Wonder - 12/27/2013

I admit I've been lurking...I posted about a month ago that we were considering this as our first cruise and we finally booked a couple weeks ago. We also chose this cruise over the one on the 31st to give us some time to get back to "reality" before heading back to school and work.

I am super excited about our first cruise, there will be myself, DH, DD (10), DS (10), DS ( 8), along with my mom (nana). We are hoping to surprise the kids on Christmas morning, but I don't know if I will be able to contain myself for another 260+ days.

I guess I will have to keep hitting the boards and hope the time passes quickly. Looking forward to planning together.

Welcome! Glad you chose this cruise as your first...we are in the same boat (pun intented) as this is our first also. We also plan on surprising our kids with the cruise for Christmas. I am thrilled just thinking about their potential reaction.

I understand we're still several months away from this voyage, but I'm surprised that this thread does not have more involvement. Prior to securing the Dec 27th cruise, my wife and I contemplated on securing the Jan 4th cruise since it is significantly cheaper, but considering my wife is a teacher, we ultimately chose the Dec 27th cruise so we'd still have a few days before returning from Christmas break as in comparison to keeping the kids out of school a couple of days and going back the day after the cruise.

On the Jan 4th thread, it seems booming with people. If I'm reading it correctly they already have 20 some folks signed up for an FE. I would have thought this cruise would be more popular considering it is scheduled during Christmas vacation. I'm sure we'll see more folks sign on the closer we inch toward the date. Looking forward to a good turn out on this thread.

I've noticed we are slower as well, but I look at it as we can all get to know each other better. :-) We are doing this and the 31st, but no way could I have done the 4th since we'll be back in school before it's over. I think the 4th is the last one isn't it? Maybe that's why it's so popular?

Welcome!! Glad to have another family! pixiedust:

So, has anyone else ever cruised during the winter months? I'm curious what type of weather to expect at sea and in Cozumel. Should we plan to do "water" excursions or plan to stay "on land"?

I'm curious about the same thing. We've only cruised in summer.

So, I read through a lot of the old posts and did a little research....seems that the average lows are 65-68 and avg. high temps range from 70-85...that seems pretty nice to me, considering 7 or so months out of the year it's 90+ here in Corpus. I hope we have great weather for our cruise guys!! Getting excited even though we still have a while! :cool1:

That's probably too cool for me to be in the water for excursions, but great overall weather.

Shari2Shop - I updated my first post, with current cruisers and those interested in FE as I see your posts haven't been updated yet (and I was curious to see the list). Feel free to copy/paste over if you want!

Happy Easter everyone. Hope everyone is having a great one to accompany their weekend.

So, I need a little info on this FE thing. Obviously, since I've never cruised, I'm not in the loop with how this works. What kinds of 'gifts' are the norm? I'm clueless. Also, how does it work? Do you do it on a certain day...or just at some point during the cruise do you deliver? Please help, as I'm interested just have no idea how it all works.:confused3

Rather than put lots of details, I'm going to refer you to links here....But basically, you choose any type of gift. They are usually either Disney related or from your home state/town. You pass them out to each person's fish extender during the cruise. Each of the cruises I've been on has been to do it whenever you want, but I've heard of groups assigning days to each person (UGH!)

There's another one that's titled like Homemade ideas or something...Didn't find it on a quick search, but if you can't find it, let me know and I'll dig it up out of my subscribed threads.

I'd rather just allow leniency for folks to deliver whenever. This way an assigned time will not cut into any activity or plans.

Agreed. We sometimes don't even give all of ours out on the same day. We do an area of the ship at a time.

This year seems to be flying pretty rapidly for us. Not too long ago we celebrated Christmas and put the decorations away...and now we're in the midst of April and close to the end of the school year. For the sake of the cruise I wish this year would hurry along, but I certainly don't want to miss out on the time to spend with my family and any of the memories that can be made in between, for each day that passes is a day we'll never have back. Considering kids tend to grow up fast, I don't mind if it slows down a little to enjoy the time between now and the cruise.

Agreed. The year is flying. I can't believe that next week we start our last six weeks at school. I do not feel like an entire school year has passed.

Who would have thought that it would feel like fall in the middle of April? I'm certainly not complaining...seems like most Aprils in Texas are merely a prelude to an extremely hot summer around the bend.

I remember in 2007 it was very mild for most of the summertime. We took our son (who was 1 1/2 at the time) to the zoo in July and it was in the low 70s. Wish we could have another summer like that, but there is more of a chance of seeing an elephant fly than that occuring any time soon.

My DH and I are booked!! We will be celebrating 14 years of marriage and will be kidless for this cruise. But we don't feel guilty because we just went on a 7 night Fantasy cruise in Feb. lol. Can't wait!!

Welcome. I'm a little jealous of your kid-less vacation. My mom is traveling with us so maybe we'll get a least a little kid-less time onboard.

We had such a great time doing the adult activities on the fantasy we thought it would be nice to do a short cruise by ourselves. And since this is one of the last DCL cruises out of Galveston it was a quick decision. Is anyone on here from Katy, TX. We're from Louisiana and are thinking of moving west. Just curious
