I am just about senior enough at work to choose between two schedule options.
I am a flight attendant, so these aren't typical schedules...
My current schedule has me working 5 days a week, an average of 60 hours a week. (I typically don't come home at all in those 5 days.) I have two days off a week - Friday's and Saturday's.
I could soon have the option to change to a second schedule...
I would work 3 days a week, with an average of 40 hours a week. (I would be working nights only, 9pm-7am, and I would be home all day, of course, sleeping during some of that time.) I would more than likely have weekdays off (example - Monday's, Tuesday's, Wednesday's, and Thursday's).
The catch? (Other than not having traditional weekends off...) I would be making about $250 less a month.
FWIW, and I don't know if it will help YOUR decision making, but we have no kids, and my DH works nights (with every other weekend off). We really don't "need" the extra $250, but it is nice to have, but it won't burden us financially. I would also be driving to and from work (20 miles, so 40 a day... 20 minutes each way) three days a week, as opposed to once a week.)
So I guess my question is, would it be worth it TO YOU giving up $250 to be home with your DH more?
