Wawa is opening first Florida store
By Sandra Pedicini, Orlando Sentinel
8:57 p.m. EST, November 6, 2011

Wawa, a Pennsylvania-based convenience store chain, is starting construction on its first Florida store across from SeaWorld at International Drive and Central Florida Parkway.

Cuhaci & Peterson Architects of Orlando completed the design for the 5,000-square-foot store, which should open in July.

Four more stores will open shortly after that.

They will be on Hoffner Avenue and South Goldenrod Road in Orlando, John Young Parkway and Silver Star Road in Orlando, U.S. Highway 192 and Simpson Road in Kissimmee and Orange Blossom Trail and on East Donegan Avenue in Kissimmee.

If we drove to Disney, I would be thrilled to hear this! Wawa is great!

One thing that has always made Philadelphia sandwiches (steak sandwiches, hoagies and such) so good is the bread. There is one bakery - Amoroso - that supplies all of the rolls to Wawa. They are not a national company so I'm curious to see what Wawa does for rolls in Florida. If the bread is different, the sandwich just isn't the same.

Other than that, we love Wawa. I always buy my gas there as they are usually among the cheapest around. And I'll grab dinner there on my way to evening meetings at least once a month.

Finally, decent coffee while on vacation!!!!!

Where do you get a name like Wawa, though? What's it mean?

I tried to google it, and this came up under pets for sale:

Cleveland. Mentor. Free Full Blooded Male Chi Wawa.
:lmao::rotfl:

Sayhello

Wawa is the name of the town they started in. Wawa, PA. It like a 7-11, sheetz, but way better ! I am curious to how they handle the roll situation. nothing like an amoroso!!

Oh, well that makes sense. Thanks. I'm surprised there aren't any in Ohio...

Wawa is a Native American word for Canadian goose in flight.

The original Wawa dairy was in Wawa, PA, now home to one of their dairy plants and Wawa HQ.

The first Wawa market opened in Folsom, Delaware County, PA in 1964.

All about three miles from my office ... I kind of live in Wawas.

My dbf said the same thing. Unless the plan on shipping the rolls, the sandwiches just won't be the same.

There are several places that are owned by those from the Philly area I've found in Florida (at least in the Clearwater area) that ship in the rolls, so hopefully Wawa will do the same.

The land has been cleared and construction is beginning on the one near Sea World. I don't know what a "Wawa" is, but I am not thrilled they choose that corner to build on. There is already a couple of gas stations, and three fast food places in that area and CVS on the opposite corner.

Wawa's are are so good that our former German au pairs have returned home to Germany and still talk about missing Wawa, LOL. I'm serious. I live in PA and Wawas are the cleanest and most efficiently run quick gas marts I've ever used. You'll be very pleased, despite the location.

UGHHH all the more reason why I need to move to Orlando!! I'm in SC while my boyfriend goes through college and am MISSING MY WAWA TERRIBLY!!!!
