Work at Kohls

Well I LOVE that store so I definitely could not afford to work there. :rotfl:
My husband has been in sales and retail for 20+ years and he has told me (actually just recently) that they work their people to the bone.
Not sure about your area. If you're considering it for p/t it might be worth a try. :confused3

My college roomie worked at Kohl's and loved it!

On Monday, my sister accepted an internship there!! :)

I must say I'm biased! LOVE Kohl's! :)

I work there and (at least at our store) they treat their overnight people not-so-wonderfully. They pay is pretty low and the hours vary greatly week to week, which may be true for any retail position. One week I may have 8 hours and 40 the next. They are also VERY fond of calling their employees a few hours before a shift starts and asking them if they can come in.

There is consistently a lack of communication and the inability of management to properly schedule people. We are often short staffed (and we have plenty of people who work overnight that are available), and inappropriately staffed (people placed in the wrong areas).

That being said, working at Kohl's has been an adventure. Maybe it is just the store I work at that experiences these problems but there is no one on my team that feels like Kohl's cares about them. We are just warm bodies (as one of our managers once called us).

If you are considering working at Kohl's I would stop by the store and ask a few random employees what the best and worst things about working in that store are. You should get a pretty good idea of how the store is run.

I have to agree..I did 2 Christmas seasons there and was asked to stay on after the 2nd one but didnt. I was a 'cashier' however I had to stay until everyone else left even though I counted down my drawer and straightened my area because everyone had to make sure the whole store was straightened up. Why they didnt get the floor workers to start it themselves earlier is beyond me but they waited and got help!

Sometimes we got out pretty late especially when the holiday hours started or there was a special sale.

I also felt taken advantage of and not appreciated and the pay did stink. The discount is nice though. I just thought the managers were ridiculous about some of the things they made you do and also do when the store closed.

I work p/t at Kohl's and I love it! We have 2 Kohl's in my area and I chose to work at the one I knew I'd be a better fit at. I work with some really nice people, including the managers. I don't know if my store in unique in this, but we have an all female managerial staff. I'm a cashier, and it's true, we do stay after the store closes and get the departments back in shape. It's called team work! At busy times of the year we might stay up to 45 minutes, but we're usually out within 15 minutes of the store closing. The pay stinks, but there is the discount. A couple times a year there's also employee shop days where you get extra discounts. I leave my f/t job and tell my friends I'm going to my fun job! Feel free to pm me if you have any questions.:wave2:

This was my experience too. Overnights were store closing to when the first manager came in for the morning rounds (usually 10 PM until 6 AM). I think your experience will really depend on the management of that particular store. The store manager at ours was not a pleasant person to anyone and she really seemed to look down on overnight staff.

I also work at Kohls part time and I love it too. Our store opened last Oct 1st, and many of the employees are the same ones that were there when it opened, so we do feel like one big team. Yes, if people call out sick, they do call to see you if can come in early to make up for the employees that are out, but you can say no. Also, some nights when the store is a wreck, the management team might make an announcement that if anyone can please stay, please do! But again, you can leave if you need/want too. The pay isn't great, but thankfully I don't need the money to pay my bills - it is all going into a special account for a trip to Disney in November! Check out the personalities, that can make a big difference.

Anyone work at Kohls part time? Good bad experiences?

I worked at Kohl's part time during the holiday season. The 2 things I hated was that Kohl's like most retail stores want you to open up a certain amount of charge customers and I hated pressuring people to open up a charge card, especially a store charge at 21% interest. Since I worked the night shift, I couldn't go home until the entire store was clean :scared1: which meant some pretty loooong nights.

are you one of my co-workers?
