Working on Weight Loss and getting Lean!

Good morning ladies! Happy Friday! It's a rainy day here but it's still hot and humid. I'm hoping that the rain will break the heat and humidity for my race on Sunday.

Beth - I didn't realize you had asthma. I hope the weather improves so that you're able to breathe easier. Sorry to hear about the sweets - I read about the donuts. I can't say that my eating has been much better lately but I think we can't be too hard on ourselves with minor blips. Here's to a better week of eating for the both of us!

Debra - My heart hasn't been into running as much lately. I have noticed an improvement in speed for some of my LRs but haven't been actively doing any speedwork. I think with all the minor injuries I've had, I've never really had a problem pushing through a run but once my heart wasn't in it, that made it a lot more difficult. As for Orlando, I think you should get a house so all the leanies can come and visit you and have a meet :) I'm jealous that you'll get to spend a month in Florida even if you'll be working. Congrats to DOOD on his promotion and a raise! That is fantastic news!! Does that also mean more work for you since you're always helping out? Good luck on your weigh-in today!

Maria - Good luck with your 10 miler today! Yay for being back on track and yes I was singing along  Luckily for everyone, I'm just posting about it and not actually singing! The interview went well - I didn't hate the group but I didn't love them either. I get the feeling that a lot of investment advisors have big egos - so it would be a little like working with actors or real estate agents. I did speak to my official manager (the one who's never in the office) and he said he was okay with me taking some courses like project management, real estate management certification etc. So I might do that instead. I know it sounds like a cop-out but I don't know how well I'd handle a change of work environment right now. I'd really hate to have a melt down with a new group because some of my bad days are pretty bad. I figure with the courses, it's a smaller step but I'm heading in the right direction. Unless of course it's Pixar and then that's totally different

Tandy - My back is doing better but I'll admit I haven't been doing the exercises that my chiro gave me . My mind is somewhere else I think. I also can't any deadlifting for a while but that's okay. I'd rather get better than do a few lifts and then re-injure my back again. Ah the camping weekend - it sounds like something my parents would do. Glad you were able to get some biking and running in and I'm sure that will help with the birthday dinner! Happy belated birthday to DH! Hope you guys had a great night! I also think it's great that you're thinking about entering your son in a 5K and coaching him too! But I do hope you're able to find a team for him too :)

AFM - My eating has been okay - I'm staying off the sugar and carbs but the snacking has gone up that's definitely not helping. Lots of salty or fatty snacks like popcorn and cheese. I also ate 4 or 5 chicken wings on Tuesday (what was I thinking). I'm planning to weigh-in today but not expecting anything good. I was hoping to have lost another 5 lbs or so by the end of the month but I was counting on higher intensity workouts, higher mileage etc. My cold and back kind of threw a wrench into my plans but I'm still going to push and see how close I can get.

I went to see a therapist last week. It was a little awkward at first mostly because I wasn't comfortable with the idea but it was nice to have someone to talk to about things. I was also tired of dealing with the stress and the spontaneous tears. I know it's not going to be a quick fix but I'm willing to give the therapist a try and see if it helps.

Anyway, my 10 miler is on Sunday so I'm hoping for cooler weather and my back pain to be gone. My 30K is in about a month and I'm really behind on my training for that. But better to be under than overtrained so I'm not too worried about it.

Have a great weekend everyone! :wave2:

Hello my long lost friends!

Well, I wrote a very long post a week ago Monday addressing everyone individually and giving you a mini-synopsis of my trip, but when I clicked to submit, I must have touched the wrong key and lost the whole thing! I'm a slow typer and it probably took me close to an hour to compose everything so I was really upset. I planned to try again later in the day, but then life took over. You guys know how it is.....

Here it is in a nutshell....the cruise was fab, but we really missed Nancy and Norm. I was pretty good about eating during our trip, gained only a pound or two (great for a cruise), but then I got back home, tried to get on track.... and blew it all. We've had triple digits 4 or 5 times in the last 10 days and for most of that time my AC was on the fritz, so I did NOTHING in terms of exercise. The only walking I did was back and forth to my refrigerator, which was not a good thing. Yesterday i realized that wedding number 2 is just one month away so that scared me into the realization that I have no time to waste, so game on.

My life has been a whirlwind...all good, but really crazy. My pendulum is swinging so far to the right, I'm a little apprehensive about what's going to happen when it changes direction. It's not enough that 3 of my 4 kids are getting married within a 5-month period......the remaining child went and WON herself an Emmy! I am on an endorphin overload for sure. I think most of you have seen the photos on FB. (If you would like to friend me, just send a PM), but here's a snapshot for those who haven't
35757_437783069327_614404327_581283.jpg

I also ordered the official Emmy portraits this week and they should be coming soon. I was pleasantly surprised at the cost: $5 for an 4x6, $10 for a 5x7 and I think $17 for an 8x10. Compare that to what they want to charge us for those ASI photos at the Disney events and you'll understand why I am happy. I was afraid they would totally gouge us being Hollywood and all.

For anyone who would like to be a fly on the wall at my daughter's wedding, there is a beautiful slideshow complete with awesome music at the the following link: www.vesic.com/kyriakopoulos. I must warn you that it runs for about 20 minutes which may be more time than you want to invest. It does a great job of capturing the essence of the day start to finish and the music is just incredible. If you do go to the link, just click on the slideshow. There are probably close to 1000 still photos on the website, but the slideshow just uses the very best. Enjoy!

Good afternoon ladies!

