Believe it or not, I saw a woman on Good Morning America talking to Charlie Gibson about her arrest for breast feeding while driving. Yes, breast feeding!!!!!! She actually stated some statute in Michigan that says a child does not have to be in a child-restraint seat if they are being breast-fed. Charlie said that he believed that meant anyone NOT driving! She continued on to say that she did nothing wrong and is counter-suing the police department. I can't believe someone could be so careless to subject her baby to what could be a horrible situation. Are we so totally out of control with our driving privileges or am I not to think this woman is really endangering her child?

I think the only way this woman could have made this bad situation any worse would be by talking on a cell phone while breastfeeding her baby while driving!

But in all seriousness, this woman is a moron! I hope she loses her lawsuit and gets her license suspended for a good long time. I'm surprised she wasn't also charged with child endangerment!

While I'm all for breastfeeding, I'm LOL on this one. Is she lacking the common sense gene? I hope that after she loses this lawsuit she has to pay any monies paid by the police department in defending this suit.

And people wonder why I think there should be a licence to breed!?

Did she ever hear of PULLING OVER to feed the baby?

What a dope!

The scary thing was I think she was ON her cell phone when the police officer pulled her over. They were showing the video from the police car on the news when I was in Florida and it looked like they pulled her over by a toll booth. When she got out of the car I am pretty sure I saw her on the cell phone AS she was being arrested.

She was actually driving on a suspended license. That was one of the charges she is facing. I agree that this woman is a complete idiot. She also said she didn't pull over for 3 miles because she didn't feel "safe". Whatever. I'm sure Michigan will correct its law pretty quick to state the driver can't be breastfeeding. She actually said in the interview that "if the lawmakers intended for it to only pertain to passengers, they would have stated that in the law." You just can't plan for all the stupidity in the world.

I saw an interview with her husband. He seems like real piece of work too. He bristled at the notion that breastfeeding while driving was unsafe. He also said that having her stop to feed the baby would have been a major inconvenience that would have added "a couple of hours" to her long trip. But my favorite one, if I heard him correctly, was that since they are from Ohio then Michigan law cannot be applied to her.

Just a bit of a clarification here... she is living in PA and was pulled over in Ohio. Michigan has a law about no restraints and since she is technically a resident of Michigan and Ohio has a law that exempts others from out of state by honoring their laws, that is how they are trying to get her off the hook... then again her husband is trying to take the fall for her for religious reasons.

Here's a full story with all the details since I am sure I will confuse many if I try to explain more

Some people are idiots. I have bf 4 kids and never been in a position that I couldnt stop and feed one. She could have fed her baby before she left the house.

I saw that idiot on GMA this morning also.
She said she weighed the risks to her child and thought they were not to much.
Since when do parents take a chance with their babies?
If she weighed the risks, then she knew there was a chance harm could come.
I hope the charges stick and that kook does some jail time!

oops..ya beat me to it...LOL...I couldn't find the darn addy...

Shouldnt her last name be Bonkers instead?? First I thought they were just stupid now after reading the article it appears they nuts also.

WOW! They are even more wacked than I thought! I heard the whole being in Ohio, but live in Michigan thing on tv, but I was getting ready for work and didn't catch all of it. I have the feeling the law he was quoting has more to do with if there is a difference in the age requirement regarding safety seats and for persons just traveling through the state.

I firmly believe that people have the right to worship however they choose regardless of what I may personally believe about it, BUT it really irks me when people use and manipulate their religeous beliefs to try to get out of obeying the law. That seems to be what these people are doing. Quite frankly after reading that article, based on this guys beliefs I can't believe he allowed her to even drive.

What I really want to know is if the child was EVER restrained or if she held him/her the entire time? If the child was restrained and she got the kid out of the seat, didn't she have to PULL OVER to do that? I just don't buy the whole adding 2 hours onto the trip. Good grief - how much does that kid eat? It never took me 2 hours to feed my kids with the breast or bottle!

There was an article on this in our paper. What is almost as astounding as her ignorance and stupidity is that the husband claims that in their religion she can't be punished or told to do things except by him, and he'll take this all the way to the supreme court as a freedom of religion case if he has to.
Whew!

Last I knew MI was rewriting the Law to fix this loop hole. I take it hasn't made it to law yet.

I looked up the silly law today online and states all children under the age of 4 need to be in a car seat the exception was while breastfeeding. I think they will be changing this real soon. I was born and raised in Michigan and breastfed 2 children....even if I would of known it was legal there is no way I would put my children in danger and all the people driving around me. Has it been mentioned how she got the baby out of the carseat and in her lap?
