after calling sw and trying online to change our fares since the new fares were announced last week, today it worked!!

i had been told by sw (and reported here) a number of times that because i was not changing date or flight that i had to be stuck w/the higher price... well, that's just not true 'cause today i went to sw.com one more time (just to quadruple check!) and voila! the change at the lower fare (same flight) went thru! I am soooo excited! i just saved $100 on our outbound flight and it feels good! (LOL)

so, for those that read my messages about it not being do-able (changing fares w/out changing flights) please disregard my previous advice because southwest either changed their policy or their system truly was down (for a week?!)

I'm so excited! and happy to share the news! hope it helps someone else!

You read that here? Lots of us have reported changing to get the lower fair..and keeping the same flight time.day. They even have a place on line that makes it easier than it used to be. What some have reported, is that you may only get credit to be used within a year. Others have reported, that if nothing changed except the price, you may get a credit on yoru credit card.

i read it here and i posted it here 'cause i tried dozens of times to no avail... i called southwest multiple times and various reps told me it was not do-able... could not get credit/refund unless i "changed" something (other than just the fare) and having tried every day for a week anyway (i'm persistent! LOL!), when i tried today, it worked! hence my excitement! LOL!

thanks for reporting back what happened....

gigi

makes me feel better now that it does work ( although i have never done it myself to completion, just as far as seeing what would happen if i wanted to change ....always got as far as "book this fare" but did not click on the button )

How do you keep the same flights, but get a lower fare?

I went into Change Flights, picked my two flights, chose the same flights again at a lower fare and then hit new fare.

It told me I did not change the flights so I could not get a new price.

How do you do it?

Debbie

that was the glitch she was referring to originally.....

do not know the answer, but have read other posts where they say they have been able to change to get lower price without changing the "flights"

so who knows why it works for one and not the other...

Just Cancel and rebook using your credit when paying for the new flight. Just did it this morning.

I cancelled and then rebooked the flights. Then called SWA and they credited my cc for the difference. Took a little longer this way, but, it got done without any error messages.

i was afraid to cancel/rebook 'cause it showed only one seat available at the lower rate... what if i ended up w/a higher rate?! YIKES! (LOL)

and i don't know how/why it worked one day and not the others... or for some and not others... i just encourage everyone to keep trying... which is why i posted it here!

debbie, perhaps you want to try doing only one leg of the trip at a time... it cannot hurt and some savings is better than none!

good luck all!
