WOC dining package - worth it for our situation?

Let me explain......

DH and I are visiting DLR for 2.5 days, this is our first trip (WDW vets), and we really would like to experience as much as possible. I absolutely want to see WOC, but my fear is we will have to line up EARLY to get a good viewing spot, thus losing precious park time.

So my thought is to do the WOC dining package, that way we have a guaranteed spot and we dont need to waste park time getting a spot. I dont think I want to do the picnic package based on reviews I have read, but rather the actual sit down meal.

My question is considering our priorities of maximizing park time and still being able to see WOC - would you suggest it is worth it to do the dining package? Or is there a better suggestion?

Also - I am used to commando WDW dining where reservations must be made 6 months out.......lol :rotfl:

So, when the opporunity opens up to book the dining package (60 days out right?) do I have to call first thing that morning? Or is it not as popular as say......Le Cellier at Epcot?

Thanks!

when you get the dinner, you don't eat dinner while watching WOC, you get FP to a special section. Thats why they offer a lunch version too.

I understand that, I guess my question is more about whether or not the dining package will save us any time waiting prior to the show? Or if we will have to wait the same amount of time whether or not we have a guaranteed viewing area through the dining package.

You are thinking about WOC dining the wrong way. It will not save you time and might take more time. The purpose is to get into the preferred center section, have a good meal, and have a different and calmer place to line up than the other sections.

If you have not done so read the OP in this thread: "World of Color Superthread" www.disboards.com/showthread.php?p=37986447

Just ate at Le Cellier last week myself! Great food! And WOC dining is not as popular. But if you can reserve it 2 months in advance do it to get a good time slot. You do not want the dining time too close to the show time. I would suggest a dining time at least three hours (maybe 3.5 hours) before the show to allow you to dine in a relaxing way over 75-90 minutes and then still have time to get in line for a coveted WOC front rail spot. :)

Now to your real question. Is it worth it? With 2.5 days I would say a definite maybe. ;) You need to eat dinner somewhere. So this is as good a choice as any. But more than any Disney show I have seen at any of the four major resorts in the world, the WOC show experience is extremely sensitive to your viewing spot. If you are willing to learn the best spots and willing to put in the time and effort to get those spots, WOC is totally worth it. On a day trip probably not. Over 2.5 days, yes. ::yes::

Thanks - I would like to be able to plan a reservation for the day we get there, but I need to figure out if WOC will be playing that day. We will be arriving in Anaheim at about noon on Wednesday August 24 and it would be great if we could get to DCA, catch a couple of rides, plan an early seating dinner and catch WOC that evening. Then the next 2 days can be full on park mode. :goodvibes I need to start planning out our touring plan so that I can make sure we catch what we want in our short amount of time.

It is really hard to plan a trip to DLR after many visits to WDW. It is like I am an overwhelmed newbie all over again - the resorts are so different! :lmao:

In August, chances are good that WOC will be playing every night, and probably twice a night. But no guarantees.

Dining is much, much more relaxed at DLR than at WDW. Yes, if you know your schedule, it would be good to reserve at 60 days. But you'll probably have no problems getting a reservation even at two weeks beforehand.

Lastly, Hydroguy doesn't like to blow his own horn, but he's written the definitive DLR Guide for WDW Vets. Definitely read it, it's golden.

As GBob said, WOC will be showing in August probably twice a night. See the first show. Probably at 9PM. Get dining for 5:30. Go to the WOC queue by 7:30 at the latest. Most people prefer Ariel's Grotto over Wine Country Tratorria, but they are both good choices.

I think your plan for the first half day is perfect. That is what I would do. WOC will get you in the DLR spirit and Disney spirit real fast! :thumbsup2

Thank you so much for your help! I think I am going to go with that plan for our first day, as long as the WOC schedule works out that way. I like HydroGuy's plan for dinner time.

Thanks again!

I agree with all said. We ate at Wine Country Trattoria and found it very good, lovely surroundings (inside) and great service. Yes, we lined up early for our section but easily got the rail. I also brought a glass of wine into the section from the wine and beer bar that is by WCT and really enjoyed sipping that while waiting and watching. It is very well worth it..excellent show and nothing like it anywhere else.
