I have been having what I thought was just incredibly horrible PMS for the last several months. About a week before I get my period my moods are nuts. I am irritable, prone to mean outbursts, I cry and just generally feel rotten. I also have physical symptoms, I can't sleep, I feel bloated, I ache and my skin is worse than it ever was in high school. I have had PMS all my life and this isn't just PMS. The week before I get my period I struggle to function in daily life. I can barely bring myself to eat or shower or brush my teeth (although I force myself to). I don't want to be around my children or my dh. And yesterday was so bad that I was actually nasty to my boss in front of other people and today when the proverbial poop hit the fan I cried. I feel like I am losing my mind. When I get my period it all goes away. :confused3

I did a google search for severe PMS hoping for some suggestions to help me cope until I see my doctor and got results about this PMDD. I had never heard of it but after looking at much on the information, well, it sounds like they are talking about me.

I was just wondering if anyone here could share their experiences with it? Was it tough to get a diagnoses? How are you being treated? Are you finding any success dealing with it? I've never been one to look online to diagnose myself but this was like looking in the mirror.

Thanks.

Jennifer,

I guess you didn't see my "perimenopause" thread yesterday? I know it's not the same as PMDD and I'm not even sure that I am in perimenopause, but I've been having similar issues as you are as I've gotten older. It's all due to flucuating hormones. How old are you?

No I missed your thread. I will do a search for it.

Ahhh, okay. Doubtful on the perimenopause. I am 42 but have been having ever-increasing, intense PMS since about age 38. Mine isn't strictly limited to moods, but I also get horrible fatigue and I sleep like the dead during this time. I am in a total fog for about a week, very slow at work, etc. I've noticed the irritability getting worse and, this month, it was a real doozy.
