WL Villas Studio Rooms

We just returned Thursday from our first stay at VWL, we had 3 studios- 2 on 3rd floor and 1-on the 5th. All 3 of our rooms stated how quiet it was at night.
As far as space goes, we are a family of 4 and found the new pull out couches worked great. The kids (10 and 7) said it was the most comfortable pull out they had slept on.
To be fair, we weren't in the room very much- the parks kept us going long hours most days but overall we were really pleased.

We are a family of 4 with a 20 yr old and 15 yr old DDs and we always stay in the studios - they are perfect for us. I do not want to cook, we wouldn't stay in 2 rooms in a regular resort/hotel so we are used to being together. The trip down to the laundry room is not a big deal. I love to either work out at Sturdy Branches, or curl up with a book in the Iron Spike Room - I know this is not the real name anymore but it will always be Iron Spike room to me.

For 3 of you - I would say a studio is perfect - unless of course you really want that full kitchen and washer and dryer.

Well, the only request I made when booking my trip was to not get any studio ending in the numbers 60 or 62 and also requested a top floor. Any thing else I should have done or should this meet my quiet needs?

Oh yeah, one other thing. Where can I find a floorplan for the VWL?

Yeah, I read that. I requested to be close to the elevator, so as to at least circumvent the dreaded dumpster view! Hope it works!

disney refer it to be called a service building - anyway that truck arriving is probably the loudest thing at VWL - the rest is pretty quiet.

We just returned from VWL. The first night we were in a studio, the next two were in a one bedroom. Both rooms were very quiet. Studio on the
4th floor at the end of a Looong hallway! No more complaining about BWVs hallways! The 1 BR was on the 5th floor.

It is a beautiful resort, first time there...we usually are at OKW or BWV, so we had challenges getting around the area! Especially with the bus situation

It did not seem crowded at all, but we were told that the Resort was at 100%

Can you elaborate? Did the busses take a long time? Was it hard to actually get around VWL? How about the camp grounds?

Well, The buses took a while...All in all, it took us about 2 hours to get from VWL to SSR to visit the sales office on Sunday

We then, that night, took a bus from Epcot to VWL...but we were unfamiliar with the area, it was dark, and the driver never called out the names of the bus stops. We ended up in Fort Wilderness, and told to get on the "Orange Settlement bus" Boy, that Campground is Huge! Plus, the temp was in the 40s. It was freezing!

We found that it was better to take the boat to Magic Kingdom and the Hotels in that area. We could also use the monorail to go to Epcot.

since VWL is either the first or last stop - depending upon the theme park - they don't generally - guess since it is so different they expect you to know.

loved the buses - almost best bus service - now sometimes they did share with the campground and yes it is definitely big. Epcot took around 10 minutes, MK less than 5 minutes, didn't go to studios or ak - DD was pain (as always) - took over an hour

We thought the bus service at both VWL and AKV was excellent! Barely any waits! Convenient (1 stop). Boat between VWL and MK was OK...went in January - it was a little nippy a couple of times....decided the buses were warmer!:goodvibes We much prefer the one-stop idea vs the multiple stops like at OKW! So-o much faster!:thumbsup2

So do they actually yell out "VWL" when they get to it? I had plans to go to DTD one evening....maybe I can schedule the DVC van and get a tour of BLT? That might be quicker.....:teeth:

no - they didn't even say wilderness lodge. or didn't when I was there.

Sorry to sound so uninformed, this will be my first trip to the VWL. So then I need to be physically watching out the window to see when we are approaching VWL?

I am not the brightest star in the sky but we had no problems at all. I actually don't remember going to / thru the campground but I remember the bus driver announcing SOMETHING... The lodge is unmistakeable - I don't think you'll have anything to worry about. Disney would not have a system that didn't work and caused confusion.

When we visited last Dec. I thought they had the automated messages going on. Whenever we were approaching WL the music changed to lodge music and it would start talking about it. Has that changed?

However, I agree that since there is only one stop they probably don't think about announcing it like they would at POR, OKW, SSR or any of the other places that have multiple stops and you need to know which one they are at. We've never had a problem during our visits.

if you went thru the campground you would know it - lots of stops and the bus driver has to say - because those stops look just alike.

No. the driver that we had did not announce VWL, and there was no prerecorded announcements on that bus; when we took the bus another time, the recording was on.

We took the DVC van back after we went to SSR, and our Guide said that we should have called and they would have sent the van. I had spoken to the CM at the DVC desk at VWL earlier and he made no mention of the van, just told us the best way to get to SSR.
