I’m going to need to get some work done while on vacation. I was wondering if you could recommend the hotel with the best room layout to get some work done. Thank you!

We would need a little more info, such as how many people in your party and what kind of budget you are looking at. All of the Disney resorts have in room wifi and some sort of table to sit at while working. Do you need access to a business center for printing? Do you need a separate workspace from where your family is relaxing? Are you looking for a resort that is convenient to return to from the parks frequently?

They all have a desk or small table, free wifi, what else do you need specifically? My husband works on all our vacations (he's the COO of his own company with hundreds of employees so needs to stay in touch, work on his laptop and take conference calls). If you need one with a business center, maybe look at the ones that have that, like printers, etc. I think the ones with a convention center (Yacht & Beach Club, CR, GF come to mind) will have more.

Sorry for being so vague! We are currently booked at the wilderness lodge club level. I was thinking I might be able to get some work done in the club lounge, but I wasn’t sure how the WiFi is there. I’m considering switching to the Contemporary as the room seems to have more space so we aren’t on top of each other while I’m trying to work. In the running is also the Beach Club or Port Orléans-Riverside.

I hopefully won’t need the business center while I’m there, if I do I can make a quick stop at a monorail hotel as I saw you didn’t need to be a guest to use the business center.

I think the lounge is a good area; during the midday time if you go it will likely not be busy, and you can grab a cup of coffee or whatnot. They are busy during breakfast and evenings, but during the midday should be quiet.

I have seen a number of individuals working on laptops in the solarium at the Beach Club. Not sure how conference calls would work. There's also a very nice glass top desk and comfortable work chair in the rooms at the Dolphin.

I did a split stay last year Contemporary/YC with my sisters, one of whom had to do some work on the trip. The CR room was large, we could definitely "feel" the difference between the two resorts, and it had a generous desk area that went the length of the wall between the bathroom and the beds, if I recall. She was able to do work at YC in the room and lounge too, which I imagine would be comparable to BC. I didn't ask her specifically, but I know she had to communicate with students and other faculty, and she didn't mention any wifi issues...

Made me think of our trip two weeks ago when a guy was sitting on a wall in Epcot doing a conference call with his laptop open (maybe video conference as he had himself set with bush and wall behind him).

I think most hotels even if not in the room you could find a place to work. I've sat in several of the lounges in the morning since many are not open yet and I was only one there. If you think you want to work in the room, I would look at images/plans of the rooms layout and if desks are offered.

The free wi-fi strength has got a lot better from when they first offered it years ago, and the signal was pretty good over the last few years.
I always suggest to people who does work on the road to either get their own Mi-Fi or add Hotspot to their cell. I do not like using unsecured hotel wi-fi for business.

I've done work before in the Animal Kingdom Lodge lobby. It was Spring Break and I was still easily able to find a quiet-ish place to plug in and work. Wifi was fine. Did not do any conference calls though.

The WL CL lounge is a great place to do some work. You’ll have noise coming up from the lobby below so it’s maybe not the best spot for a call. But it has comfy chairs, tables, and not that many people around in the lounge during the day. It won’t be good if you need total isolation, but it’s a great space.

The WL rooms themselves are on the small side with only a small table, that will probably be cluttered with all of your other travel stuff.

CR rooms are bigger, but the desk space is a bit wonky for my tastes... it’s more “form” over “function.”

Hope that helps!

We've stayed at a variety of WDW resorts and DH has worked from them all at some point, including conference call.s The most interesting was while camping at Ft. Wilderness in our pop-up trailer :sad2:. The best was a grand villa at SSR because he had space to isolate himself from noisy kids. With a laptop you can go anywhere, the wifi is decent. When DH works he'll either station himself at the desk or table in the room so that he's surrounded by family when he can. Otherwise I'll take the kids out for a bit if he needs to make calls. Otherwise he'll go in search of a quiet spot in the resort. Mid-day this will be a non-issue as they will be plentiful.

The rooms at WL are quite small. Yes, you will have the club lounge area, but there will be other people utilizing the space, noise from the lobby, etc. Personally, I would probably switch to Contemporary or Beach Club. You will get a much larger room and will have much easier access to the business centers. There is no such thing as a quick stop at a monorail resort from WL to utilize a business center, IMHO. I would take POR out of contention.

Smart move. DR has a business center (where you could probably get some work done.) WL doesn't.

Guess it depends on what you need for work.
I frequently have to process payroll and transmit a wire for payment while at Disney, which constitutes using my computer and accessing wifi.
I do it all right from the bed in the room. So I've done it from all types of resorts.
