So I'm wondering what WOC option people seem to like best. I'm looking through the WOC super thread now for all the specific info, but id like to know peoples opinions on the various options.

Also, if I skip the food options and wait in a FP line for tickets, how long are the lines? And where are they located?

I'm of the school of thought that it's not worth doing the premium dining just to get a good spot just because you still have to line up early - so may as well save $40 and get a FP for free. The FP line is not long at all - a few minutes tops. The WOC FP's are distributed out of the Grizzly River Run machines.

The picnic is a good option if you can't get to the free FP machines in the morning, but if you can, I always think free is the way to go, since, again, no matter what option you choose, you must line up at least an hour before the show to ensure a good viewing spot.

If you get free FP what color are they? Or do they distribute blue yellow and red in order of first come first serve and when they run out? How do you guarantee all your party members will have same color? We'll be a group of 4 adults.

Also for the free FP- how do you select a show time? Say if you wanted to watch the second showing?

It covers those questions in the superthread you said you've started reading. They are distributed first come, first serve. So, when the park opens, first go the blue FP's for the first show, then the yellow, then the red. When all the FP's are gone for the first show, then blue for the second show is distributed followed by yellow, then read. If you want the second show, you'd have to come back later in the morning or early in the afternoon and ask the CM if they are distributing the second show's passes yet. If you want to guarantee the second show without the fuss, order a picnic for the second show. Picnics include FP's that are either blue or yellow.

As far as making sure everyone is together - the CM's will make sure that only one person from each party waits in line with the whole group's tickets. They will help that person at the machines, and if you notice that one person in your group did not get the same color, tell them immediately and they can remedy the situation. They are very helpful.

We just got back today, and decided to skip our reservations for the dinner. The more we thought about it, the more paying so much to MAYBE get a good spot just didn't make sense for us.

So we ended up getting the fast passes for the second show (10:15), and we got the yellow section. We lined up over by Grizzly River Rapids, right where you get the FP for the show. The line was really long, but we managed to get there about a half hour early and got right in front of the line. We had our fast passes out and ready and rushed down and got a rail spot. It was really a spectacular show, and I'm soooo happy we skipped the dinner because in the end you still have to deal with lines and rushing to get the rail spots anyway. Without the rail spot I doubt we would have been able to see as much, lots of people with kids on their shoulders or just tall in general.

We just went by the FP machines in the afternoon (say around 2pm) and easily got FP's. We liked doing the second show, seems like you don't need to line up QUITE as early for it.

What exactly is the yellow fire hydrant spot? I keep seeing it mentioned, but not in detail

A year ago when the WOC first started, I was able to try out many spots to see the which was best. I discovered that at the very back of the BLUE section was a Yellow Hydrant that if you arrived late you could have a good spot, next to the rail, with nobody in front of you. When people asked, I documented this and it was our Secret Spot. There are a a few better spots, or I find the very front WET zones a lot of fun. For most good spots you need to arrive very early and fight off the crowd for an hour. This avoids most of the hastle, and you saved a lot of time.

Now the spot is well known, and on some nights people will camp out early at my Secret Spot. When they open the BLUE area they direct everyone to the front lower area. Instead, when they take your BLUE Fastpass take one step forward, turn right three steps, and you are there.

It gives you this view overlooking the edge of the exclusive VIP section. [/B

If you purchase a picnic lunch option, can you select the seating color as well as the show time? Or just the show time?

I have seen WOC by collecting a FP first thing in the morning, and with a picnic lunch. I preferred the picnic lunch BY FAR and this is why:

The waiting at the entrance, rushing through turnstyles, rushing to GRR, rushing to get a FP (all while getting pushed around by other mad rushers) made me really anxious. I SO SO SO wanted a Blue FP, so I knew I needed to be there first thing. It was a really nerve-wracking experience and that left me on edge for a good while after. There's also the fact that you are going to have to go through a similar sort of rush-rush-push-push situation later that night too.

The 2nd time I saw WOC I pre-ordered the picnics. I wanted the 2nd show, so I reserved those. To better ensure a blue FP, I collected the picnics as soon as I could(11:30am) and had an early lunch. This way, I could arrive at DCA after seeing DL for the morning, not have to waste time waiting in line before the park opened, and totally skip the pushing and shoving for the morning. We got our blue FPs, the picnic was yummy(I had the kids lunchbox classic), and we only had one crazy line to stand in for WOC. All of those reasons made it worth the 13.99(AP price) for me.

Maybe it's just me, but I don't think rushing for the FPs when the park first opens is all that necessary. There are good viewing spots in ALL of the sections, so why be concerned about that? I prefer waiting until the FastPasses for the second show are being distributed (since it's less crowded) and getting those. We usually show up to the FP line around 1 pm and have no issue.

The IMPORTANT thing is lining up early for return. In my opinion, at least.
