WOC FP vs Dining Package

Hi everyone,

This is our first trip BTW:
So we originally assumed we were doing the dining package at Carthay. After discussing, we then thought we'd just get a FP and still eat at Carthay because the salad/dessert really didn't intrigue us, so we'd rather just skip the dessert and salad and get appetizers/drinks with our dinner if we're going to pay that much after we learned we could get a FP and it would still allow us to get FPs throughout the day. My question is: is the FP the same type of reserved room as the dining package and the other can you get a FP during MM. I'm seeing conflicted things, some say you can, some say you have to wait till park officially opens. Thirdly, is this smart? We really do want to eat at Carthay, we would love to just have other things. Thanks everyone

To answer your first question: no, the regular FP areas (blue and yellow) are not the same as the Preferred Dining FP areas (WCT & Ariel's and CCR). Blue FP is along the bridge and part of the left main viewing area (facing the water). Yellow FP is from right of center all the way to the far right edge of the water. (Look at the map on the first page of the WOC Superthread to see what I'm talking about.) Preferred Dining areas are in the center: WCT and Ariel's up front by the water and CCR further back. The WOC Dessert Party section is directly to the left of the CCR section. While you can get very good viewing in the regular sections if you are willing to invest the time waiting in line, the PD FP sections are the most central. The Dessert Party section is the only one that provides actual chairs, other than the HC and VIP benches. As for your second question: I don't know if you can get a WOC FP during EMH (MM is only at DL), but it really doesn't matter. WOC FPs are available into the afternoon or later most days.
