Woman Overboard on Carnival

Maybe their railings are too low.

It's virtually impossible to "fall" overboard on a cruise ship. This isn't an issue of the railing height. All the overboard situations involve someone purposely jumping, someone being drunk and/or stupid by climbing up to lean over or sit on the railings, or unfortunately, someone being thrown overboard.

What is going on with this?? Carnival is been having some really bad luck lately. Without anymore details it is hard to determine if this is a security issue that needs to be addressed, or some unfortunate action on the cruiser's part.

It is likely too early for them to say what the cause was - if it was indeed suicide I think they tend to keep it brief due to respect and privacy concerns unless there is worry of foul play that needs to be dispelled.

I was on a 2002 cruise where a crew member jumped overboard and was (amazingly) rescued. It's given me an unhealthy interest in cruise overboard stories. I will have my fingers crossed that this latest person overboard is found. It sounds like the cruise line was aware of the incident as soon as it happened, so maybe she has a chance.

If it was the Bahamas, she wasn't in the middle of the ocean. More accurately, she was on the western edge of the ocean. I hope she's ok.

MUN
15 miles from shore might as well be the middle of the ocean for some people. From a height of 100 ft the horizon is only 12 miles away. So at about 15 miles, the shores of nassau would likely be not visible any more, giving the illusion of middle of the ocean, though you and I both know it isn't really.

No, I understand your point. 12 miles away from land is a long way in a body of water. I would rather stay on the ship.

I don't see she could have "accidentally" fallen. 2:30 am maybe too much to drink and a bad judgement call.

Yeah... I'm shaking my head at "accidentally" in this case and a case on our local NYC news (over the weekend there is this festival thing before the West Indian Day Parade, and every year someone (at least one) ends up dead because it gets violent - they made an arrest in one fatal shooting - a woman shot at point-blank range in the head - and the suspect apparently said it was an accidental shooting...I'm still trying to figure out how you accidentally shoot someone in the head at point-blank range.).

Saw this today and the article I read said that she fell but a witness claimed she jumped. I have to say she was either drunk and fooling around or jumped by choice. There is really no way to just fall over a cruise ship railing...at least the ones I have seen.

On our cruise years back we walked way to the front of the ship and imho we were All afraid of going over. Too windy, rail did not seem too high at all. We all felt unsafe and left the area.
Don't know what the situation was/is with this case, but prayers for the person/family. A tragedy!

Most of these overboard occurances seem to happen around 2am. Most of us that went "clubbing" when we were young know the kind of drama that can happen at that hour and what causes it. I assume the people that do this were suicidal to begin with and something just pushed them over the edge ..no pun intended. Very sad for the family and everyone on the cruise for that matter.