I have to share my good news. Harrison got on the baseball team we all wanted!!!!!:banana:I'm so excited. The team has 4 boys on it from my son's school and 2 specifically from his class last year. They are 2 league levels above where we have been playing, so I think it'll be a good fit for him.
There is, of course, a glitch. I just found out that our old coach's son will be on the team also, but only for the fall. I will bite my tongue and smile and just wait until the spring when they will go away (at least, I hope they will). Of course, his son is a great player, and a good kid. In fact, he's a catcher and my son loves to pitch to him. So, it's good for my son and the team. I'm just glad the dad will just be a dad and not a coach.

Jeanne: So great to hear from you! I'm glad you had so much fun on the cruise. I love cruising sooooo much. I am impressed with only a pound or 2 of gain. Not bad at all. I gained 10 on my honeymoon cruise, but I needed it.
Wow, an Emmy! What for? Sorry, just being nosy! ;)It must be the best year ever in your household! Congrats to her. Are you ready for the next wedding? Will this one be a big, greek wedding also?

Vicky: Good for you for going to therapy to work on this! Sometimes, we need to get out of our own head and see it from another point of view. I haven't been in therapy since I was a teenager and that was with the whole family, but I can imagine it would be very cleansing and helpful in this situation!
I know the mileage will get there for you. I just hope you can get your speed where you want it to be. Just don't hurt yourself more! Good idea to lay off some of your activities for awhile! I'm joining you in that, but don't have pain as an excuse, just laziness! :lmao:

Debra: Congrats to you and DOOD on his promotion! I agree with Vicky that you need to get a house big enough for all of us. I'm sure we could take some time off for you! :rotfl: Okay, back to reality. YOU have a month to go, I don't! ;)
Oh, the running in St. Louis thing. I am an overly precautious female, with an insanely overprotective hubby. We are staying downtown on the river and he will freak out about the neighborhood. But, there is a beautiful fitness center in the hotel with a treadmill calling my name. Not the same, but it'll do.
Your parade story is one I know well. We used to own a 1957 Thunderbird and were invited to be in the Kansas City St. Pattys Day parade one year, which is HUGE! There were at least 20 or 30 of these Tbirds in the parade at the start. I think 10 finished. Overheating left and right. We made it through, but barely. You can imagine an unseasonably warm March day in a sunny convertible running the heat at full blast to try to save the car. I was a sweaty mess.

Maria: I'm so glad to hear you're running again! Woohoo! And, it sounds like you're having fun with your dad. That's soooo nice. I took my dad to a minor league game yesterday and we had so much fun! Of course, it might have been the beer at 10:30 am, but who knows? I enjoyed your song. Weird Al should be scared!!!! We haven't stayed along the Katy Trail yet, but I would love to. The problem is that it's kind of gravelly and I have a road bike, but I'm willing to try.

Beth: I'm so sorry you are still having so much trouble. How did the run go? I have trouble breathing in this stuff and don't have asthma, so I can imagine. My son had childhood asthma, but hasn't had any trouble in 5 years. But, on our run yesterday, he was saying that his chest was burning and he was having trouble breathing.
I, too, have such a hard time eating right at events. At home, I can do so well, but get me out of my element, all bets are off!

AFM: Well, dinner was wonderful. I got a huge plate of vodka sauce rigatoni and ate the whole thing. Oh, and half a bottle of wine. But, at least I wasn't as bad as hubby who ate 2 loaves of bread and the whole bowl of basil, garlic and parmesean olive oil. There must have been at least a cup of olive oil in there! Needless to say, he wasn't feeling very good the next day! The baseball game was really fun. It started at 11 am, which is a nice change of pace. The air was so thick you could see it. Then, halfway through, it started drizzling and cooled everything off, but once it stopped, that air was just horrible again. Thank goodness it was only 80 degrees! My dad seemed to have a good time and my son loved it. The KC Tbones are small time and the stadium doesn't have any bad seats. You are practically sitting on the field. So, my son was learning a lot. His age level got to start stealing bases this year and then, this fall, they get to start leading off. So, he was really focused on that and the pitching aspect.

As you can tell, I'm avoiding talking about exercise! ;) I have been lazy, lazy lazy! I just don't feel like running much. I need to get my motivation back here pretty soon or all my hard work will be for naught!

Anyway, ladies, I hope you all have a wonderful weekend!
Tandy

Back to back posts for me!:cool1:
Good morning ladies. I hope everyone had a fun and productive weekend.

I kind of continued my lazy streak on Saturday, but I did get out Sunday and this morning to run. I have lifting later and zumba tonight, so I'll make up for my week.

My weight is up a little bit, but not bad. I'm still very happy with what I weigh now. Instead of being 1.5 pounds from my goal, I'm now 3 pounds from my goal.

My eating was horrid on Saturday, but I did really well yesterday. I even started my vegetarian lifestyle. We went out to pick up dinner and I had a rice bowl with tofu and black beans. It was REALLY good because the pico had a lot of jalapenos in it! It supposedly had no animal products, except cheese.

5 days until the german comes and I have lots of work to do! :)
Have a great day everyone!
Tandy

Good morning lean ladies! Hope everyone had a fantastic weekend!

Jeanne - Congrats to DD on her Emmy win! That's huge!! And that IS a good deal for the photos and you're right that we're use to the ASI prices. And most of the time, I struggle to find a good race picture. I usually work on my posts in Outlook or Word because of the autosave feature. I've lost a posts a couple of times when IE times out - not fun :( Good luck with the upcoming wedding! Keep us posted so we can join in the fun too!

