If your employer makes you eligible for a discount from AT&T, can you still get the discount if you get your iPhone & contract online at AT&T's website? I don't see where to put it in.

Or do I need to go into an AT&T store?

Wonder if buying the phone in the store is more expensive to begin with. No discount on the phone, just the plan.

If you are a current AT&T customer using an employer discount and just upgrading your phone, then the discount should already be in the system (as mine was). You can double check with customer service to be sure it's there.

I'm not sure how to add it online if you're new. But again, you could always call customer service to ask. I know AT&T has a lot of mix ups, but I've been correcting problems for several months (since upgrading) and I've found their phone people to be pretty nice, despite the cluster that is my account.

My husband's company has a link that provides a co-branded website for us to utilize (he works for a large company).

If I don't want to use the website, and I call I have to talk to a special department, corporate accounts or something and have to either be discussing an existing account which I can be authenticated on, or have a verbal code to get access to the pricing for a new account. The regular customer service is not able to provide the same discounts. This is for personal use phones.

I can also speak to the AT& T rep who is assigned to my husband's company account; but we only did that once when my 2 week old phone died and the regular customer service wanted to charge me a handling fee to replace it. He literally delivered a new phone to my husband's desk the next day. It was especially ironic since, AT&T told me I had to get a new phone (mine was so old it didn't work on the network) and then they recommended the one that broke. [I am not a phone person, my current phone is 3 years old--I am way out of contract and need to upgrade, but I know how to use this one and don't really want to waste time learning a new phone].

I was able to shop directly from my company's website...it automatically inserted the company 'code'.
Can you ask your HR person?

Just realized we probably HAVE to go to the store & can't do it online.

We want to take my AT&T pay-as-you-go phone # & SIM card and get an iPhone, but the company discount is from my DH. So we need to get new phone, new contract, and move the phone # to his name. I see online that moving the # to his name requires signing some type of form for both of us which probably needs to be done in person.

Hope its the same price in the store.
Nothing is ever easy, is it? lol

It will be the same price in the store unless you were shopping for a refurbished phone from the AT&T website.

The sim card from another phone cannot be used in an iPhone, fyi. You'll also need to show your license.

One thing you could consider is going somewhere like WalMart at their AT&T booth to upgrade. They were having some sort of special on Smartphones recently but also you may be able to get a less expensive 3G phone if you want to go that route (they still have some in stock in some stores).

I got four and they weren't able to do it with any of them. :confused3

That's too bad. They didn't have any problem moving the data from mine, my husband's, or my father's (and we all had different phones), but they did say that it doesn't always work. Either you got someone who didn't know what they were doing, or you were unlucky!

We have done this twice now and once online and once in a store. I just told them who I worked for and they looked up our discount code at the store. I did have to go to an actual AT&T store though rather than the stores that just offer AT&T products

They had to fax in a copy of my work ID to get the discount applied to my account. This was at a dealer that offered AT&T, not the actual AT&T store. She told me that AT&T required the fax in order to get the discount.

Apple products weren't included in that offer.

Thanks for the info about not being able to move the sim card. Thankfully, I don't have a ton of phone #s if info doesn't move over nicely.
