Charlie was gone; the CMs did really an excellent job taking care of the Lodge
We want to thank all the CMs who did their best to have us safe and comfortable in spite of Charlie.
Saturday, the day after, we had to drive from WL to Port Canaveral to board the Disney Magic. We were quite worried about the situation of the roads (debris, fallen trees ) but everything was reasonably in good shape (at least considering what we were expecting): We reached Port Canaveral at 10 AM, ready for an early check-in, to allow early boarding (PALO reservations ), but we discovered that the ship just docked! It usually docks around 5AM, but high winds and waves delayed everything and when we arrived most of the people of the previous cruise were still on board.
We were told to be back at noon. We visited Ron Jon (again
wasnt that in a different place?) and were back at noon as requested, but nothing was ready yet. We remained in the car, under the Florida sun, one hour more
it was HOT!
When it was time to get down from our car a thunderstorm started so we were hot and soaked can you imagine DH mood!!!!
We entered an almost desert terminal at 1PM and our cruise documents were waiting for us, as planned (we asked for a pier pickup, not relying on Italian mail). We filled the documents and made the check-in. No time to relax, yet: we had to tag our luggage, enter the terminal with the car to the drop off area and our luggage was finally embarked. We drove back, in a major storm, to AVIS and returned the car (what a mess the AVIS booth!); thanks to the AVIS shuttle we were back to port and were finally embarked.
All the ship schedule of Saturday was delayed versus what was reported in the Navigator: Sail Away celebration had one hour delay and was in the atrium, due to the storm; there was the usual countdown but the ship didnt depart we were still waiting delayed guests
We had planned a DIS meeting, near the Goofys pool during the Sail Away celebration, but we didnt have a backup plan in case of rain, so we could not meet most of our DIS friends.
Back to the stateroom: Sunday was my birthday and I got lot of gifts waiting for me in my room
A room decoration ordered (without telling anything to me) by my GRUMPY husband
, a Magical Memory gift by Dreams Unlimited and a happy birthday cake, in addition to the expected on board credits (the Cruise was booked while on board) and Castaway Club gifts (isnt time to replace those towels with some other perks?)
LAURA BIRTHDAY GIFTS: MAGICAL MEMORIES, ROOM DECORATION, CASTAWAY CLUB GIFTS
LAURA BIRTHDAY CAKE
We still had to wait for passengers who were trying to reach the ship: Orlando airport was closed most of Friday and Saturday and also driving from the North was quite difficult. The ship departed at 7.30 PM and about one thousands guests were missing. Lot of them were able to reach the ship the day after at KeyWest. Sunday at KeyWest was a normal good cruise day but lot of confusion started on Monday
(to be continued)
