World Help - Hurricane Assistance

But in this case, I don't see how a few bottles of water and some food would be a bad thing to give. I mean, if you give food and water, you know that the donation is not going to be split up and used for "administration costs".

Because at this point in time there really isn't any resources to be able to sort things that come in randomly...they have all they can do to sort and distribute that which is scheduled. And you can specify, at least through the Red Cross and Salvation Army, that your donation be used for the Hurricane Relief.

Sorry everyone, no I really I am! I mean, stupid me. I really should've been riveted to the television for the past three days or taken time to read through everything fine printed line of the newspaper before I made my original post. Wow! Stupid, stupid

The post was made in jest people, you know, tongue in cheek, not to be taken seriuosly!

Give me a break!

And by the way, I take great exception to "it is people like the OP who unfortunately give Americans a bad name across the world." When in fact, it's people across this world who know nothing about our country, patriotism and way of life, that gives us a bad name!

I would go on a rant, but then I'll probably be tagged as a "arrogant, flag waving, patriotic nitwit!"

Correct me if I"m wrong, which I'm sure someone will....but wasn't there 'world' help prior to 7:30am this morning?

I heard about a dozen or more countries who had pledged support last night. And I haven't even really been watching that much coverage.

You know instead of being petulant and snarky, you (meaning the OP) could just say oops my bad and let the thread die.

Petulant and snarky? Hmmm...I still feel like being snarky!

Maybe somebody can help me - I was watching the noon news, our ABC-affiliate, and they cut to their London ABC affiliate which was running a story about all the countries that have offered condolences and/or aid. I could swear I heard that Russia had 2 planes loaded with relief supplies ready to go but the US refused their help. I was trying to find this reported somewhere so I could check to confirm whether I heard correctly. Do any of you know if this is true? :confused3 I'm hoping I heard it wrong; if this IS true, I'd really like to know WHY they would refuse help. Even the greatest nation in the world needs help now and then!
I heard the same thing. Actually, the news report I heard is that Bush has refused ALL international aid as of right now.

Yet, he goes on national tv today and tells the suffering people to "be patient."

Be patient? Come on -these people are dying! Sorry for the rant. But, I thought the president was doing a good job on relief efforts- but now I don't know.

I also heard a news report this morning that there is no Red Cross in NO, nor are there supplies being brought in because the goal is to evacuate everybody out of NO. Consequently, they halted supplies to NO because they didn't want supplies there if people were leaving.

Reported on the Today show (NBC) this morning.

No wonder his numbers have dropped below 35%. The lowest of any president in American history at this time in their term except for Nixon. Apparently, according to the news, there are many, many people across the country who think Bush is not doing enough for the people. Lots of talk, but not much action.
