and told her " I was saving you a spot for you and your sister, and it is here if you want it". Though it was dark (of course) I could see her smile from ear to ear. Her parents said thank you (many times) and put their two girls next to the railing and stood behind them.

We all enjoyed the show together and had a great time. It is worth it, and I am so glad that Disney is looking at ways to fix this issue.

I saw the show 2 nights ago and loved it.

My sister hates crowds (note that this is a "hate" not "dislike"; but no need to go into the reasons here) so got the Premium Viewing Tickets at WCT. Fully worth it, food was good, although not perfect, and being escorted into a prime viewing area 30min before the show started was magic. Kinda like the show itself.

Did the Fantasmic dessert last night, and same thing again.

Although both are high cost for an average-income family, they were fully worth it for us. Avoiding crowds and having to line up that early is priceless.

With lunch you get a blue FP, with dinner you get a pass for the preferred viewing area. If you are just looking for free fastpasses to the show, you can get those from the machines at Grizzly River Rapids.

Could they make this less clear on the DL site? I didn't know that WCT lunch was basically the same deal as WOC picnic as far as FPs go. Only with WCT or AG dinner do we get the really good seating. That's what they should call it "The WOC Really Good Seating," that'd be more clear.

Oops, you're right about the seating vs. standing. I stand corrected there. But if you read about WOC WCT here it is explained that for both the dinner and the lunch you get "Disney Dining Reserved Viewing ticket." The WOC picnic calls it a "ticket that promises you a vantage point." Clear as mud IMO.

It's terribly worded and incredibly misleading. I obviously love Disneyland but I can't pretend that they aren't trying to fool people into purchasing something that they can flat out get for free. If you saw my post on the superthread, I called to ask and they were incredibly transparent about that fact over the phone, but the website is definitely a bit of a trick.
