Part 3- Castaway Cay
Cast- Sue(mum 42)
DD -Vicki 14
Awoke with a call from the Mickey Alarm just as we were pulling into Castaway Cay. The ship did a full turn and backed into Castaway. From our balcony we could see them tying the ship down and off loading everything they need for the day, eg. Towels, and what looked like creates of food.Could not see the beach from our side of the ship but had a great view of the Post Office and Port.
Made our way to Topsiders for a spot of breakfast and then returned to our room to get ready for the beach. We disenbarked at the rear of the ship and we were about seventh in line to get off. Walked towards the tram area and a cast member told us that the tram would be another 5 mins, so we decided to walk to the family beach, it only took about 6 mins.We actually made it begore the tram and that includes stopping off for a couple of photos taken with the ship in the background (which turned out fantastic)
After arriving at the family beach we made our way down to the front where we were able to get ourselves a hammock and bed. Vicki jumped stright onto the hammock and said it was really comfortable. "Have a go mum" she said, so right enough on I jumped, only to completely fall off the other side. After checking nobody had seen me and brushing myself off with sand and trying to act as though nothing had happen I attempted it again slowley. This was the life indeed. Of course as soon as I got settled, applied sunscreen, got my book ready, Vicki wanted me to go in swimmimg with her. Now I am not that light on my feet and my goodness there is no dignified way to get off those hammocks, down again I go full of sand sticking to my recently applied sunscreen. I then decided that the hammock was for Vicki and the bed would be good for me.
We enjoyed the swimming and Vicki had rented a round float which we had great fum in. There were photographers in the water and we had a couple of shots taken while playing with the float.(just glad there were no photographers around at the time of my hammock charade).Seen plenty of fish in the water, but Vicki was not so keen that they came so close. The beach is wonderful.
Had a quick walk over to the adult beach which looked beautiful and I would have used this had Vicki wanted to go to the teen beach, but she was keen to stay with me for today.
The weather was absolutly fabulous which blue skys and bright sunshine. We then went for lunch at cookies BBQ which was great. Soda was free from the drinks machine on the Island but you had to pay for it at the bars and from the waiters on the beach. After going back to the beach for another hour we were very very hot and decided to go back onboard and swim in the pool. We called into the post office to send ourselves a postcard from this beautiful island. They do not sell postcards at the post office so remember to bring them with you if you want to send them from here.We headed stright for the Goofy pool and it was completely emptey. Bliss. We then went back and sat on the balcony for the rest of the afternoon eating Mickey Bars we ordered from room service. Just as a point to remember we did not get charged for any soda , milk or coffee that we ordered from room service, which was great as we thought it was only free from the drinks station.
The show that evening was the Golden Mickeys which was my favorite, nearly all the characters appeared in this and I thought it was magical.
Dinner that evening was at Parrot Cay, I cant remember what we had but I am sure it was good. We then went to Studio Sea to watch who wants to be a mouseketeer, we did not get picked but it was great fun. The biggest prize seemed to be a crystal paperweight. I think the cruise prizes must be on the 7 day cruise when it is held in the theatre.
Vicki then went off to meet up with some pals from the teen club and I made my way to Treasure Ketch for another round of shopping. Met a lovley girl called Beth originally from Wales where we are from and she was very helpful with helping me pick out some jewellery for Vicki.
Back in my room at about 11.30 I ordered a lovley glass of Chardonny and some coffee and cookies and sat on the balcony watching an amazing electrical storm far off in the distance.Vicki arrived back at about 12.30 completely shattered. She had been playing basketball with some friends.
Our day had been completely magical, Castaway Cay is a beautiful Island and I wondered if Disney would add any more to it. It would have been great if they stayed there until 11pm like Nassau and added maybe some more bars, resturants or something similar so you could use it in the evnings. There seemed to be more than enough room for further development, although I know many would not want to spoil the tranquility of it.