Tandy - That's great news about Harrison's baseball team! I'm glad to hear that the coach's son is a good kid, in spite of his dad. Does his dad make it to a lot of his games or is he usually busy with coaching his team? I'll join you in the "gained some weight but am returning to healthy eating" club. Mine is due to stress eating. Btw, the rice bowl sounds yummy! I love tofu!

I like how you said that therapy will be cleansing. I'm kind of looking forward it to that part of it. I brought some tissue just in case but I'm sure he's already got some in his office. I'm really hoping it will be a good fit so I don't have to spend more time looking for another therapist if it doesn't work out. So far, he's had me write up a mini biography of myself. Something I thought that would be an hour at tops but I ended up spending a few hours on it so I guess I had a lot to say

AFM - I did my 10 miler on yesterday and even though the humidity broke, it was still incredibly hot. The course had very little shade even half of it went through a park. I saw a few casualties being tended to by the side of the road and it spooked me a little. I was drinking at all the water stops but stuck with my run/walk intervals because I didn't know what the signs or symptoms of heat stroke or dehydration were like. I did finish in 1:38:47 which is a couple of minutes slower than I wanted but I'm happy with that considering the temperature, my back, ankle and all the relationship stuff I've been dealing with lately. I did a longer race report here if anyone's interested. I'll get the link to the pics I posted on FB later tonight.

Have a great day everyone! :wave2:

Just so you guys know I haven't forgotten you...craziness as usual. DH's family...not good for my health, yet again...I am really hoping to have time to do a post tomorrow to catch up with everyone -- know I am thinking about you and counting on you to help me get my life back next week!

Maria :upsidedow

Good Morning Lean Ladies.

Vicky: WTG on the 10 miler! You ran smart.....the heat can really do a trick on you. I ran the Toronto marathon in 2007, and saw many people down due to unexpected heat......one runner actually died! I say, to heck with PR's in hot weather....better to get it done smart!

Maria: My life is taking over too.....know that we are thinking of you too!

AFM: Well, the breathing issue has continued.....I did see the doctor on Friday with a slew of medicine to take home. I felt better Sat, but than began to feel worse on Sunday. I haven't run since Friday.....just a little scared to, since Friday's run almost killed me! I am on antibiotics for bronchitis, and hoping to run later today......if I feel better.

Eating has been ok, but could be much better! It's hard to watch all the time, especially in the summer. Trying hard to stick to veggies and fruits!

Beth

Hey Leanies!

I'm going to post now whether I have time to or not -- forgive me if I end up being briefer than I would like.

I have a ton of jumbled thoughts about dh's family and the endless visits to their various "camps"...but I won't go in to detail. Just know they are not good for my health, and I will be glad when I see the last of them for July, which hopefully will be this weekend.

It turns out my dad's visit (as usual) isn't really all that great, either. I have to totally rearrange the basement (where my dad is staying) to work out, and it's a pain. Plus, I end up eating more and more richly than I should because we feed him better than we do ourselves :rotfl: He will be going home on Sunday, so it's a mixed blessing. I will miss him terribly, but I do want my life back.

I did run 10M on Friday, but it wasn't pretty -- still too warm and the last half mile was really tough, but I did it! I also did 4M on Saturday, and that's the last time I ran. I was able to get in 40 minutes of office laps this morning, so that's something. I'll be getting to work earlier tomorrow, so hopefully I can squeeze out a good hour and a half. Hey, it's probably my only exercise for the day, so I'm going to go for it. I'm also getting up Thursday morning and getting on the TM for even a few miles before we take my dad to L. L. Bean in Maine. I'm only working today and Wednesday this week, so the other days require me to make more effort to get the workouts in...

Yesterday I had planned to do 10M, but then dh asked me to take him to work and take ds to get his braces on (which he originally was going to handle), so I gave up on working out (my window was totally gone) and ran everyone around. On the bright side I did have an hour to sit in the waiting room at the orthodontist and read, but that really wasn't helping with the lean factor. After I ran ds home, I took my dad to Home Depot to get blinds cut for ds's bedroom and my 2nd floor landing. My dad will install them today. By the time I got home, I grabbed a lunch which wasn't the best (basically my usual minus the vegetables and with my morning/afternoon snacks all at the same time), and then I had to go pick up dh at work. I had salmon, grilled veggies and brown rice for dinner, which would have been great if I hadn't followed it up with a ton of flavored tootsie rolls, not to mention a mint Aero bar before bed :rolleyes1

I brought my breakfast to work this morning. I have my usual yogurt, peach, and vitamuffin, so I'm off to a good start. My lunch is the usual, and then tonight we are having dinner at Chili's with some friends of my dad who recently moved to Boston. I'm not sure how to get out of this without eating too much -- I know I will eat some of the chips they bring to the table. I do know to skip the lava cake which isn't that good, anyway. I'll have to look at their menu on Dottie's Weight Loss Zone to see if I can find something that is remotely Points friendly...

Beth -- Bronchitis is nothing to mess around with, Miss Nurse! ;) I really hope you feel better, and have a run without any breathing issues. Keep eating those fruits and veggies, they will fill you up!

