Hey all! My dad is wanting to surprise my mom with a date night in September when they go to Disneyland with a WOC dessert package, but as he and my mom are both type 2 diabetic, what are the dessert packages like for those with that type of diet restriction? I know it sounds silly, but they really love the show and this could be a fun experience for them. I know that when you go to reserve the package you can tell them about your dietary needs, or at least this is what I am reading online, but I haven't heard what kind of things they offer for those who have diabetes. If anyone has any idea about the food that is served to diabetics I would love to pass this knowledge onto my dear old dad. TIA.
Hi there. We just returned from doing the WOC Dessert Party with a member of our party who is diabetic.
As instructed on the reservation confirmation, we contacted the special diet department to request a diabetic plate.
A few days later we received a call from Disney. The rep advised they couldn’t guarantee availability of a diabetic option but would advise the chef, who they said would provide it at their discretion. (Whatever that means.) They advised it is usually a fruit and cheese plate with crackers for the diabetic option.
I thanked them and offered feedback about the lack of low sugar/low glycemic options overall at DL, but in particular at a premium event.
Things went smoothly when we checked in at 9:15pm for the party. We were given a wristband of a different color than the rest of our party to indicate the special dietary request.
The diabetic option simply replaced all the dessert confections with melon. (More melon than I’d wager even someone who really loves melon would find excessive.) The cheese, crackers, and grapes remained the same as the other dessert plates.
Yes, they accommodated our request… No, it’s not what I’d call premium or a good value for a $90 per person dessert party.
Go in expecting that you’re just paying $90 for a chair, and you’ll be pleasantly surprised.
Here’s a photo of the diabetic plate (July 2024). Note: the grapes and crackers are sitting on top of even more melon…
