Has anyone ever started a whole week early while on birth control (specifically Ortho-Tri-Cyclen Lo). I’ve been on it for almost two years, so it’s not like first three month breakthrough or anything. This is the first time this has happened, and while I do have a call into the doctor, she hasn’t called back yet, and in the meantime I’m going insane with fear. What could it be??

TIA

I stopped taking BC about 5 years ago b/c I stopped getting periods, and I'd freak out every month, wondering if I was pregnant. Now DH and I just use condoms, and I keep very close track of my cycle. When I was on BC, the periods disappeared gradually, until I wouldn't even get any spotting. I know BC can change up your cycle, but I never started my period early while on the pill. Hope someone else has had a similar problem to yours and can help you set your mind at ease.

if i am so much as 2 hours late taking mine-i get breakthrough. i'm not taking it for bc-but i'm starting to show signs of menapause and it's made me so irregular (and much heavier than anytime in my life) that the doctor suggested it.

i would'nt worry too much-you may need to go on a stronger dosage type.

These may seem really obvious, so don't think I'm assuming you don't know what you're doing! But did you forget one and take it alot later than usual? Unusual stress?

I just had this happen to me last month. I don't know what causes it and stuck with the 2 weeks!!!!

I had a lot of breakthough bleeding on OTC-Lo. I finally stopped it.

Low dose pills are so sensitive that missing one or even taking it late can cause bleeding. Or it can just happen. Has your weight changed recently? That can also figure in.

I wouldn't worry to much about the bleeding. As long as it's not unusually heavy and you're not in any pain it's nothing to panic about.

Hope you can get this all straightened out soon!

Yes for the past 3 months actually.
I'm on higher dose bc and my gyn says it's totally fine since I just switched to ovcon from depo in March and can take a year to regulate.

When I was on the pill I did this.

I'm on the patch now and I haven't broke through at all in the 2 years I've been on it. In fact I even know the time of day I start my periods (1pm every 4th Thursday)

Fishbone, I can totally empathize! It happened to me the first time a couple of months ago after over 10 years on the pill, and I freaked out at first too.

While you should still talk to your doctor, chances are that you may have just took the pill later than normally, or something to that effect. My doctor said that as long as it only happened once, I probably just screwed up on the timing of the pills (which I suspect I did because it happened during a pretty chaotic time in my work schedule), I shouldn't be concerned. She told me that if it happens frequently, then I should let her know and talk about it.

So, until you can get in touch with your doctor, please try not to worry so much! More than likely, it's nothing.

Thanks guys!!

Nope, didn't forget one, or even run really late (a little late on one, but still within an hour)..... possibly stress, but not too bad.... I've been having a rough time this week missing my Grandma for some reason, but other than that, can't complain.

I did hear from the nurse though, and she said not to worry - and let her know if it happens again next month.... could be just a fluke. Scared me though!! My Grandma died of Uterian Cancer this past February, so every little change makes me nervous - which probably doesn't help anything (enter stress - enter changes).

Anyway - I'm feeling a little less nervous, and here's hoping it's just a fluke.

Thanks again!

I'm not on Birth Control since my DH is "fixed" lol but the older I get the weirder my period is. When I was younger I could count backwards 3 days from the last one and it would be to the "t". Now it may be 7 days back, it may be 5, very rarely is it 3 anymore.

It could be the BC but it could also be age too. Oh and I'm only 34.

I have been on Depo Provera injections for over 8 years and I don't have periods. Every once in awhile I will spot for 3 days or so when it is time for another injection. I have been spotting for 8 days now, and I called my Dr. this morning thinking EXACTLY the same thing - uterine cancer!

For me she said it is just the nature of Depo, even though I have been on it for a LONG time without ever having this happen. I have another shot next week, so it is understandable that my hormone levels are dipping.

I think the low dose BC pills may have more funny patterns/weird cycles than the higher dose ones.

Good luck! I hope it is nothing serious. I can totally relate to how freaked out you feel!