Vicky -- I think you ran a smart race, considering the heat. And I also think therapy will help you sort out everything that's going on. Sometimes it's really helpful to have someone objective to speak to, who can help you organize your thoughts and work through things. I think you will emerge even stronger, and with a greater sense of what you need and deserve in a relationship and all areas of your life. :thumbsup2

Tandy -- Fantastic news about Harrison! I know he will enjoy his new team, and you will enjoy not having to deal with the scary dad so much. I totally understand the lazy feeling. I certainly seem to have it. I am more than ready for some cooler weather, and getting nice, early starts to my runs. Are you ready for the German? (I find myself singsonging that to the tune of "Are you ready for some Football?!"). That is a seriously long-term guest. I hope you really enjoy his company. :goodvibes

Jeanne -- Wowza! An Emmy! :woohoo: And dare I guess -- a Daytime Emmy?! Do tell, what category did your amazing DD win in? I am beyond impressed! And I can't believe the next wedding is almost upon you! These are coming fast and furious! I think I would need to rest between now and Christmas just to face the holidays -- but just think about all those new spouses you will be able to enjoy! I'm with you, game on. I want to see the 170s by the end of summer, so I have to get moving and focus, focus, focus! :cheer2: We can do it!

Debra -- I am so glad DOOD received his promotion! I know you guys have been working on this for what seems like forever, and I'm so happy for you both! :dance3: And what a bonus, now you get to do your research! I think that is clearly only fair! ::yes:: And I really encourage you to try cooking the popcorn on the stove in olive oil, then add a little salt. It tastes so much better than the microwave version, I think you'd really like it! popcorn:: And what strength you have with the cookies -- my guys would just have to do without, 'cause I don't have that kind of will power! :rotfl2:

Ok, I really have to get to the work...it piles up when you only come in 2 days a week :rolleyes1

Maria :upsidedow

Hi Everyone.

Just wanted to pop in quickly to let you know I am alive. I was on vacation for a bit. Now getting back into our summer routine. I feel like I am starting from square one with both eating and running. I guess I'm in need of a whole truck load of inspiration too.

Hope you are all well. I'll try to post more soon.

Cindy

Good afternoon ladies! I hope everyone is staying cool out there.

Cindy: Good to hear from you! :) You are in the right place for inspiration. It's okay to start over. It's better than never starting, right? It sounds like you've been too busy to be healthy, which we have all felt many times.

Maria: I understand that feeling when you're life gets totally rearranged. It's hard to stick to the workouts, but it sounds like you are still doing great! Don't worry and enjoy the last of your dad's visit.

Braces, huh? What an interesting new time for him? How's he adjusting?

Yes, I do get along with "The German". But, only for a couple of weeks, so by the time he leaves, I'll be completely ready for him to go. He only comes once every 3-5 years and stays about a month, so I can't complain. We've been over to Germany twice and stayed for a month each time, so it's all fair. The issues are that he is a smoker and so is my husband. So, they will sit outside on the patio all day and night smoking and talking politics and religion. NOT somewhere I want to be! :laughing:Plus, he is totally spoiled and doesn't even know how to do his own laundry at 37! Can you imagine? So, I will teach him, again, but not do it for him!

Beth: I am SOOOO sorry to hear that it's bronchitis. That hurts. No wonder you were having trouble. I used to get bronchitis and pneumonia all the time, so I can completely sympathize with you.

Vicky: Great job on your 10 miler! :thumbsup2 How are you feeling? Are the legs still sore? It sounds like a scary experience with your little accident and the heat. I'm glad you made it through!
Yes, the bad coach will be at every game and practice. He is totally devoted to his son, which is the one redeeming quality he has. My husband finally clued me in as to why he went off on me the way he does. He doesn't believe women are equal or worthy in any way. I was supposed to manage the team and do his bidding, but not speak! Well, he picked the wrong girl to mess with, let me tell you! ;)
How was your therapy session, or have you been yet? Did you need those tissues? ;)

AFM: Well, it's our next to the last baseball game tonight. It's supposed to be our last, but we had another rainout. So, now they're going to schedule the makeup after the playoffs, which makes no sense to me. Thank goodness we play at 8:30 tonight, because there are heat index warnings here. Plus, my hubby is a mailman, so he's in this heat all day and then has to help coach the team! I'm going to take him to some refrigerated restaurant tonight before the game, which should help.

Exercise has been great. I am running, running with my son and walking a little for the dog's benefit every day. Plus, my son and I are lifting every other day. He finally added weight this week and feels like he's Superman or something. He's only been lifting a couple of weeks and I'm already seeing pecs and biceps. It's so cool!

Hope you all have a wonderful day.
Tandy

Happy Friday lean ladies!

Tandy - No I didn't cry last week. It actually helped to have the therapist there to mediate because he kept things from getting too emotional. Lately everything else seems to make me cry so I think I'm keeping the tissue companies in business  What is it with guys who can't deal with women who are equal or above them? WTG with the running and lifting! I love that your son's involved as well! How did the baseball game go last night?

Cindy - Welcome back! That's what we're here for! Anyway, I'd say small steps when you're starting up again. Do you have any upcoming races? I forgot to ask if you'll be going in January.

Maria - When I did WW, I used Dottie's site all the time! How did you do at Chillis? Lately, when going out to eat, I try to stick with a salad but... for some reason, restaurants feel the need to add in all these fattening ingredients - taco chip slices, cheese, fried noodles, peanuts. It reminded me a little of granola bars and how no one liked to eat them until they were smothered in chocolate and had nuts and marshmallows. Sorry to hear you missed the 2nd 10 miler. Sounds like you're super busy though, did you have a chance to make it up?

Beth - pixiedust: Hope you're feeling better! Make sure you get your rest young lady! You don't want to get in a run only to exhaust yourself. I remember reading about the Toronto marathon that year - scary stuff. Then there were other races like Chicago which were waaay to hot as well.

