Work Refrigerator - annoyance

Why do people take up limited refrigerator space by putting insulated lunch boxes in them? There is barely enough space in there as it is. Doesn't that defeat the purpose of an insulated lunch box? I bring my sandwich, cottage cheese and occasionally a jello or pudding, and a water. I don't see a need to put all of that in one of those insulated things THEN put it in the fridge.

I did this when I worked. I guess it is to keep everything together and just grab the bag and go. Mind you those bags are getting bigger and bigger. Mine was the size of a kids metal lunch box.

Do you put your lunch in loose? Put your name on stuff?

Insulted lunch bag or not it would stay colder in the fridge.

I have never understood that either. Our refrigerator is always full. Unfortunately most of the food in there should be thrown away. I don't even try to put anything in it. I use one of those blue ice things. It works great and I don't have to worry about anyone taking my lunch or finding room for it in the over loaded, smelly refrigerator.

Do you mean... because the insulation keeps the cold from the refrigerator OUT? I give up - I like TEENEE's idea of the blue ice to keep my cold stuff cold in my insulated bag.

It keeps everything in one place and keeps you from confusing YOURS with theirs. Why use the work refrig if you don't like what others do?

I use a small insulated cooler and I do put it in the fridge at work, but I work in retail and don't have a desk to put my cooler bag at. I only have a small locker that barely fits my purse so I can't shove the cooler bag in there too. I suppose I could use a brown lunch bag, but when I work 8 hours, I bring a lot of food and drinks with me so I do need the cooler bag to fit it all!

We have the SAME issue where I work. The insulated lunch boxes or bags are very big and they can't be manipulated. I bring my lunch in a plastic grocery bag and, while still staying the bag and keeping it together, the bag can be "shaped" and pushed around so that it conforms to the space that is available in the fridge. The insulated lunch bags actually take up a lot of space with their they way they are shaped and their rigidness. It stinks and we are thinking about implementing a policy where they cannot be used within the refrigerator.

Yes.... My theory is if it is cold outside that bag it will keep the stuff colder longer with the blue ice block thing.

Just like I use a insluted bag for my food when I shop. It will stay colder in the winter and won't defrost , then it would in summer.

There is atleast 1 that is the size of a smaller cooler. It takes up half of the top-shelf.

I just put my stuff in the available crevices. Today my cottage cheese fit in the little space below the top crisper drawer.

Its just a little annoyance and I've always wondered why people do it.

I bought the office fridge so I can put anything I want in there, LOL

The only time I put a small insulated bag inside the refrigerator was when I was still nursing and had to express at work and it would have been very awkward for all parties if I just put the bottles in there not inside the bag, LOL

I put my lunch in a thermal bag & plastic for the commute, then when I get to the office, I take the plastic bag out & put that in the fridge. That way, it's all together so I can just grab it, there's no confusion, and I didn't take up too much space.

We have a big fridge, but given the size of some of the tupperware containers and full sized bottles of soda people bring in, I don't think an insulted bag would be any bigger.

And if you saw our fridge, you would be putting loose items in there either.

At least it's just their lunch. We have people who will put groceries in there, that they have no intention of eating at work, and leave them for WEEKS.

I don't know why people hog up public spaces. I understand using the insulated bag to keep everything fresh while commuting but people can remove the items from the cooler to free up space for other people. People in my office bring in full sized items to keep in our dorm sized fridges. A half a gallon of OJ, large tuperwares, etc. Come on...we have to share this thing.

We're not even allowed to have individual coffee pots here. So the mini-fridge is a no-go.
