I was upgraded from PO-FQ to WL woodsview, but was also offered AKL standard view. I went with WL because of the boat and beach and because it was close to MK. After looking at pictures --- Did I make the right decision? I have two boys 4 and 7, a daughter that is almost 2. So the pools is important. I wasn't sure about a standard view at AKL, if you look out at the parking lot is it worth it? Plus being so far out? For us this is a once in a life time change to stay at either resort, due to the low rate offered since we were relocated. So any advice would be appriecated. Thanks!

I've never stayed at AKL but with the ages of your children I would keep the WL. With all that you mentiond plus you can rent bikes and go to FW petting zoo and pony rides. Teh WL pool is nice for that age. We did it at Christmas one year. Its up there on my list as a refugee too. The Woods view is nice and we could see the ELP from our balcony as it headed towards FW. Not a great view but very peaceful. Will your room have bunkbeds?

I think you made a good decision. You will love the Wilderness Lodge. It's theming and convenient location make it my favorite Disney Resort.

You should consider reserving a few hours during your trip to visit the Animal Kingdom Lodge. See the animals, tour the lobby and maybe have dinner at Boma or a snack at the Mara. AKL is a beautiful place and the attention to detail is stunning.

I requested bunk beds, yes. What is the best requests for woodview? I have heard MK side and looking over the otter pond, I have also heard good and bad things about having your room open up into the lobby. I don't want a room with a closed balcony, because I do not want my children on chairs trying to look out. So does that mean I want 5th floor or lower? I believe the court yard view is more??? I also don't want a room a mile away, although I heard really bad things about rooms near the stair well-- due to noice. I guess it sounds like I want everything and I don't want it to sound that way. I just don't want the worsed possible room. Thanks Again, Chris

Yes, a courtyard view is more. In order of cost, it's standard, woodsview, courtyard view.

Someone can correct me if I'm wrong, but as I recall from when we were there, the only "closed" balconies were the dormer style on the concierge level.

I can't help you with a particular woodsview, we had a courtyard view. But, I can tell you that part of the 5th floor is smoking and the 7th floor (highest) is concierge. Our room was on the 5th floor, overlooking the lobby and we loved it. I had no problems at all with the noise, but if you want very quiet before 9pm or so, you probably wouldn't want to overlook the lobby.

I'm not at all sure that there are any woodsview that overlook the lobby. There may be, but I thought there were only standard and a very few courtyard views. If you are overlooking the lobby, you're going to be quite a distance from the pool.

Keep in mind that bunkbeds are very limited and extremely popular, so you might want to consider that when making other requests.

Hi Momtothree.....

I agree with others who have posted to your question. While I have only stayed in a Savannah view at AKL and a Courtyard view at WL, I think your children will enjoy the WL theme, location, pool, and atmosphere.

I also agree with Lori concerning the suggestion that you visit AKL to see the resort, animals, pool, and to experience the atmosphere. A truly beautiful and unique resort!

A true WIN- WIN decision!

Have a great time!

On the WL faq thread, there is lots of info on the rooms and views among other good stuff! This is one of the posts I copied. I've read that only the woods view rooms have a possibility of seeing MK. And many people like the view of the otter pond.

"We were assigned room 6012. We had bunkbeds, and my guys just loved them. This room overlooks the otter pond to the left, the lake to the right and MK straight ahead. We could see the monorails going by, and the castle in the distance. We could just make out the castle through the trees during the day, but at night we had a clear view. We sat on our balcony each night and watched the castle change colors. "

Granted you should not ask for a specific room, but you could request a view of MK and the otter pond. And you can always request a different room when you arrive if you don't like the room you are assigned.