AFM - My back seems to be better so I was able to do some deadlifting again yesterday. It felt really good to increase the intensity of my workouts again! I haven't had a chance to weigh myself but I don't think I'm going to reach my goal of 125 by the end of the month. My eating has really improved over the last week and a half but at the last weigh-in, I think I had 7+ pounds still to lose.

I have a 21K run on my training schedule this weekend and I'm going to try and get that done tomorrow. I'll probably do it with 10/1 run walk intervals but am going to try and get out early so that I can beat the heat. I also found a running group at work - the group goes out Tuesday night so I'm going to have to try and move some things around to make it fit. I also found someone else to go running with ... the thing is, it would be during lunch and he's fast ... like 21:00 5K fast. So that will definitely be interesting because my fastest 5K is 27:22. I said he's going to have to give me the route beforehand in case I get lost.

I've got training Monday and then tissues on Tuesday

Have a great weekend everyone! :wave2:

Good evening ladies. Hope you are all doing well.

Vicky: :banana:to your back feeling better! I'm so glad to hear that. How did it feel a day after the deadlifting? How's the running? Did you get that 21K in? Yikes. That's a long run. I guess it equals out to close to a half, right?

I'm glad to hear you got something out of going to the therapist. Is your friend going with you, or is it just you?

You may not make your goal, but if you're eating has improved, you're doing great. The two important things are what we eat and what we do physically. If we lose weight, that's just a bonus! :thumbsup2

AFM: Hubby is on his way to the airport to pick up the german! The house is spotless and there's barbecue in the crockpot. I can do no more!:lmao: It's funny, but the german loves bbq (we do live in KC), mac and cheese, and Doritos! So, I will have the bbq and the mac and cheese for his first meal. We are leaving at 6 am tomorrow for St. Louis. We get to watch the Cardinals play the Phillies tomorrow and the LA Dodgers on Monday. I hope the german is happy (he also loves American baseball).

I managed to run everyday this week. I have a friend that I've been walking with lately that I've talked into interval running. She was fine until she suggested we sprint for the last 1/4 mile before the end of our run. She was at least 4 blocks behind me! At least the dogs kept up with me! Eating has been hit and miss. I'm holding steady at my weight, but still would like to lose 3 more pounds to reach my goal. Of course, who really cares about 3 pounds, right? It's just that it is soooo close and I can really see it. I just can't get there.

I hope everyone is having a great weekend.
Tandy

Hi leanies! I thought I'd sneak in a post tonight before heading off to bed. I think tomorrow might be a busy day at work ... If not, I'll be back ;)

Tandy - Is DH having fun with the German? How are you holding up amongst all the excitment ;) WTG on the runs this week! I say go for the last 3 lbs and hit your goal! Ditch the sugar and really eat clean this week and you'll be at your goal weight in no time at all!

So no, it's just me and the therapist. Personally, I'm really disappointed that he's not coming along. I feel like I never really got a chance to change or to try and fix whatever was wrong (if that was possible). Maybe that's my karma for something that I never gave someone else a chance for. Will keep you posted on what happens on Tuesday. Got in the 21K and a 10K ... although the 10K was somewhat of an accident

AFM - So some good news and bad news this weekend... The bad news was that I started out really late on my 21K Saturday morning. Ok, I'm not a morning person so being up, dressed, fueled, stretched and out the door by 9:45AM is good for me. Unfortunately, the weather was hot, hot, hot and I only made it to the 10K mark. There was little to no shade on the route and I decided to call it there. I wasn't sure I could make it home though - it was about 2.5-3 miles and I was out of water, blocs and energy. Naturally, no one was home so I had to call you know who to pick me up  He didn't really seem to mind and I thought it was nice that he rushed over but it was still a call I didn't want to have to make. I did get out at 9AM this morning and ran the 21K - it wasn't my best run ever but I'll take it!

Well, the good news is that I did get weigh-in on Friday and there must have been a fluke either this week or last week but the scale said I lost 4.6 lbs. Mind you I was up 2.7 lbs the previous week... But it's always a bit of a boost to see a big number. That means I'm only 2.5 lbs away from my July 27th goal. I'm going to give myself until July 31 though because I'm thinking that 2.5 lb is a pretty big number for me right now.

So, that puts me down 14.3 lbs since the 1/2 marathon in January! :cool1: Which means my Fuel Belt no longer fits. That's good because for long runs in the summer, I definitely need more fluid. So I was thinking of buying a new one anyway. The bad news is that I found out the belt doesn't fit the hard way. It shifted all the way up to my waist during my run today and pulled the back of my shirt up. Since it bounces, I was left with a 3 inch long chaffing mark on my lower back. Of course, I initially though the burning sensation was back pain but was a little relieved to learn it was just chaffing

Anyway, I've got training tomorrow evening and I'm going to ask my PT to go lighter on the lifting. I'm going out running for the first time with the guy at work on Tuesday at noon so I don't want be too tired.

Have a great night everyone! :wave2:

Debra - Very belated congratulations to DOOD on his promotion. I know it's been a long time coming. I know it adds a whole new level of stress, but it relieves a bit along the way. And :woohoo: that you get to do your research trip next summer!

Beth - How's the asthma doing? Are the meds helping at all? This weather is taking its toll on all of us, I'm afraid. Take it easy and let your body recover.

Cindy - Thanks for popping in. I think everyone is having a hard time staying focused this summer.

