Wondering about the weather in early January

We'll be in Orlando for the first two weeks of January next year. I know the weather can be especially unpredictable at this time of year. When we were there in December, 2001 we had temperatures in the 80s, but I know some of you who went the year before experienced bitterly cold weather. I've a feeling it might have been similar this year.

Who's been in January, and what was the weather like?

Hi Debbie,

Our relatives who live there say it is different every year - not much help I know but this thread illustrates this too.

Thanks, Shirley - that's pretty much what I thought. I was trying to get an idea of what clothes to pack. Maybe we'll get a better idea nearer the time. We're spending 3 days in New York before flying down to Orlando, so we'll have to pack some warmer things in any case. And if I don't take everything I need, it's a good excuse to buy more!

It's VERY difficult to be certain of the weather in Dec, Jan, Feb and even at times the begining of March. It can be anything from overnight frost to mid 70s and often you'll get both ( and everything in between) within a 2 week period. It's unusual for the weather to remain very cold for that long so generally, if you get a couple of hot days hit the waterparks/pool, the rest of the time carry a sweater for the evenings but play it by ear.

We were there from 29 December this year returning to UK on the 11th. First 2 nights in Miami - glorious weather, South Beach is a mad house, asleep during the day and partying until 4am!

Drove up to Kissimme New Year's Eve intending to spend the evening at Universal - we try to hit there or MGM if we are out at this time. About 7.00pm a torrential downpour started and just did not let up. Abandoned all plans for hitting Universal and nipped out to the Outback. Long wait outside dodging the rain under the shelter, indifferent meal served by waiter moaning his head off the whole time about how long we was working that night! Home by 10.30 and I think it safe to say the soberist I have ever been on Hogmonay!

Rest of the holiday was lovely during the day and chilly at night. Girls swam - we didn't, but it was great for being at the parks, not too crowded, no long waits for the rides. But we have been there when it is very cold for Florida, so we take jumpers and gloves and scarves just to be on the safe side.

However cold it is there, it's much colder back here!!;)
