WL Transportation - How Bad Is It?

I keep hearing about how awful the bus service is at WL and I'm a little bit scared. We don't intend to rent a car for our trip and just rely on Disney transportation. Our one other stay on property was at AKL and the buses were amazing. What did you think of the bus transportation at WL and what can we expect?

My DW and I have stayed at WL several times and think the bus service is very good. Our expectations are quite different than other guests -- we tend to be more laid-back about our vacation so if we have to wait for a 2nd bus or if the bus we are on makes a few additional stops on the way to the park, we don't really care. We just sit back and enjoy the ride & the scenery.

The best part about going to the WL bus stop is the CM who greets everyone with "Where are you kids going today?" What a great way to start a Disney day! :teeth:

We stayed at the WL last summer and no problems with the busses. WL was WNDERFUL-you will enjoy it:Pinkbounc

I don't understand, why do you think it's "bad"?

We had the most wonderful transportation last Sept. There are so many options.

You have the large boat to MK & FW.

The small boat to CR & FW.

The direct bus to TTC, which is just steps away from the Poly.

You've got buses everywhere else.

I agree we have never had to wait very long for a bus or boat. It's always been good.

Never had a problem with the WL buses, but the ferry got pretty crowded when leaving WL to go to FW. It was a nice ferry ride over, but it kinda stunk to have to pick up FW guests and then head back to MK. I think the ferry ride took up more time than the actual bus. Then there was this one night coming back from MK that we waited 5 ferrys to get back to WL. I always thought that FW should have their very own ferry.

My DW and I stayed at the WL last year for our honeymoon. Even though I read a lot of negative comments on the transportation, we chose to stay there. We were glad we didn't follow the advice of some members. The transportation was great. Never an issue. Our longest wait was about 10 minutes. I highly recommend staying at this beautiful resort! :smooth:

We were there the first week in September and never had a bit of trouble. It is a slow time of year, so that might have helped, too. We took the boat to the MK every morning and then went to other parks from there or back to the MK (DD6 thinks that is the ONLY place to be princess: ). Of course, that is my DH and my favorite park too, so I guess that works out! We used the buses to go to BB, AK and Epcot and had no troubles at all.

Thank you all so much. I have read multiple negative reviews of the bus service in this forum and I was beginning to wonder if we'd made a mistake with our reservation at VWL. We're going in September and I think that definitely will help.

Always keep in mind that great service to one person can also be horrible service to another. Everyone has thier own opinions on things, and different situations can effect those opinions.

we 're going to WL in July. Does anyone know if there's a bus from WL to Poly, or is the Poly close enough to the TTC for us to take the Bus to TTC and walk to Poly? Also, what time do the boats start running? Thanks - the input from these boards is priceless!!

There is a direct bus from the WL to the TTC. The Poly is right next door to the TTC. If you don't want to walk it, you can hop the monorail for one stop.

The small boat (WL/CR/FW) runs 7am - 10pm).
The larger starts about 1/2 hour before MK opens, and stops about an hour after MK closes.

Except for resorts that share buses, there's no resort-to-resort bus routes. To get from WL to the Poly, you'd need to take the TTC bus from WL and then make the 5 minute walk to the Poly (unless you want to wait for a bus to the Poly). However, if the bus to the TTC is shared with FW, it may be quicker to take the launch boat to the CR and then ride the monorail over to the Poly.

We were just there. We didn't have any bus service problems, but a couple of times the boats took a really long time.

One trick that we discovered - the buses to the TTC were very reliable and fast. From the TTC, it was a quick monorail to MK resorts, MK or Epcot.

There are no buses from the WL to the Poly. There is however a bus from WL to the TTC. From there, one can walk over to the Poly, or take the Monorail. Coming back, you can walk or take the Monorail all the way around to the TTC, and then catch the bus to WL. Or you can stop off at the MK and catch the boat there.
