Today I wrote a check for new windows, I called the lumbar yard and said you don't take credit cards, right? He said they do, Yipee. (Rip up that check). Sad though cause I paid with a check for the new counter top, I really thought they told me no cards, ah well.
Brick yard said they accept credit cards and they said there is no discount if the Masonary guy pays or if we pay. He does get discount for other supplies, ok fine.
Need to go pay the ortho bill for set of braces number two. Thought they only took cash.
Got a different car last week, they accepted a small down payment.
Using our set aside accounts for these purchases, we try to be cheap all the time, just ask our kids. Wa ha ha. Last year we bought the four day DVC tickets with rewards for all four of us. I am all ready starting my dream wish list.

You did well! I am always on the lookout for credit card rewards. (Sorry about the counter top. I just opened a Disney Visa for the $200 offer and not a week later I found out that not only could I have the $49 first year fee waived, someone else could have made some money with a referral. So I feel your pain lol).

Do you use flex spending money for the ortho? I was able to still use my credit card to pay, then I submitted the bill to our FS provider.

I did not flex for the ortho. Ortho did not have a set date for him in October 2014 visit. Said repeat visit march. In march said 3 teeth to loose yet but let's get him started this year. Oh well.

Jealous! My window guy didn't take credit cards and it killed me to spend $15K without getting any points/miles. I was sorely tempted to go with one of the big home improvement stores instead but in the end went with the person who gave me the best deal and had the best reputation. Also DD's ortho was old school and cash/check only!

This morning I was thinking about my plans to earn/use Disney Visa points over the next few months and I realized I've started "compounding" my points to a certain extent. So, I've been planning an extended family vacation and I've been buying all the Disney related stuff (like tickets) for all our family members and having them pay me back, because it gets me double points and they prefer that I make their arrangements anyways. Then I'm going to use those points to partially pay off the cruise portion of the trip. But I'm not going to be able to pay of the entire cruise, so I'll pay for the remainder with my Disney Visa and get double points. Then I'll use those points to get myself a TIW card. I'll then pay for all our party's meals while we're in WDW, getting the 20% discount from TIW, and earning double points on what's left. Then, ultimately, I'll use the points I earned on vacation to partially pay off my DVC dues for next year. The remainder, of course, will be paid with my Disney Visa, earning me double points. It never ends! (Well, hopefully not, anyways).

I think this qualifies me as a Disney Visa discount maven!:teeth:

A friend of mine was in a similar situation and was able to use one of the checks that they used to send with your statements. Wondering if you could call and request a check that is tied to your credit card if you explained the vendor doesn't take credit cards. My friend purchased her car this way

It was a year ago but thanks for the suggestion. I believe there are cash advance fees associated with those checks that would wipe out any "earnings" from the points/miles.

Depends on the fine print - I have used before with no changes, but now that I do e-statements haven't seen one of those little guys in a long time :)

Chase is always sending me those checks. I want to turn them off, but haven't taken the time yet. I would never use one of those.

You don't get points on those checks. They consider them as cash advances. I just did this due to the deal I was getting, no interest for 12 months. NO POINTS :(
