Today, we happen to get our car oil change done at our local dodge dealership. They had some promotional stuff out front in the lot. While we were waiting for the car to get done we walked over to check it out. There was a Nascar simulator there along with some other stuff. The older kids went in the simulator for a couple of free rides. My DS3 and I were waiting and they asked if we had registered for a prize. Anyways, I entered on a computer screen and at the end it said I won a mystery prize. The guy asks me if I like cowboy hats. There were some other kids there that had foam hats and I figured that is what it was. I replied "Sure." He then hands us a gift certificate for a 20x Black Gold Hat. I am a city girl myself and really had no idea what this was. He had to explain to me that it is a $400 HAT! We get to go to any Western apparel store and have to be sized for it and ordered. My daughter(9), the horse lover, and her dad are now arguing over who gets the hat! DH says that she is still growing and it would be silly to get it for her. I never win anything, so it made our day even though we are not quite sure yet what to do with $400 hat. The guy also told me to go the website and enter everyday to win stuff. It is http://dodgeboysredzone.com . I think this is a traveling promo and I think you can check to see when it will be in your area. There were only a few people there when we were there. The other family I saw there had a Sirrus Radio they were carrying around that I think they won. So it was a good day, the oil change was free (had a coupon from before), won a free hat , and did online check in today for our trip in 10 days! :cheer2:

If you won the hat, why are your DH and DD arguing? Why don't you get it?

As you can probably guess from by name, I do know a little bit about cowboy hats. ;)

I'm assuming that it's a Resistol Black Gold, and it really is worth about $350 (not counting shipping and tax), so they're not just making it sound good (it really is a very nice prize!).

If this is a hat that somebody in your family will really wear, you might want to get a hat can to protect it when it's not being worn (about $25) although you could probably make do with the box. You may also want a hat brush or sponge to keep it clean. It will probably need to be shaped, but I"m guessing they'll do that when you pick it up at the store.

On the other hand, if it's not something that you really have a use for, you could probably sell the gift certificate on ebay and make some nice money (assuming it is transferable). If you do, be sure to set a reserve that you would be satisfied with.

Congratulations! That's a nice hat. My daughter bought her (now) husband one for Christmas a couple of years ago.

Personally -- I think you should get the hat for yourself -- Women (including my DW:love: - Oh- and Terri Clark:love:) look smoking hot in cowboy hats. Of course my name gives my feelings away...

Oh sweet!!!! I love it when DBF gets all Cowboyd Up :) That's a really nice hat OP!! When you get the hat ordered (if you order from a store) you should get free shaping with it. DBF doesn't have a hat can, he just uses the box his Resistol came in (his was also a $300+ hat, we got it when our local Western Wear store was going out of business for about $100), he doesn't have a brush for it, he manages to keep it pretty clean, but he doesn't wear it that much really, it's usually sitting in it's box on the top shelf of our closet. :) Congrats on your win!! I know if we won that particular prize we'd get me a hat, mine is a silly green one I got for a St Pat's Day party...LOL Obviously I rarely wear it! LOL :)

Nice prize! My dh looks gooood in a cowboy hat :rotfl: My dd would want the hat too. Good luck deciding.

I had to chuckle - this reminds me of a scene from one of my favorite movies, Urban Cowboy

John Travola: Sissy, you happy?
Debra Winger: Yeah Bud, I'm happy. I got me what I always wanted. I got me a real cowboy.

:rotfl2:
