Wondering about vacation homes

What about all the rules? So many of them say you can't do this or that, like change the temprature in the house. Can we set up a small Christmas Tree? We usually stay in a DVC studio because there are just two of us, and since we drive up from Fort Lauderdale we don't have to worry about Disney transportation. This trip though there will be at least 9 and possibly 12 people most of them flying in.

Those who have had a good experience who did you rent from and where did you stay? Some look like hotel rooms with the furnishings and bedding, others look like a real home. I want to stay in the latter. We want to stay somewhere that they respect the renter, and the renter will respect their house.

We rent pool homes in newer communities within a few minutes' drive to WDW. I would highly recommend these homes, where we have stayed, for both proximity to the parks and high quality furnishing:

www.emeraldfootprints.com (4 bedroom and 6 bedroom in Emerald Island)
www.disneyvacahome.com (6 bedroom home in Emerlad Island)
www.valhallavillas.com (2 6 bedroom homes in Windsor Hills)

I would also recommend them for a million other reasons including cost, great owners and MCs, lots of extras, etc.

We love staying offsite now. If you do a search you can find lots of threads in which offsiters give all the reasons we prefer offsite stays.

It can be a bit of work to find the right home when renting by owner. If you do not enjoy searching (on sites such as www.vrbo.com), and if you do not mind paying slightly more, you can deal with a reputable management company, such as Dreamsvillas.com (sponsors of this board), which can find you a home and deal with the owner for you.

Hope this helps!

Have you ever had any trouble with the parks being closed due to capacity? We were there at Christmas and since we stayed on site this was not an issue but we saw many people not able to get in .

We're planning our 3rd year at www.sjsvillas.com a wonderful 6 bedroom, 4 bath pool home overlooking a pond and VERY CLOSE to Disney. You'll need to check their availability calendar, but if the home is available you will enjoy it and the owners are a delight to deal with. There are some very good rental companies, but I will recommend renting from the owners directly. We go during the slow period mid January and I don't dare mention what a great deal we get except to say it's about the cost of one average hotel room.

Our group ranges in size from 2 to 12 and we've never felt crowded and really enjoy the chance to visit without being in someones bedroom and the opportunity to cook meals when we want to.

The private heated pool is a real treat and it usually gets used twice a day by nieces and nephews. I can't imagine going back to hotel rooms or even a small suite after enjoying this luxury (for less cost!). Hope you find the accomodations that work for you and have a wonderful time!

No, but we always get there at opening, or 30 minutes before.

Thank you. While we were there there were so many other cars being turned back. DH kiddingly said we should sell the paper they put on the windshield for $100. Or call someone outside the park and say Neon green, neon green today the paper is neon green and sell the papers before the gate. hee hee we could make $$$$$$$$.

There's 9 adults in our group. We are staying in Formosa Gardens at St. Andrews Villa. It has 7 beds/6baths. 4 king suites, 1 queen room, 1 room with 2 twins, and 1 room with 2 sets of bunks - twin on top, full size on bottom. It also has a games room with a full size pool table, and full size air hockey table.

The owners are Franco & Audrey, and they've been very nice to work with.

You won't be disappointed in a pool home... especially with 9-12 in the group.

Good luck!

The Emerald Island website has a lot of spelling and context errors. After the first few errors, I didn't even want to see what the owner had to offer.
