Wolfgang Puck Cafe appetizers on DP

The menu at Wolfgang Puck Cafe has numerous sushi options on the appetizer list, but they are a little more expensive than the standard appetizers you see at most restaurants.

Does anyone know if these are included on the dining plan, even though they are more expensive?

There is also a $34 filet mignon on the menu. This is a one TS credit meal, however. Do they put any limits on what you can order if you are on the dining plan?

We had dinner there on December 13th and were told that if we wanted the sushi, it would count as an entree and not as an appetizer. The only other menu restriction I remember is on the dessert menu. If I remember correctly, it was some kind of ice cream (or gelato) sampler. The dessert menu stated it wasn't on the plan.

BTW, we all really enjoyed our meal there.

I am pretty sure that $34 filet is off the menu now. It wasn't on there when we ate there last month. I believe they also have removed some desserts (a choc. fondue maybe). The sushi is handled as the above poster mentioned. There is another steak, a ribeye maybe thats on the menu, my husband had it and it was fabulous.

When we went in December, they told us we could order the sushi as an entree, but not as an appetizer. There weren't any other restrictions outside of that and the dessert options. There were still excellent desert choices available.

The Filet was not on the menu in December. We had the Wolf's steak ribeye, which had good flavor, but more fat than we like on our steaks.

DW had the blue lump crab cakes as an app. As the server acknowledged, it was very crabby. Not excessively breadded like many crab cakes. DW loved it!

Blame the DDP. A restaurant isn't going to include expensive menu choices when they're being paid a fixed price per DDP customer. DDP guests don't want upcharges or menu exclusions. The item is just eliminated from the menu for all guests.

I hate it when they do that. Why can't they just list an upcharge for an expensive item? I'd much rather have the option of a $10-15 upcharge than not have the item on the menu at all. This has happend at so many places now.

Why? Because we guests (in general) don't like up-charges and such. We react negatively to it, and that adversely affects the success of the program. To change that, Job One is to get the general public to start thinking about things differently, i.e., stop reacting negatively to what they term as, "nickel and diming," and instead recognize it at a good thing, driving the cost for something more closely to how much value is provided to a specific customer.

We'll be on the dining plan, I think we'll just plan on paying OOP for sushi and share it around the table. Really want to try the sushi there but don't want to use the entree from a TS credit for it.

The menu price isn't relevant. The question is how much the item costs the restaurant and how much money and time it takes to prepare the item. CG generally only allows one of the sushi appetizers as an entrée. Allowing sushi as an entrée is a compromise. The restaurant could decide to classify sushi as an specialty item and exclude it. The restaurant could also just drop it from the menu.

It's not really realistic to expect a $35+ entrée when the restaurant is only being paid around $26 for the entire meal.

I wouldn't object if a restaurant had an upcharge for a very limited number of signature menu items. Based on posts on DIS, very few guests share my opinion. Disney, and most guests, would rather items be deleted from the menu rather than be subjected to upcharges.

It was listed as an entree when I made my reservation. I think that if it is listed as an option on the menu it is not unrealistic to assume that you could order it.

I would just like to view a current menu to decide if we would enjoy the remaining offerings.

That menu is dated 6/06. I was there 10/06 and the filet was gone. I wouldn't expect that entree will be back and included in the dining plan.

Menus at many of the better restaurants change frequently, and perhaps even daily. Folks shouldn't rely on the online menus or menus from previous visits but rather use them strictly as general reference, subject to radical change.
