Working while at a resort

We are considering extending our vacation. Has anyone worked while at Disney? I'm wondering how they went about it. Right now we are at Coranado Springs, and the desk should work fine. Is the Internet strong enough for work? Is there anything else I'm not considering?

Depends on what you need the internet for. If you want to video conference or similar, you may have some issues. Email? Mostly fine unless you're trying to email or Dropbox GIANT EXCEL FILES.

My husband uses skype but for phone only, not video. He's a programmer so working Internet is essential. He could survive without skype.

My husband works for a couple of days during our last trip (and his lovely boss gave him the days off without using his annual vacation days!) it was mainly emails and a couple of teleconferences but he had no issues

If you are connecting to a work VPN consult your remote access policy. Ours, for example, explicitly prohibits the use of unprotected WiFi even if you are tunneling in over a VPN. When I had to remote in I just used my LTE cell phone as a hotspot and then brought up my VPN.

Also, under no situation should you or anyone else use one of the shared business center computers for anything that requires a password including checking email. You have no idea what could be on one of those things.

I work during every vacation. The desk at Coranado is quite comfortable to work on. I did have some internet signal strength issue at the Coranado, but it was not constant.

I stayed at CBR back in March and transferred a 20 GB video file (via dropbox) without any problems. It was a little slow (I'm used to 300 Mbps internet at home), but it never timed out the connection or anything like that.

Unfortunately, I am on-call 24/7 and had to do work on most of our trips:( My company gives me a Mi-Fi that I can use during my trips, but I have used CSR's wi-fi before and it is normally real good, but as a PP mentioned it is un-secured.

I Citrix'd in for a few hours during a meltdown once. It was fine. And I was drinking beer.

Same here. Last trip was in 2014, 4 months after our ERP launch and I (sadly) spent most of the time working. VPN worked fine even after a few glasses of wine ;)

DH has made me swear no laptop, no cell phone.

Our ERP go-live is in Dec and I'm on the core team... Hoping I can step away in August completely (but we shall see...) Never tried to do "serious" work from the resort before.

I had a few deadlines to meet during each of our trips and DH had some fires to put out remotely at his office. I can only speak to the DVC experience with working while at the resorts, but it was nearly flawless. A few times, we had a spotty connection by the pool at Boardwalk, but it was really the only issue we've encountered across multiple trips with working while away. It's certainly nicer to work on a Disneyfied balcony with the palm trees than at home, that's for sure :)!

Site lead here. It went bad in a spectacular way because the site had never ran an ERP system before (don't ask, TLDR). Hardest part? Losing the signal in line in the indoor lines. I'm sure if I go back to 2014 there is a thread on here about me being "that" person.
