Wolfgang Puck Question

Last time we visited WDW was in 2002 xmas/new years.

We ate Wolfgang Puck's twice. Once downstairs and once upstairs. We loved it!

I have not seen much on the boards about them anymore. I know that someone basically started running them and they went down hill, etc. I even heard Puck was considering to remove his name from them...

We are going in May. Should I even consider them for dining options?

Has the food gone that far down hill?

I remember especially liking the dining room upstairs!

My hubby, mother and I ate in the upstairs dining room last September, and it was fantastic! I'd read some not so great things about Puck's more formal restaurants in DTD before we left, and it left me a bit nervous about our upcoming experience.

We normally have a special meal during our trips at Jiko, but the service and portion sizes the last few visits to Jiko had left much desired in our opinions.

So we gave Puck's upstairs a shot, and it was amazing! The sommelier recommended several very nice wines we enjoyed with our dinner. DH had a fish (tuna or salmon), and Mom and I had had the lobster risotto. Talk about perfection. The year before, DH & I had a lobster risotto at Bistro de Paris in Epcot, and it didn't even hold a candle to what we had at Puck's.

I don't know about the downstairs section, but I know the upstairs dining room doesn't take any of the meal discount plans (DDP or DDE). That was actually one of the reasons we wanted to try it. We also want to try Blue Zoo :)

I am the one who reported that Puck threatened to have his name removed from the restaurant. (It's now owned by Levi Restaurants out of Chicago though Puck still has some involvement.) At the time, Puck told me he was working with the restaurant to raise the level of the food. I haven't seen any evidence that has happened, though I haven't been in a few months. May be time to give it a try again. If you go, would you please report back about your experience? Thanks.

Hi Scott! I know it is off topic, but I clicked on your link and enjoyed reading about the recent chef changes at Jiko and Cali Grill.

To the original poster, I am also trying to decide on whether to have a lunch reservation at Wolfgang Puck's, or to go elsewhere. I will watch this thread carefully and see what others have to say about it.

Any other comments? I still haven't made up my mind about Puck's...one way or the other. We are considering doing lunch at Mama Melrose at DHS instead of doing Wolfgang Pucks at DTD. What do you all think?

You must have gone back a few pages to get my post! haha

I've made ADR's for Wolfgang Puck's Dining Room.

It's not on the DDP and is smaller than the Cafe. We ate there a few years ago and enjoyed it.

We ate at the Cafe too and enjoyed it, but the upstairs is less "busy."

y husband works with several men that go every year and they always go there, so maybe it has not changed...We are going in may and are eating there.

I have read some good reviews of Wolfgang Puck Cafe so we are giving it a go as long as we can get an adr, which I don't think should present a problem.
Seems to me that most table service rest. in the world get both good and bad reviews, so I want to give this one a chance based on the menu choices.
Just got off the phone. Dining there May 23 for lunch!!

My hubby and I tried the dining room in October and we thought it was quite good. Here's a link to a review I just posted a few days ago if you'd like to take a look at it.

Puck's Upstairs Dining Room

Ok, you've helped me seal the deal. I kept going back and forth on whether to go "Upstairs" but I'm going to give it a shot based on your review. I was perusing the menu the other day and one of the meals that stood out was the risotto you had.

As always, thanks for the great review!:thumbsup2

We are big fans of upscale eateries and we ate upstairs at our last trip. I hated it!!! Food overcooked or undercooked; fairly empty restaurant and terrible service.

I was so disappointed. But, with that said, I usually give it another go before I make final judgment as there can be off nights.

I hope that your experience is better than ours!