Maria - I think you're doing a terrific job of balancing everything - family, eating out, working, and working out. I feel like I'm burning calories just reading about it! :rotfl: I know it's not going exactly the way you'd like, but you seem to be making acceptable substitutions whenever and wherever you can, and that's a huge accomplishment. Be proud of yourself! :thumbsup2

Tandy - You're a machine as well. And what is it about those last 3 pounds that are so darn hard?

Vicky - What a weekend! That's a lot of miles. Good decision on calling it quits on Saturday, even if you did have to make a call that you'd rather not have made. I had to laugh about the belt chafing - ouch! But at least you weren't injured.

As for me, I'm going to whine a little more. I saw the chiro this morning, again. Last week I really felt like there was a lot of improvement, and I was going to ask him this morning if I could try running a couple of miles. But I knew before I went today that I was hurting too much to try. He told me that we're going to reevaluate on Thursday, and if it still hurts when I put weight on it (well, duh, that IS why I'm coming to you), then he's going to send me to an ortho. He thinks the bursa is inflamed and that's why we're not seeing any improvement. I suppose that's good news, since it's a new step, but I cried when I left, since I want to be running and all I see is more time that I'm not running. There are basically 3 months until MCM. My group did 14 miles on Saturday. I did 0. This was going to be my kick*** marathon. Now I'm going to have to bust my **** to finish within the time limit, if I even get to start the thing at all. So yeah, I really, really want to cry right now. But if I do, my coworkers will tell me that I shouldn't be running at my age, that my body is trying to tell me something... you all know the drill.

Thanks for letting me vent, once again. Maybe one day I'll be healthy again. Or maybe my coworkers are right, and I should just give up?

Jackie

Jackie: I am sorry to hear that you are still having pain. I think it's a good thing to see an ortho doc to see what is going on. The longer you wait, the longer till you can run again! I do hope that the resolution to this is right around the corner!

AFM: I have had a bad run of it lately. The bronchitis really had me laid out. I just couldn't breathe right when I was running....and I am still coughing alot of junk up. It hasn't been pretty. I only managed about 15 miles last week! Ugh..... I did get(2) 5 milers in yesterday and today. I didn't feel great, sweating like a pig!, but they got done.

I am getting myself to Vegas tomorrow though! Unexpected work trip for DH, and my friend is watching my kids til Sunday! I will enjoy myself immensily, I am sure! I plan on running the TM while I am gone.....it's 115 degrees in Vegas right now.....way to hot for me! I plan on running every day though! Yeah, yeah, it's a DRY heat!!!! :rotfl2:

Good Morning, Lovely Lean Ones!

Wow, I can't believe it's been a week since I last posted. I am going to have to work on that -- I'm coaching on the BL thread starting Friday so that will keep me hopping, but as soon as I finish my week I will be here so often, you will get sick of me!

So to recap -- Tues: dinner at Chili's went well. I ate one (count it!) chip and had Margherita grilled chicken, which was basically a chicken breast on some rice and beans. Wed: More office laps, eating pretty well, still too many treats at home. Thurs: Took dad to L.L. Bean flagship store in Maine. I had hummus, tomatoes and cucumbers for lunch. Then I had a ton of flavored tootsie rolls and a mint aero bar after dinner :rolleyes1 Fri: took my dad to Patriot's Place -- Patriots Hall of Fame (yes, the football team) and had lunch at Red Robin. This was the first time I've eaten there, probably should be the last. Sat: hung out in the backyard with my dad, ate off the grill but also had Dunkin Donuts and treats from the local Italian bakery. Sun: Sent dad back to Missouri, did 10M, ate really well and felt good. Mon: did 4M and ate really well. Eyes still having a ton of discharge, soreness, and even burning.

I'm officially giving up on my eyes fixing themselves after the week of medicine. I see the opthamologist tomorrow. Best case scenario will probably be another week w/out the contacts. I'm considering trying to run and tucking my glasses into a hairband. I'm that desperate to be moving...

I wanted to run this AM, but I couldn't get out of bed until 6:30, and even that wasn't easy. I was asleep by 9 last night, I think this heat is really taking it out of me.

Jackie -- My dh has a book on his dresser. I don't remember the exact title, but it's something like "How to Run Until You Are 100" -- I think that says it all. I am so sorry your body is not cooperating  I am also glad you are getting good medical attention. You will figure out how to get better, I have every confidence! And as for the race, I really hope you can be in top form. If not, you will still have a great time (perhaps in more ways than 1?!), and you will learn some things that will make the next race even better. I have faith! :goodvibes

Vicky -- Congrats on the need for the new fuel belt! You are doing fantastic! I know you weren't happy making that call -- I'm so proud you got up the next day and cranked out the 21K! That is determination! :cheer2:

Tandy -- I hope you had a great time in St. Louis watching the Cards! I love that the German's favorite meal is barbeque and mac and cheese -- that seems so American to me! :rotfl: I have heard that Laclede's Landing is not really very kid-friendly anymore -- that's a shame. Did you make it to the zoo? I don't know if it was on your list, but I think it's probably the best attratction in St. Louis.

Cindy -- Did you do anything exciting or fun for your vacation? Go anywhere special? We want details! :flower3:

Beth -- How are you feeling? I really hope you are breathing better and the bronchitis is clearing up! Vegas?! Wow! Have a fantastic time! Viva Las Vegas! :woohoo:

Jeanne -- Don't keep us in suspense, tell us more about that Emmy! :listen:

Debra -- We need to know what you think about all the summer blockbusters! popcorn::

I think we lost Manda somewhere along the way...hopefully she'll check in!

I have to do some more of that pesky work. Everyone have a great day!

