I was just informed by my boss that I have to work Christmas.:sad2:. This SUCKS and my family is MAD. I was told that since I had Thanksgiving off(my normal day off any way) that it's not fair to the other office personal.:sad1:. Well hopefully I hit the Powerball:cool1:by then. Anyone else working?

My sister is working. She's a WDW castmember. There will be a lot of them working.

Not working on Christmas, but I did work Thanksgiving and am schedueled to work on New Years Day, no big deal with Thanksgiving and NYD as I don't have to be in till 7pm and only live about 10min from work.

This year my boss had a hard time covering Christmas eve, well for my 7pm shift anyway. I came close to having to work it instead of working NYD, but lucked out. I'm thinking that I may have to work Christmas eve next year.

Sorry to hear you have to work.
Do you have small children? What time do you have to be in on Christmas?

Karen :)

I'll be working Christmas Eve, 3:30-midnight. I'm off Christmas Day, but DFiance has to work 3:30-midnight, so I'll probably spend Christmas night on the couch, eating leftovers, and watching Christmas movies by myself.

What do you do that your "office" is open on Christmas?

Karen,
No, both my Dkids are older 17 & 20 but those are the only 2 days a year that I ask off. I have been with the same company for 2 years and have NEVER asked for a day off and NEVER called off sick:sick:

When I was working my way through college I worked for a company that shipped dead people. We were opened every second of the year since people don't not die on holidays.

I was a student and needed the money and we got 2.5x pay for working the holidays so I volunteered to work every one. I don't work them anymore though.

Luckily I'm off this year, but this will be the last year. I was a cast member too last Christmas and had to work the overnight shift from 10PM Xmas eve - 9am Xmas day.. and basically slept all of Xmas day. The guests were GREAT but I wasted the whole holiday.

Sorry OP, that stinks. Makes me so glad my store is closed on national holidays.

DH works all holidays and I'm scheduled for them too....a little extra pay and we just have our celebration another time. The actual day we party isn't all that important to us. Lots of businesses run 24/7/365 and someone has to work them right? :D

Come to think of it DD and her partner usually work the holiday shifts at their jobs too. All in the family I guess. LOL

I'm working xmas day and new year's day this year. Just the way my schedule lands. I dispatch for the fire dept, so we're here 24/7. I don't mind because I'm used to it, and although I have little kids, they are at their dad's this year. Even years that I do have them they understand that mommy has a deal with Santa, and we make xmas happen around our schedule. This year Santa is coming the night of Dec 22 as they go to their dad's on the 23rd.

Do you get overtime pay? DH has to work Christmas Day, and he worked Thanksgiving Day, and I think he's working New Year's Day, too, but since he gets over $50 an hour for working holidays (he's an RN), it's fine by me! Kids are all grown (youngest is 19) and we'll do our Christmas stuff on Christmas Eve. I hope you get extra pay for working the holiday and if so, concentrate on how you'll spend it and then just do your Christmas stuff either on Christmas Eve or after you get home on Christmas Day. And I hope you don't have to work next year! Merry Christmas!

I'd start taking some other days off!

Whether you use other vacation days or not doesn't really have anything to do with whether you get the holiday.

Bummer that you have to work though. Do you get extra pay?

My dad is. :( It's something that just happens when you're in the medical field!

I will be working both christmas eve and christmas day at the restaurant. no, we don't get "holiday pay". our holiday pay is the chance to make more money, (hopefully people will be in the "Christmas mood" and tip a little extra)
my family will be "celebrating" christmas the weekend before.
i will tape the Disney parade,(which is actually taped earlier too) and hubby and I will watch it later. if he's not still awake when I get home, we'll watch it the next morning.
boy, what I would give to be at WDW now, at the Osbourne lights!!!! SPectacular!!!

That does stink, I'm sorry. :(

I've never worked anywhere that was open on holidays. First job was in the mall food court, then I worked as a teller at a bank.
DH works for the government so he's off, too.

I guess *technically* my job now is to be a SAHM and I'm definitely not "off" on Christmas. :)

NO extra pay:mad:straight pay. I don't know how to post it so if you search my boards under Need Help in PA it will explain all the crap I go through. Please read it and tell me your advice.
