Word of caution - watch your buggy

While we were in the Pirates ride someone made off with our stroller/buggy/poussette. We checked all around to be sure it wasn't just moved and when we asked for assistance from the attendant he said (without any concern, I might add) that someone must have taken it and we could file a complaint at the City Hall. When we did, the attendant there said, "It happens a lot there". Bad things happen everywhere I suppose, but it was hard to have much Disney Magic after that.:sad1:

omg that is just awful. i was very nervous of that happening. especially at potc as that was where we were missing from the longest. while in dlrp i saw somebody chain a buggy to the railing and i laughed. its not such a funny idea now.

What sort of person does these things? That is such a miserable thing to do.

Last year, on this forum, a member asked for advice on tips for their 1st trip to DLRP with a toddler. I advised that we take a bike chain with us, and put it on the buggy and attatch to railings at designated buggy area ( so wasn't needed to be moved by CMs)

And to be honest, my advise got quite a few replies saying that there wasn't a need, that members had never heard of buggys being taken. But I continue to take mine, and so do friends that I know.

I hope it didn't ruin your trip too much:)

Yes, it was our own and it was not found. At least it happened on the last day of our trip and my son was outgrowing it anyway, but yes, I will advise others to bring locks...

That is awful and I am so surprised to hear that someone made off with your buggy, did they not think you might spot them with it :confused3

I'm so glad that we have only once had to use a buggy for my niece and we hired one, I lost track of the amount of times one of us had to go back to the rental to get a new one in fact almost every time we came off a ride or out of a show, so I'd definately agree with the bikechain. :thumbsup2

It was a bit funny that for the rest of the day I was plotting in my head what I might say if I saw someone with it. I'm not great at confrontation, but I had a few words planned. Unfortunately, I didn't get the chance. Probably for the best, I'm not sure I'd want my son to hear those words I had planned.

Its disgusting that someone would do that but I have said before - for a reasonably small ticket price DLP is a thiefs paradise. All those people whose first thought is enjoyment and who are maybe not aware as you would be at home plus lots of crowds and places to sneak into.

I think the bike lock sounds a good idea - our local pound land has them..funnily enough for £1 so its not a bank breaker to get one and if you don't want to bring it home again to leave it at resort.

That's awful that someone would take your buggy, we left ours without any lock on it and wouldn't be using one again for Lottie as she's too big, but will certainly pass the tip on about taking a bike lock.

Whilst we only had a lightweight old stroller, it amazed me that people were leaving £500+ Quinnys, Bugaboos, M&P buggies unattended.

i agree people do forget that there are people out there who will rob you disneyland or no disneyland. my first trip i was so paranoid but then i relaxed a little. still and all we collected the buggy after every ride. we were on the cups on day and my mom started screaming like a lunatic, she had left her handbag on the buggy so she ran off the ride. everyone was staring at her saying whats up with her. i was left there with ash mortified lol. needless to say she kept a tight hold of her bag for the rest of the trip

That's terrible that someone would do that! Can you claim the money back on your insurance?

We always take an old buggy with us and go with the tip another DISer posted and park it beside some more expensive, nicer looking one ;)

Not just the buggies to watch. Always watch your bags. On my first visit to Disney I was pickpocketed. Could not believe I could be robbed, I am always so careful. Purse was lifted from my bag. Happened at one of the parades, where everyone is happy, taking pictures and smiling and singing with each other. Would not have believed I would be a target.

Didn't ever put us off going as we have been six times since but I am very, very careful.

Thankfully in all our trips we have not had any problems, apart from hired buggies going walkies :rolleyes1
Last summer I saw the good side of guests. I was waiting with DD for OH and the troops to come off Big Thunder Mountain. We then went on to the fireworks at the hub. When we got there I realised I had left my digital SLR at the bench. My heart sank, but not for long. A guest who refused any reward was sitting their waiting for me to return with my camera as they had seen us walk off :goodvibes

OP i'm sorry to hear about your pushchair being stolen.

That was good of them, some people wouldn't have even thought to wait. I would cry if I did something like that

My sis borrowed our video camera while we were there this wk. We left the Silver Spur at 8 just as Candlebration was starting. She went to video it-only to realise she had left it in restaurant :scared1: :scared1:

She legged it back in there-thankfully it was still hanging on the back of the chair where she had left it :rolleyes1

I once read a tip on here to leave a (clean) nappy in a nappy sack tied to your buggy handle. After all, who in their right mind is going to steal a pushchair with a dirty nappy tied to it?

Still has me smiling even now! :rotfl:

I took a lock with me last year. If I couldn't lock it to a rail I would lock it in a way which meant it couldn't be pushed. Total deterent! BUT when we ate in Planet Hollywood, someone took the rain cover AND blanket from the pushchair from right at the back of the buggy parking inside!!! This made me so so angry as I had to by a new blanket "disney style", which cost me £20 that I hadn't planed to spend grrrrrr

When we go in July I am hiring a buggy as we will be onsite and travelling on Eurostar (I live right next to Ashford station) so hopefully it'll be easier this time around. But sheesh, you are a lowlife if you steal from a child.

that is disgraceful, to steal a blanket! my god!
i am worried now about our trip as we are taking our M&P Pulse fold up pushchair, will be taking a lock & will be wary, you dont really want to be worried about all this do you for a 3 day break :confused3

I'm hiring a buggy this time, just for the ease of not lugging on and off the train.
