yet another question... Soooo I've been reading exhaustively on this- and want to verify from those who've done it.... are the plates enough snacks/desserts that you truly don't need a big dinner earlier? I was reading that there are desserts plus cheese, bread, fruit etc served.... It's a way of explaining our dining choices to my group (and I'm basing it all on reports from here) i.e.- we can just grab a snack for dinner somewhere cs,b/c our DP will have enough foods to fill us up later on at 8:30 kind of thinking....(?) right? wrong?

I wouldn't say it's loads especially if men attending
You could maybe have "dinner" at 4 so had meal but still room for dessert plate

If I'm hungry for dinner at 6:00, there's no amount of dessert, cheese and fruit that you can feed me at 8:30 to make up for having a snack and waiting 2.5 hours. Especially ift hat 2.5 hours involves walking around a theme park and waiting in lines.

We had food about 5pm (plaza gardens in mk?) and eat the dessert

Personally for us it was more about the view and seating as we knew the plate wasn't huge

We were amazed how many people left the food

We did it for the nice seated viewing area. Much of the food did not appeal to us. I'm not sure what their fixation is with macaroons. My daughter thought the grapes were a little squishy. But overall it was a really lovely experience.

ohhhhh thaks for the pics! I think my spouse would agree about that 2.5 hours and still being hungry lol

I would say a light dinner at 4 or 5 would be your best bet. I tried the snack route and I was absolutely starving by the time of the party and the plate, while it looks like a lot, is not very much protein (maybe the equivalent of 3 bites) and even someone who is not at all picky about dessert like me, wasn't willing to eat everything on the plate. If I had eaten a dinner that was on the lighter side but still a dinner, I don't think I would have eaten more or less than of my desert plate. Maybe a big late lunch and a snack. But honestly, if I wasn't trying to save money, I would eat a regular dinner and still enjoy the dessert party. I sort of felt like I messed up my day just trying to make sure I didn't "waste" the dessert party food.

Is this the amount of food is it for the whole table?
The photo shows the menu of what is on each person's plate. The food photo is everything on the menu. Everything on the menu is bite sized. The bread basket shown is for the whole table.

Yes, I agree with all reply above : )
The dessert plates were not as big as I was expecting after reading all the reviews here.
It was adequate for sure but for us, I think we had dinner around 4.30 - 5 pm for the 9pm show, I'm glad we'd done that or everyone would have been starving.
I'd told our group of 8 - don't have a big dinner, the DP servings are huge - but I didn't really find that. Adequate yes, huge no IMHO.
None of us took any away 'to go' but it's likely not everyone will like everything on the plate anyway.
Still, we had a great time and enjoyed the DP - have fun!

My partner and I shared some lobster nachos and had some drinks around 5 or 6, and I was surprised to find we were too full to eat most of the dessert plate later that night. However, we went during a warm time and I find that between the heat and activity of walking around the parks, I don't have too much of an appetite throughout the day at Disneyland. But I was still surprised how little of the food we wound up eating because my partner is big on food. I considered the nachos a snack since we shared, but it was pretty big so you could count that as a light dinner, and we only had room for little tastes of each dessert.

Beyond quantity of food, I would consider what comes with the dessert party and whether you want that to be your main meal. There's some bread and cheese, but the vast majority of what you're offered is very sweet. If I were hungry for dinner and using this as my main meal, I think I'd feel a little sick eating all those sweets on an empty stomach. The blue drink they offer you is also very sweet.

My group ate an early dinner at Ariels Grotto around 4:30 and we were still too full to really enjoy our plates. That includes 3 large, grown men. If you're going to eat, I'd eat early and light!

My hubby and I split a meal at Paradise Garden Grill (lemon oregano chicken skewer) around 5 or 6pm and then went to the DP. We both liked everything on the plate and ate our fill but I still had a couple bites of various sweets left that I just absolutely could not finish. Hubby has a HUGE appetite and he barely finished his plate too - and he ate a lot less of the bread than I did too. We found the portions to be quite generous!

We split a shrimp po-boy meal at French Market (DL) an hour or so before because I knew the plate would be heavy on sweets. I thought the portions were generous and we ended up taking a to-go box back to our room. I'm not a huge sweets person so I ate cheese/bread and maybe one dessert (in addition to 2 of the blue vodka things - which are also sweet). Our tablemates ate/drank very little and left it all behind.

It was not about the food for us but the food/drink offered was a nice touch. If your show is late, I would definitely grab something light prior. If it's early (ours was 815, which is our normal meal time), you may be okay treating this as a first course and eating after.

I had a normal lunch around 1:30, and then was the perfect amount of hungry for a 7:30 dessert party. The dessert plate was more than enough for me, and I didn't feel hungry before bed time.

My husband and I split the lobster nachos at Cove Bar about an hour before the dessert party. It was perfect.

Yes - a light dinner or heavy snack before should be just fine. The only obstacle is whether or not you like the desserts. Im a lover of almost all sweets, but the grapes, cheese and breadsticks were the best part for me (and my children). The desserts ranged from ok, to really not very good at all.....
