WOC Dining questions

We definitely want to do WOC dining for the seating options. Is there a restaurant that gives you the best seats? I only see Wine Country Trattoria and Carthay Circle, as well as the picnic. Which is the best for the best seats? Does it matter?

I'd love to go to Wine Country Trattoria. But from what I can tell, Wine Country Trattoria is not really a kid-friendly restaurant. Is this the case? From what I see online, I can't imagine taking my 8 & 9 year old boys there. And I don't want to have those disruptive kids ruining couples' night out!

Any insight is appreciated. The goal is to get the best seats, with minimal waiting and dinner included. Thanks!!!

I'm a little far removed from this, as I haven't been following WOC dining very closely since Carthay opened. I'm sure someone else will be along shortly, but I wanted to make sure you knew that there are no SEATS for World of Color. It is standing room only. When you book a "dining package", you don't actually watch the show while eating or anything like that. You eat your dinner, then they give you a ticket to get into the viewing area later that night.

I *thought* I read that the Carthay Circle viewing area is better than the WCT one (and the WCT dinner one is better than the WCT lunch one), but I'll need somebody to come back and comment for you.

There are no seats. It is all standing. Apparently Carthay Circle has the best viewing area with a shorter wait, but if you think Wine Country Trattoria doesn't seem kid friendly, then Carthay Circle definitely won't be. You should check out the World of Color Superthread.

Thanks for the input. I'm not so worried about keeping my kids entertained as I am about disrupting others who may be going to these restaurants sans kids. In WDW, we view some restaurants as "adult" restaurants that don't have too many kids. When we visit those restaurants we utilize the kids babysitting options at the resorts. The issue here is that we likely won't be doing so for a WOC show. The whole point is for the kids to see the show and if we can get better viewing (thanks for pointing out no seats!) with a dinner, we will do that. I just don't want to be the only family in these restaurants with kids!

You for sure won't be the only ones with kids. The restaurants have kid's menus... that means kids go there lol. Napa Rose is something I would consider more of a "grown up" restaurant, and even they have a kids menu, but that's the only one of the caliber that I can't think of...Maybe Steakhouse 55.

If your kiddos are short (assuming you're not toting around a 6'3" child), then no matter WHERE you get your ticket, be it through a dining package or for free from the machines, keep in mind that you need to line up early if you want a good spot, which will be by the rails. For general viewing, that means about an hour before the show starts. For the dining packages, I'd still recommend getting there as soon as you can when they open the area to make sure you get a good spot. If you haven't already, do as a PP suggested and read the superthread: http://disboards.com/showthread.php?t=2542717

Thanks for that insight! Given we are 5'2" and 5'5", and our 9 year old is almost as tall as us, we need to be as far front and center as possible!!! I'm still just trying to adjust to the difference between planning a WDW vs. DL trip. But I'm SO excited to give it a try.

I thought Carthay Circle was kid friendly enough. We were seated in the Hollywood room and the adults in there were FAR louder than my 4 kids (put together lol). I think the menu is more kid friendly as well (regardless of restaurant atmosphere, I wouldn't take my kids to WCT because of the menu...um, or myself, I don't like Italian lol).

You can look at the last 2-3 pages of the WOC Superthread for some recent info on viewing areas. When I was there on 8/1, I was told even though I dined at CCT, I was welcome to choose a spot in the WCT area (not sure if it works the other way).

I've been doing crazy research on this topic already, planning for my family's trip in November. This is what I've gotten out of the questions I myself have posted, and information I have read from all over the boards, and internet blogs:

Glad someone else clarified, that there are no "seats". It's all standing room.

The WOC dining packages are available at WCT & Carthay Circle. WCT is a prix fixe menu (and they offer a kid's version). Carthay requires that every one must order one entree, AND an appetizer or dessert. This includes kids. Kids must order a kids entree and kids dessert, or kids appetizer.

Both restaurants will give you a WOC fast pass for the "reserved viewing" area.

You still should arrive early (about 45 min before show time), to get a great place to view the show.

I agree, both restaurants are a little more high end, but I'll be taking my fam to Carthay in November for the WOC package for the same reason, so we can all see! And our kids are DD4, DD5, and DS1. My kids are very good eaters, and behave pretty well all around, they don't ever have melt downs and they're young; so I'm sure your kids will be just fine. Everyone expects children to be at any restaurant at any Disney park... I'm sure it won't be your children to disrupt anyone. ;)

Does anyone know if Carthay Circle gives the same FP for lunch and dinner, or are they different?

Same...They typically break it down by Lunch = 1st show - Dinner = 2nd show. If the times do not work for you, People have reported being able to get the FP of the showtime of their choice when they ask.