Maria :upsidedow

Hi ladies. I'm officially back from St Louis, although I'm not telling anyone but you guys! ;) I need a break.

The guys are all watching a stupid Beavis and Butthead movie (yes, the German's favorite) so I have a little while to post. We had a great time on the trip. The Cardinals came from 4 points behind in the first game against the Dodgers. They won and that win put them into first place. The place was hopping that night! Then, we watched them yesterday against the Phillies. They won and scored 4 homeruns in one inning. I've never seen that live before, so it was wonderful. The stadium is sooo beautiful. I loved that we sat in the stadium looking at the St. Louis downtown skyline with the arch right there. Not quite as cool as Wrigley Stadium, but close! The hotel was pretty nice also. It was halfway between the arch and the stadium. We never had to walk more than 3 blocks to get anywhere.

Maria: I really wanted to go to the zoo, but I was the only one. So, we didn't go. We just stayed downtown the whole time. But, it's so close, we'll go back soon I'm sure!
It stinks that your eyes aren't better, but I'm glad you're going to the doctor. I hope you can get this figured out!
Sounds like you're already back on track now that Dad's gone. You are doing so great!:thumbsup2

Beth: Oh, you poor thing! I hope Vegas makes you feel better! Maybe you'll win a lot of money, which should definately help!:thumbsup2

Jackie: You can vent here anytime! I wish you were up and running already, but I'm glad you are listening to your pain. I just hate it when I'm going to the doctor and they tell me what to do and it doesn't work! I once had to go 6 months without running due to achilles tendonitis! Hated every day, minute and second of it! But, eventually it healed and I'm running better today because of it! This marathon may not live up to your earlier expectations, but you'll eventually find an answer and have a good marathon down the road!

Vicky: I'm sorry to hear that your friend isn't going to therapy with you. But, I'm glad you are doing it on your own. I hope you can find some kind of answer for your share of this relationship. How did it go today?

I'm so proud of you for turning a cruddy run into a good day and just making the long run the next day! Way to go! :yay:

Congrats on your weight loss! :thumbsup2 How wonderful! I'm trying to figure out a way I can buy your old belt.;) I'm about 10 or 12 pounds heavier than you, so it would probably fit me!

AFM: I am afraid to get on the scale. We had free happy hour at our hotel and vodka tonics are not low cal. I ate great, but just think the drinks are going to kill me. But, I will get on the scale in the morning and see.

I didn't run today, but ran on the TM at the hotel yesterday. I was so bored that I ran 4 miles in 28 minutes! I thought I was going to die and I'm sure the old man behind me was getting worried with my breathing! I don't know how people actually run that fast! It hurt, but now I can say that I once ran 7 minute miles. :laughing:I really need to run some distance tomorrow and lift.

The best news of all is that my husband and I have SERIOUSLY been talking about me getting breast reduction. He even called the insurance company to find out what they cover! :woohoo: I have been in sooooooo much pain this year that I am ready for it. It probably won't happen for another year, but I think we're going for it! Hubby was concerned that I couldn't handle the scars! HA! That is the least of my worries. I want to be able to run. It is so difficult right now unless I strap myself down. So, keep your fingers crossed!

Have a wonderful evening ladies.
Tandy

Hey leanies! Where did July go? I was going to complain about the hot weather but seeing how it's already the 21st...

Tandy - The Fuel Belt is all your's :) Holy cow you're fast! 7:00 m/m on the TM is something like 8.6? I think the fastest I've ever gone was 8.0 but that was only for interval training so it was really like a 1/4 mile. I can't imagine going like that for 4 miles! WTG!! You can go running with the guy I'm running with at work. I think he's about that fast or faster - you speedy runners! I'm jealous!

Maria - Sorry to hear about the continuing problems with the eyes. Any luck with the opthamologist appointment? WTG on the 10 and 4 milers!! Sounds like you're getting back on track again! When is your dad's next visit? Which bakery did you go to? I wanted to go to two bakeries when we were in Boston last month - I think one was called Maria's Pastery Shop and the other was called Modern Pastery. I love cannoli!

Beth - Sorry to hear about the bronchitis :( Make sure you're taking it easy on the exercise, you're still recovering. I think heat is heat regardless of whether it's humid or dry. So keep hydrated! Have fun in Vegas and win lots of money!!

Jackie - Unless you're 100-years-old, no one should be telling you that you can't or shouldn't be running. Even then, I would never tell someone they can't run. I believe there is a 99-year-old man who runs either the 5K or 1/2 in Toronto every year. And I think Jeff posted about a lady who's 90+ who runs Honolulu every year. So no. You can't quit! Sorry ;) Make sure you're keeping active with other exercises that your body can handle - try doing stuff like jumping rope, jumping jacks, lunges, squats, dynamic planks ... if you have a gym - chest presses, kettlebell swings etc. It won't replace the running but will keep you huffing and puffing a little so you don't lose all your endurance. Keep your chin up because this will get fixed and ignore your coworkers who say you can't.

AFM - I went running with the guy at lunch. I don't know if it was the speed or the blazing hot sun but I couldn't keep up. Thank goodness for traffic lights but even those weren't enough. And isn't there suppose to be a breeze off the lake?? There were times that my Garmin was reading a 7:30-8:00 m/m which is faster than I would run... ever. Not sure if that was because of the downtown buildings or we really were going that fast. I probably would have been better with a 9:00-9:30 m/m pace but maybe I just need to be pushed. I have a 3 visit pass to the gym downstairs so I'll go out with him a couple more times and maybe it will get easier. They were willing to give me a "runner's" deal on membership at the gym which means I'd get access to the showers, stretching room and showers only.

