We've never seen the World of Color show at DCA. We've always been huge Fantasmic fans, but since Fantasmic is on hiatus, we decided that during our upcoming trip we will make an effort to see World of Color. :rainbow:

I'm trying to figure out if the seating is better if you do either a dinner package or a dessert package versus just getting a FastPass.

What are your thoughts?

Thank you!:thanks:

FastPass and dinner packages are standing options only, not seating. The dessert package offers actual seating for the show! We now do the dessert party, but previously did the dining package many times as we like to eat at the Wine Country Trattoria or Carthay Circle. The locations for the dining packages are better than the regular FastPass areas in my opinion, but you still have to get there early (at least 30 minutes to 1 hr depending on crowds that day), wait on the ground and stand for the show with the chance of a child's butt hoisted in your face making for a pleasant view. We love WOC and end our trips with the dessert party, seats with a great view and a glass of sparking wine...a perfect end to our trip.

We too love F! and can't wait for it's return in 2017.

Just my 2 cents and I'm sure you will have many other opinions shortly. Regardless you will love WOC! Mike

We just did the dessert package for the first time (have done dining packages before) and I don't think we will ever watch without it again! Just having seats where I (5'4") can see over others is worth the price. We enjoyed the food that was served as well. We were a group of 6 - 3 teens, one Mom, 2 very spry grandparents - and everyone gave it a big thumbs up!

Thanks! I found the thread with the dessert party into and I'm beginning to think this might be the way to go. We will have 7 in our party (me and dh, two 17 yo, two 14 yo and a 9 yo).

So the price for the WOC dessert party is $79 - is that the price for anyone, regardless of age? I just don't think I can justify $79 for each of my two kids plus my dh and myself :(

that's how i feel too!

It is totally possible to have a great view of WOC from the free FP areas. Study the map on the first page of the WOC Superthread, then scope out where you want to be earlier in the day before lining up. If you want to be up by a railing or up front in the wet zone, you will need to line up early to make sure you get those spots. We've done the dining packages and the free FPs numerous times with good results. It really comes down to how much time you want to invest in waiting and how much money you want to spend.

We did WOC twice with regular FP and twice left exhausted from holding kids up so they could see (not on shoulders!). Neither Mrs McN or I are tall either (I'm not quite 5'6 and she is shorter) so we really had no chance.

Last year we did the Carthay dining package and it was excellent. There are waaaay less people in that area and we were able to be by the rail with unobstructed views. I don't think it is the best viewing area, you are a few tiers back, but it was so nice not being crowded.

The dessert package with chairs sounds even better but $79 is really up there - I think I would still do the Carthay package over that.

I've done the WOC dining package a couple of times now, but primarily because I enjoy dining at Carthay Circle, which I would do anyways. Getting to see WOC from a reserved viewing area is just an added benefit. It is usually less crowded than the other viewing areas.

I am considering the WoC dessert party for my husband and I in December. I'm a little nervous though because I read that each table seats 4, so being a party of two we may be seated with two other random people. I'm not the worst at social interactions, but I don't enjoy making small talk with strangers either...has anyone had any experience with the dessert party as a couple?

I did the WOC meal package, Wine Country Tratoria on 29 June. The ticket said be at the area no later than 8.45pm. At 7.45pm I was just heading to go again on Little Mermaid when I saw people in line by the roped off section. I asked the CM and was told this was the line for the dining package area and then would be letting people into the section at 8pm. So instead of going on Little Mermaid I stayed in line. At 8pm, the CM opened the rope and we could go down to the viewing area. There were a few people ahead of me but there was still room at the railings, one section behind the splash zone. We had the option of going down to the splash zone. I stayed at the railings and had an unobstructed view, as the splash zone area was lower than where I was.

The dining package section really filled up by 8.20pm. The prime areas in the section are the railings and then the steps. By 8.30pm alot of people and families were disappointed to see the section so full when the ticket said be in the area for 8.45pm

My sister and her family were at DCA yesterday. They did the dining package at Ariel's Grotto and showed up at the WOC spot about 20 minutes ahead of when their pass said to return. They got a spot right at the rail in the splash zone with no trouble. She said the dining package was "worth every penny." Now I'm torn again between the dining package (which is cheaper for a group of 7) and the dessert package. Ugh. I might be over thinking this...

@Geekmom24
Dining Package - standing in splash zone or 1st section behind splash zone, unobstructed view if there early
Dessert Package - seated in 3rd section up but elevated so unobstructed view

Dining Package - food at any time during the day
Dessert Package - food during WOC

Dining Package - under $40
Dessert Package - $79

I'm torn between the dining and dessert packages as well. I have a super picky child and I know he will eat maybe 1 thing off that dessert plate, so that $79 will go to waste. While having actual seats sound good, I think I will take my chances with the Ariel's Grotto package. I really hate wasting hours trying to get a good spot for shows/parades, so hopefully the dining package will shave off some of the wait time.

The CM will give you a to-go box for your leftovers, if that makes a difference. We had a box of goodies for the next day in the room.

I saw this happen when I did the PTN package at Blue Bayou in DL. People were showing up right at 30 minutes prior to the show, only to find a line for the reserved viewing area.

"We were told be here 30 minutes prior!" they would tell the CM angrily.

Dude - everyone was told to be there 30 minutes prior. If you were naive enough to think that showing up only 30 minutes prior would put you at the front of the line, that's on you.

We did the Carthay Circle dining package for WOC at Christmas time a few years back and it was amazing. We arrived about an hour early for World of Colour and got the pick of the CC area so stood right up the front against the railing and the view was perfect, even though everyone in our party is on the short side. I should add that it rained the whole time, so that probably kept the crowds away.

The dessert package sounds like it would be great, but the price is definitely off-putting.

Next time we go we'll probably try the WCT dining package.

If it were reduced rate for the kids - say $35 for kids - then I'd be seriously considering this. But $79 for kids too? Bah. HUMBUG! :sad1:

I completely understand that it is expensive for a family. But there really is no need to reduce the price for kids. Kids get everything the adult gets (seat, dessert, drink) plus they get a light up cup to take home. I do think they need have more kids friendly desserts for the under 12 crowd.

I did not have dinner the night I did the package because I figured grapes, cheese & bread made a nice light dinner before the yummy desserts. Even with that said it took me 3 days to finish the desserts. I also got two glasses of the World of Cooler "adult" beverage.
