We are going to stay at the Wilderness Lodge for the first time in January. I was wondering if anyone knows if it is possible to upgrade to concierge at check in. I am not looking for a free upgrade, but was hoping to be offered an upgrade for less than a rack rate difference. Also, does anything factor in to being able to upgrade (for example if you book a standard view room can you only upgrade one level?). Thanks in advance for any help you can give me!!!

Just ask to be upgraded to Concierge and they will tell you the amount based on your original room rate. I upgraded in May for $55 per night from a standard ($124/night).

For Courtyard and Woods view I think the upgrade rate is as low as $35/night

We added concierge access to a deluxe room for $35 at check-in last time we stayed. Does anyone know how likely it is that an access upgrade would be available in December? We have tentatively reserved 2 concierge rooms for Dec 19-23. It is almost $100 per night per room less to get a courtyard, but with 4 kids I really enjoy the access to breakfast, drinks and snacks. Is it worth risking an upgrade or should I take a bird in hand?

We upgraded at checkin ($35 from courtyard) but I didn't like any of the available concierge level rooms(worse view,no bunk beds etc) so we kept our 5th floor room and added concierge privileges to our key. I even asked for turn down service and we had that given to us too. So, the only difference was we had to ride the elevator down to get food but that was no big deal at all.

I highly recommend the concierge level as an checkin upgrade but I'm not sure it is worth the $100 difference beforehand.

But, if they say that you can't upgrade because concierge is full you might ask to keep your room and just add privileges. I'm sure that they have a maximum number of people that they let upgrade to Concierge because they wouldn't be able to handle the food requirements for everyone in the lodge . But, I think that even if the concierge level is full afew people might be able to upgrade.

Don't expect that the concierge upgrade will be available at check-in. As I say with everything else here- If you really, really want it, pay for it. That way you KNOW you are getting what you want!! :D If you don't have your heart set on it, give it a shot at check-in....the price may have changed, or it may not be offered at all, but who knows unless you ask!

To answer another poster's question- yes, people have been turned down for access. If the floor is occupied to capacity it becomes a question of providing the best guest service possible, so there is less of a chance of being able to get to the floor.

Thanks. I think I will keep my concierge ressies and rest easy (but with fewer dollars in my pocket!)

Thanks for all the great info!!! I can't wait for my first stay at the WL!!:D

Couple more questions about this. If I'm going to request the conceirge level am I best not to request anything from the room requester earlier. Will it hurt my chances??

Also, we are taking my mom for her 60th birthday with separate rooms can I get two so will it be huge for her??

What size beds are they??

And do I understand breakfast and drinks are included in the room price??

Thanks for the help leave in 6 days!!!:Pinkbounc

Nothing will hurt your chances to upgrade to Concierge unless they are full. At check-in it is just an issue of is there space available.

check here for a pretty detailed summary of what food/drink is available (included) at concierge

also if you don't see something you want - just ask and they might have it in the back (eg. yogurt, beer, chocolate milk)