Tonight I'm going out for a 20 minute run with the group at the running store near my house. Okay, I'm really going for the free running hat :) But if it's a good group, I might try running with them next Wednesday. I've got training tomorrow and will try to get out for a quick 2 miler tomorrow morning.

Take care everyone :wave2:

Good Afternoon, Leanies!

This Morning:
When I got home yesterday I didn't feel tired and it wasn't too hot -- so I got on the TM and ran 4M! I was really proud of me, as exercise after work is a real challenge. This morning I got up and ran 6M. Partly because I wanted to, and partly because I'm afraid I'm about to have another week w/out running. I'll let you know the results after my appt. this afternoon. Oddly enough, my eyes feel better today...but I'm still keeping the appt., I'm pretty sure I at least need a medical opinion if not intervention.

Now:
Thank you so much for all the well wishes about my eyes! I have a verdict -- I have two issues going on. One is I have some bacteria on my eyelashes. Not an infection, but I have to use a special wash for the eyelids until all my discharge clears up. The second is my eyes are really dry because my contacts are antiquated.

The good news is I have advice about how to work on the bacteria and the dryness, and it's ok to insert my contacts for my runs every day! I am so relieved!

Last year dh and I both needed glasses, so he found this opthamologist where we could have a free exam and our insurance pays for a years worth of contacts, or a new pair of glasses. He got both, we just paid for the contacts. I was trying to be frugal, and just ordered my contacts from the 1-800 folks. Turns out the version I'm wearing has been replaced by something that lets more oxygen in the eye. So, now I need a new contacts fitting, and my year isn't up until October -- so I could either suck it up and only wear my contacts when I work out and put drops in 4 times a day, or we can pay for the exam. I think I'm just going to pay for it, and enough contacts to get me through until I can do the free year re-order. Wearing glasses all day is not practical for me, and I've learned my lesson about being frugal -- not with my eyes!

I'm also supposed to lay down for 10 minutes morning and night with a warm compress on my eyes. Really? That sounds like a reward rather than a treatment! I was psyched and will probably continue that longer than I need to, just 'cause it sounds so darn relaxing!

I am going to be very happy to finally have my eye issues end -- and I'm so glad I finally went back and saw an opthamologist instead of the family care practitioner. This wasn't going to "fix itself" without help, and I don't want to spend the next 3 months miserable!

Vicky -- My dad won't be back until Christmas, he usually comes twice a year. That interferes with my Half training, but it's a little easier because I'm tapering for one week. The bakery we go to is Toretta's, it's local in my part of Boston. The two you mention are in the North End and delicious! My dh likes to say I can't find the post office in my neighborhood (true), but I can find Maria's Pastry in the North End (also true!). I really hope you like the running group -- it is awesome to find new people to hang out with, and especially those who you can run with! :thumbsup2

Tandy -- I don't think I could run 7min/Miles if my life depended on it! :worship: You are speedy! Your post reminded me of when we were yuppies and we would go to the Adam's Mark for happy hour. That was long ago and far away in St. Louis, but I remember it fondly. :goodvibes My colleague had the breast reduction surgery -- She was an "H" I believe -- anyway, it's been 3 or 4 years, and she says it's the best thing she ever did. She is so happy and carries herself with such confidence. She went down to a "D", and it seems to suit her very well.

I am now debating a ride on the exercise bike. I have time and I'd like to, but it's kind of hot in the basement. I just seem to have more will to exercise this week -- I think not doing much for the last week left me feeling a little down, and now I have a burst of energy. I am definitely running tomorrow, I'll probably do 4 or 6M of intervals.

My dh and ds are going to Cirque du Soleil tonight. We get 2 free tickets because of dh's job, and I've been 4 times, so I'm kind of saturated. DS still really enjoys it, so they can go together. That gives me an evening to read!

Maria :upsidedow

Good morning lovely ladies!

I am having a very nice time with "The German"! He is a super friendly, very interesting person. So far, he has not lifted one finger though! ;) I knew he wouldn't, so it's not a big surprise. We are all going shopping today, so I hope to get out of it with some savings left intact! Plus, we'll be gone so long, hubby will have to feed me and I won't have to cook! :thumbsup2

Maria: I'm sorry about the eyes! I agree with you though. I would pay for the new ones. No reason to prolong the pain!

:banana:to your workouts! You are such a motivation to the rest of us! You just keep going no matter what.

I've never been to Cirque. They look interesting, but I'm just too cheap to pay for them!

I'm glad to hear your coworker is happy with her results. I'm an F right now, but was a G last year. I'd like to be a C if it's possible. My biggest issue is that I'm in a 30F which means I don't have enough of a frame to support all this mass! ;)

Vicky: So, was the hat cute? ;) How was the new running group? Your run with the guy sounds really hard. I have never run with another person because I just want to go at my own pace. Some days, that pace is a 7 min. mile (Okay, only once, but it still counts), and some days, that pace is a 9 or 10 min. mile.

Thanks again for the belt. I'm excited. I've been wanting to try one out and see if I can wear one, but it's hard to shell out full price for something that may not work. I am a very curvy girl (big hips) and am afraid that a belt will not stay put. But, I'm hoping it will.

AFM: I got a good 5 miler in yesterday. I hope to get 3 or 4 in today, but who knows? I really, really, really need to go to zumba tonight. They aren't having another class for the month of July and I will have major withdrawal! But, that means we'll have to get shopping done early, so we'll see.

I hope everyone has a wonderful day!
Tandy
