DH and I are debating riding our Harley to WDW in September.:moped:

It's 600 miles, but we wouldn't do it all at once. Probably break the trip into two parts and take our time and stay overnight (preferably somewhere with a hot tub:rotfl2: ) at about the halfway mark. We would also have to have good rainsuits.

If we do it, I might ship some of clothes to our resort so we don't have to travel with them.

Have you ever ridden a motorcycle FAR? I know one woman who went from SC to the Grand Canyon and another time to Yellowstone!!

I don't see cruising down I-95 with the big 18-wheeler trucks as a fun trip but that's just me. :moped:

I've never ridden on a motorcycle at all. I don't plan on ever doing so unless Paulie from Orange County Choppers himself stops by to take me for a ride! :teeth:

I have ridden on the back of a motocycle for 5 days, approx 4-6 hours in the saddle a day and I was fine. HOWEVER, it was a touring bike, not a Harley and there is a huge difference.

I rode on the back of a Harley sportster? I think it's called, the smaller one anyway, from Pembroke Pines Fl. (southern part of Broward county) to New York City.

Of course I had just turned 21 way back then. Wow! It's been 13 years:scared1: . Double Wow!, no one who knows me now would ever believe I would do something like that. They wouldn't believe alot of things I used to do:rolleyes1 . My poor parents! Of all the people I know, I have change the most with the years. :rotfl: I will never let my ds near a motorcycle!:lmao:

So far we have just ridden a couple of hours but I think the type of harley you have makes a HUGE difference. We started with a Sportster and even with the better seat, I could only ride a couple of hours until pain set in. We now have a Road King and I can ride 2 hours without any problem so I think riding more at a time would be fine.

We want to take a ride like the one that you are talking about, so I say go for it.

As far as riding on the expressways, we normally ride on side roads but just recently rode on I-75 and the semi's were no problem at all, they hardly affected us as we passed.

Good Luck and Happy Riding!!

We have a Road King as well and it has been much more comfortable than the Honda we used to have.

My first wife even slept on the bike when we did long tours. Usually after an hour on the Autobahn I felt her helmet fall against my shoulder and then she slept until the next fuel stop. Many of the ladies in our bike-club did this and nothing ever happened. Our cruising speed was usually in the range of 80 to 100mph and we did up to 500 miles a day.

Longest ride on a motorcycle for me was when I was a teenager, and the guy I was babysitting for rode me home on the back of his motorcycle once.

At the time I thought it was really cool, but I wonder what my parents thought about that?? :lmao:

From MD to NJ, But I was 8. You should of seen how pissed my mom was when my dad returned me on his bike :rotfl2: (they were divorced)

Hubby has gone from NJ to FL. My dad has gone from NJ to ME, LA, TN and I think they are planning the Grand Canyon on of these days. My dad is a little nuts.. when I was younger he rode his regular bike from MD to FL.

I have actually been asleep on this Road King! My husband said he felt my helmet hit his back.

I really think we are going to do it. We'll take back roads some of the way and I can't wait to ride A1A on the Harley. We have huge saddlebags and a small luggage rack so we can take some of our stuff and maybe have a couple of boxes shipped to the VWL since we'll be at WDW for 8 days.

We can leave home on Friday and we don't check in at VWL until Sunday. DH is very good about stopping whenever I say I need a stretch break. I have gone 175 miles in one day. And in May we are riding to Myrtle Beach so I'll have a better feel for it then. We'll only be there 2 nights. It's 200 miles one way.

I just started dating a guy with a Harley and he wants me to go on some bike weekend this summer. I am not sure if I will do it or not. I get a little nervous on them. Funny thing is, I rode them ALL the time when I was young.

The farthest I have ridden on a motorcyle was off a mountain and down into a ravine. Not the best motorcyle ride of my life. Since then, decided that motorcycle trips are not for me.

We've been to Alaska and back (NY) i took a plane (less vacation time then dh) flew to Anchorage then rode back with him from Alaska, we've been Cross country from NY to Ca and Ny to Fl.
Now we have kids so the bike is almost retired now, but i know DH misses riding :guilty:

This is probably a dumb question but is there a more secure place for you to park your bike while at WDW than just the resort parking lot? I'm thinking I'd have a hard time leaving my bike in a lot that I cannot see for long periods of time. Especially if you are like us and park your vehicle the moment you get there and don't drive it again until you leave for home.

Keli - we were thinking of putting it in the valet parking at the resort rather than in the regular parking lot. That is a concern we have talked about. DH said that maybe the valet would let him drive it down to the valet lot and at least it would be a little more secure. What do you think of that? It is something to be concerned about. Thanks!

I used to ride on the back of my brother's Harley growing up. Nothing too far.

He had a Road King when he died. We sold it to one of his friends and now I wish DH and me would have bought it. :guilty:

I think you'll have a wonderful trip. :thumbsup2 We see hundreds of bikes on A1A all the time. They sound and look beautiful.

Make sure to let us know how it went when you return.

Does anyone know what a fair offer would be if I wanted to call the people we sold it to and buy it back. Is there a way to tell what year it is, etc.

Sorry to go OT. Any help would be appreciated.
