But sending severe weather and traffic reports and letting those go who live furthest:confused3 WTH!!?!!??!

Sorry, if one person gets to go home everyone should. I would be walking out that door.

Our office is ALWAYS open. If you don't feel safe coming in, you have to take a PTO. I don't know what they'd do in a state of emergency, because we haven't had one of those since I've been there.
Most of us have gotten the equipment to work from home, that way we don't have to drive in bad weather.

We just got an email from the President saying we could go home, but our call center is telling us not to go anywhere yet....I don't get it!

We never close unless the governor actually closes all the roads in the state.

Sounds exactly like job. If we leave early we also have to use our PTO. As of now, there are only a few people here. The rest cut out early and I doubt that my boss (the office mgr) even knows it. He's been on a con call for over an hour.

The day hurricane Katrina hit, I was attending a continuing education seminar. As the lawyer/speaker was droning on and on about estate taxes or some such, the power went out...no lights, no microphone. Yet he kept talking. The power was restored about a week later. I left when the power went out, by the way.

I work at a nursing home...so obviously there is no, I can't get in. I am management (non-nursing) but I have to be there no matter what. Needless to say, i'm on maternity leave, so I'm home today.

I guess there was a really bad storm a few years back and no one could get in, the maintenance man (who had a big truck) went and picked people up, as well as members of the police department. everyone who was already there had to stay.

DW took off today to stay with DD as they were delayed until 10:00 anyhow and she starts at 7:00 . So she takes a vacation day . None of her bosses came in and had the nerve to call her at home and ask why she didn't just walk to work.

Now it is only about 6 blocks but it's up hill and nothing but Ice. She could have drove but decided to stay home as is allowed as long as they take apersonal or Vacation day.

We had to go in or would have gotten docked a days paid . I made it to my account with little problems after getting out of the side street.

It just makes no sence that one person is worse or better off because of where they live. They can all decide to move close by or far away.

But then how do you get home?

Last night, I had class from 6-9. Our prof said she'd let us go if it started snowing. Hello? I live 40 miles away. Once it gets going, that's too late. I left at 7:30 even though she didn't let us go early and got the notes from someone who lives within walking distance.

Our office never closes. You are free to take Annual Leave if you feel like you can't travel the roads. On several occasions we have lost power for the day -- it was in the summer, so naturally we didn't have any air conditioning. Closed -- no, the office still stayed open!

I work in IT. They let everyone go home at 3:00 yesterday. The night guy still had to come in at 5:00pm. This happens everytime it snows. The day shift people can leave because the weather is bad. The night people have to come in because someone needs to be here. If the weather is really bad the night person is stuck if no one comes in on the day shift. The weather is too bad for day shift people to drive in but not night shift people. What kind of craziness is that?????

We were under a level 3 snow emergency today, which means no one can travel. There were businesses telling their employees to ignore the warning and to come in or face disciplinary action! I guess a couple of people called in to the police dept and asked them about it, and they took action. If you are caught on the roads during a level 3, it is a fine of $150. If your employer made you come into work and you were caught, the employer got the fine. :thumbsup2

I also work in IT. Everyone else in our building was cutting out between 2:30 and 3 pm. Because I'm the receptionist, I had to stay. My question is: who am I supporting if no one is here?

The only night crew we have is our purchasing dept. They are here until 8pm daily for the west coast folks.
