WoC-to dine or not?

There seems to be mixed reviews as to whether it is worth it to get the preferred seating dining pkg for WoC-at a relatively slow time (like this week), is it worth it?

First, be aware there is no preferred seating for WOC. There is preferred standing often called Preferred Dining (PD). There is no seating at all for WOC.

Actually I don't think the reviews are mixed on the value of PD. If you are doing PD with the thought of having a shorter wait for WOC or a better view, you won't. Your view may be a little better than you can have from the free FP, but not worth $40 per person.

The value of WOC PD is just having a nice dinner before and - this has marginal value - not having to get a FP earlier in the day.

We ordered the picnic meals for WOC in October 2010. I thought for the price the picnic meals were pretty good but it certainly did not get us a great viewing spot. We were off to the side and toward the back of the reserved standing areas. If we didn't have several strong adults to take turns holding my daughter who was 4 at the time she wouldn't have been able to see anything. The show is not to be missed but I don't think I would pay anything extra again.

I was wondering this as well. Thanks for asking. I'm thinking of getting the picnic box only because I'm not going to be at the park in the AM. Am I correct to think I will need the fastpass in order to see WOC?

The WoC Picnic provides the same fastpass as the ones you get early in the morning. Whereas the WoC Dining Package provides the preferred viewing area.
In both cases, however, your viewing experience is also directly related to when you showup to the queuing area before the show. However, in our case, we've shown up at the last moment for the Dining Area and had great viewing.

The value is primarily in the meal, followed by not having to show up early to pickup tickets. Things which have diminished value (for Dinner only), and apparently YMMV, is things such as, having to line up early, as well as the viewing spot itself.

My Dh and I spent a whole afternoon last week debating this subject! LOL! We came up with that we didn't think the price was worth the fast pass. How do the morning fast passes work. Are they a line up at this time fist come fist serve? Or is it colored? Any help would be great we are trying to decide which day we should choose to do WOC.

we did preferred dining but ended up sitting in the regular seating handicapped section (due to my sons GAC) so all we really needed was a regular fastpass,....damn, oh well it was a couple years ago anyways live and learn

I thought the sit-down World of Color restaurant dining (Ariel's in our case) was worth it.
We are two adults, so kids weren't an issue. We got a good, relaxing meal in an adult atmosphere and got to see the show with essentially no wait.
We had a very good view and had a pretty good amount of space around us in the preferred area. The non-preferred people were fairly packed in.

Having said that, I probably wouldn't do it again, simply because I thought World of Color was good to see once and it wouldn't be a priority for me to see it twice.

But if I were going for the first time? I would absolutely do the dinner again.
It's the "first class" way to do it. Everybody else is in Economy--and Economy seemed chaotic.

You would really benefit by reading the first post in this thread"

I thought it was worth it when there was actually a separate Preferred Dinning area. Now, not so much. If you have no other option to get a FP (perhaps because your schedule gets you into DCA really late, then maybe it's worth it, but that's the only scenario where it justifies the expense (imo).

Are you taking about a separate area at the restaurant or the WOC show?

Thank you HydroGuy! I'm going to send the link to my husband too. I was saying to him last night while I was making dinner. There is probably a whole sticky for it and we just aren't finding it! AWESOME!! :goodvibes

We're only going to be able to do one Sit down meal so we figured that the
WOC dining package might as well be it. We want to try Ariel's Grotto. We will also be celebrating our Anniversary. Those picnic lunchs do not look appealing.
