We are taking our first cruise in June and I found the 2008 cruise meets list but this one is not on it yet so I figure I'll start it and see if there are any other DISers then, too.

Anyone?

oops - I should have posted this in the cruise meet thread - sorry

OK - we're on the list! Any one else going on this one????

Wow - for so long there was no other posts on this thread that I stopped checking - I'm so happy to hear another DIS family will be onboard! It's our family's first cruise too and afterwards we're heading over to BWV for 3 days.

Wow, we will be right across the lake from you. After the cruise we are spending six nights at BCV. We have stayed at the Boardwalk in the past, but never the Beach Club. I think we are just as excited about the WDW stay as the cruise. At any rate, it will be a great time and less than 4 weeks now!!! :cool1:

BC is so great - we stayed there last year - the pool is really terrific - you'll love it. We were at the BW in "04 and our kids really wanted to stay there again this time - they love that pool slide!

I've moved this over to the meets forum for you.

I've moved this over to the meets forum for you.

Thanks - that's where I thought it was :confused3 cuz the link was on the list but then I saw it on the regular DCL board - again, thanks!!

My fiance' and I will be going on the June 19th cruise! I found the DIS boards after we booked our cruise so I'm a bit of a newbie (obviously since this is my first post!).

We live in Orlando so I've taken FI to the World a couple of times lately so he can get used to the crowds and children. He has social anxiety disorder, but it's not too severe. He also fears children... :rotfl2: He's the baby of his family and just hasn't been around anyone younger than himself.

The cruise was his idea though. He turns 25 the day we set sail, I think it's the perfect birthday gift.

Question though... should I bop on over to DTD and grab some lanyards for our KTTW cards or wait until we reach Canaveral? I'm notorious for losing things.

Hi:wave: Brena - welcome to another DISer on the June 19th cruise (even if it is your first post!)

- not sure about the lanyard thing - this is going to be our first cruise so I don't know what is the best thing to do. I have one of those plastic things that they sell in the waterparks and I was thinking about using that since I may end up having to carry more than just my own card and I don't want multiple lanyards around my neck - too hot!

Hi, everyone!
My DH (David) and I (Rose) just booked a Category 9 GTY on this cruise with a Florida Resident rate.
It was kind of a last minute decision - And we're leaving the kids (DS13, DS10, DD7) behind with family this time!
We did just take a 3 night on May 8th, so they had their fun with Mom and Dad and now we get some time alone to ourselves!
Since we are Castaway Club members (this is our 3rd cruise, we also took a 4 night back in Dec. 2006 and are taking a 7 night in Aug. 2009), we will get more lanyards when we check in.
You can fit two cards in the lanyard pocket (don't touch the magnetic strips), but anymore would be almost impossible to get out of the pocket!
If you are a first time cruiser, I would wait until you get on board and we set sail and check out the selection in Mickey's Mates.
There are some lanyards for sale in the port, but I'm pretty sure the selection on board is much better.
Since we have a GTY cabin, we don't know where we will be located and since we won't have the kids with us, we won't be able to "match up" kids to know each other in the clubs, but maybe we could have a quick meet before the muster drill? Or maybe meet up in one of the clubs at night after the kids are in the clubs?
Also, would anyone be interested in doing a "fish extender" gift exchange? If you haven't read about them, you hang a pocket organizer outside your door on the metal fish and people on your cruise meet exchange stateroom numbers. You can then leave little gifts daily or once per cruise for each other. It's a lot of fun. Just wondering if anyone might want to do this?
Well, that's a lot for now ... PLEASE, if you have any questions about the cruise, ask away.
I'd be happy to help out in any way I can!
Later,
Rose :)

Hi Rose,
Well, I don't know what exactly I am agreeing to, but we are interested in doing a "fish extender" gift exchange. Can you post a picture of what a "fish extender" is and some examples of gifts? Also, how do we exchange room numbers?
This will be fun!

Tammy

Thanks for the advice everyone! I'll probably wait until we get onboard and buy a lanyard. I love having options.

We'd definitely be up for a meet and/or fish extenders!

Hi, everybody!
I'm so glad to hear from other DISers going on this cruise! DH and I are looking forward to a vacation w/o the kids (first time in over a year) and taking it a little slower than we usually do when we have them with us.
For those of you interested in a fish extender exchange, here is a thread with lots of examples of FE's (we bought a personalized embroidered one off eBay, but you can even just use a tote bag) and ideas for little gifts.
http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=1219607
We gave magnets, keychains, "emergency item" kits, glow sticks, and a CD that I had made with music played on DCL on it.
One little gift per day is what our group did and it was so much fun going back to the room and checking the FE to see what goodies had been delivered.
We were in a Cat 9 room b/c that was the lowest Cat that was available for the Florida Resident rate when we booked, but since then, a Cat 10 came up and we switched (saves us $60). We will be on Deck 2 in Stateroom #2547.
If you post and let me know you'd like to join in an FE exchange, I can get a list going (around 4-5 would be good, I think - our last one had 8 on it and it was a lot of running around). You can PM me your room # and names/ages of your family members (we like to do special gifts for the kids).
Maybe we'd also like to do a quick meet at 3 PM in the Promenade Lounge before the Muster Drill?
Well, Signature and Payment Authorization Forms are printed out and signed, birth certificates are set aside, and clothes are starting to get "piled up."
Only 9 days left to go!
Rose :)

Hi Rose,

I sent you a PM with our information. We would love to participate in the FE gift exchange. I will try to watch this link to ensure I have all rooms, but so far is just your group and mine? See you in the Promenade Lounge! OH, how will we know it is you?
Tammy

Hi, again, everyone!
Well ... It looks like there is some interest in doing an FE exchange, but so far it's just 2 families - degrapevine (My DH David [41] and me, Rose [38]) in Stateroom #2547 and NE14DisneyWorld (Tammy, DH Mike, and granddaughter Lauren [7]) in Stateroom #6068.
Come on and join us!
Brena - PM me if you want me to add your name to our "list" - I just need your stateroom # and the name of your fiance' - Ellen, you, too!
It's really fun and easy - You can just hang a tote bag on your "fish" outside your door and the gifts can be as simple as a souvenir from your hometown (magnets, pens), Pirate Gear (beads, coins, eyepatches), candy, Disney "stuff", etc.
Tammy, we'll plan on doing just one little gift each day (Thurs-Sat) and David and I would love to meet your family - Let's say 3:15 PM in the Promenade Lounge. I think we will be doing the Walking Tour (although this is our 3rd cruise, we haven't done it yet and I'm interested in hearing some interesting info about the ship) and that ends then, so we'll have about 15 min or so before they tell us all to scram and get to our rooms to get ready for the Muster Drill.
You have our ages, so that will give you a clue as to who you are looking for ... I am 5'3", with very dark curly hair and dark brown eyes and David is 6'1", with blonde hair and blue eyes.
I know to look for a set of proud grandparents with their granddaughter! We are sailing alone this time, but I'm sure my DD7 Gina would have loved to meet your Lauren.
I look forward to meeting you in just one short week!
For the rest of you, come join us!
Rose :)
