WL Room Location

I've been told before that with little kids there are 'better' and 'not so great' room locations at WL if you have little ones with you (in terms of it being a long walk to the lobby, etc.) We have Woods View reserved but CRO let me request something close to the lobby (I realize we probably won't have much of a view to begin with since we're not courtyard so it didn't really matter much). Problem is that according to what I've seen Woods View is 4th floor and up.

Unless it's a huge and tiring walk I don't really care much what room or location we're in. We'll be tired sure, but we'll take the boat back from MK and a taxi or bus back from other parks--not like we're hoofin' it back on our own!

Any recommedations for a family with a Woods View reservation on what floor to ask for or avoid? Or is it an outrightly ridiculous question:confused3

Thank you ! And hey, I'm from Long Island :) Riverhead to be exact.

The resort is U shaped. I've been on both sides..and the inside and outer side of the U. I prefer what they call a woods view..only it's a view of the Wilderness Lodge Villas. Used to be woods before the Villas were built. Villas are lovely to look at. This particular view overlooks the bike/walking path that connects the resorts and the campground. Our last visit we were upgraded and had a view of the Villa pool. I enjoy this view as it is quiet..but not buggy(like one woods view we had)...also has enough activity to do a bit of people watching without feeling as if we were on display..which is why we didn't care for the Courtyard view. Felt as if the folks on the other side of the U can look right in your room..as you can look into theirs. I don't honestly think having little ones that any room is going to be too far for them to walk. We've visited the Lodge since it's opening and I'm thinking that's got to be over 12 years now..and our kids were little when we started going. My youngest was four at the time..and he will be 16 this summer...they still love the Lodge. You can't go wrong with any room really. I do think that as mentioned the lobby rooms while close to the lobby..would be a bit noisier as there is quite a bit of activity all the time.

I would request a room on the west side looking at the otter pond, but closer the lobby. There is an elevator tucked right in that corner which brings you out close to Roaring Forks for snack runs. You'd be almost evenly spaced between the boat dock to MK and the bus stops (these are at opposite corners of the resort). There are some rooms in this area on the upper floors where you can watch Wishes through the trees.

I just got back from there and we were soooo pleasantly surprised at how much we liked our woodsview 1st floor room (1012). I did not think I would like the first floor on that side (otter pond side) but my 2 dds loved feeding the ducks that would come to our patio and bunnies too. Also, we were able to watch the fireworks at MK every single night from that room. Yes, the trees were mostly in the way but still it was a special bonus that we could see them as well as we could---also the fireworks for the Princess and Pirates party were phenomenal to watch. We loved this room!

One person's noise is another person's white noise. :)

Why my wife and I love lobby rooms, especially on higher floors -

Outside most of the lobby-facing rooms there are nice big comfy chairs overlooking the lobby. Many times, while the kids were napping or sleeping, DW and I would get a cup of hot cocoa (this was right after Thanksgiving) and sit out there, enjoying the lobby setting and scenary above and below. Since the room was not in a high traffic area, it was like having our own little balcony in the lobby. Right around the corner there was a large table with chairs. The kids loved to go there to color and draw pictures of the lobby. By able to sit outside the room and enjoying the view while the kids slept is something you can't do in a non-lobby facing room. Yes, you have outside balcony, but so do lobby-facing rooms. With the latter, you get two retreats :)

This is one nice bonus many people overlook. Most people worry about the noise - it wasn't that bad. You get more noise sometimes from the people next door (and that you can get anywhere, not just lobby-facing).

If you have little kids and plan to have them take naps and such, it's nice to be able to escape to somewhere else, but yet still close to them. Put them to bed, go right outside the door, snuggle up in one of those large comfy wooden chairs, curl up with a nice book and a mug of hot cocoa - ah, life doesn't get any better than that!

I'd second that. That's the North Wing. Ask for a room facing the otter pond. There's a entrance on that end of the wing that'll make it a very short walk from the MK boat dock (ask for a lower floor).

I agree with barefootMom about the 1st floor room on the otter pond side. We just returned and also had a woods view room in this location. At first I thought I would be disappointed, we had stayed in rooms above the lobby on previous visits. But we loved having the patio and the fireworks were great & the ducks visited us daily as well! And the distance to the food court, bus stop and the boat dock were ideal for us. We agreed we would definately stay in this location again!!

I've got a question also about the room location...

We've got a woods view room for our visit in May - I put a request in for the North Wing section, facing MK - but I asked for 4th floor or higher.

I noticed a lot of people here say that the 1st floor is best. Why is that? Should I be asking for a 1st floor room?

Thanks for any advice!:yay:

I also have a room question....we have standard view. I know they start on the fourth floor and have Service area views if you look down. Is there any special requests to make for a standard room? Other than being high up and having great views of delivery vehicles are they far from things? How is the noise?

I saw a pic taken from a standard room....looking out it had a woods view, looking down was the service view. No problem, I'm afraid of heights and won't be looking down anyway. :)

Sorry to hijack this thread, but I've got a question on the subject. We are staying courtyard view. Any suggestions on what I should ask for location wise?

We have stayed in rooms on the 4th/5th floor above the lobby and like those room locations as well. We had requested that area this past trip and then we were given the first floor so far from the lobby or so it felt. It turned out to be great for us.

The patio made the outside area feel open and spacious. Being on the first floor we never used the stairs or elevators except to go to the seating areas above the lobby. And the walk to the food court was easy. To get to the bus stops we just walked past the food court and up the ramp to the lobby, across the lobby and out the side door. The door at the end of the hall made access to the boat dock very convenient.

We have liked all the locations we have ever stayed in at WL! It's hard to pick one over the other. I'm just happy being there :)

WL is really a small resort. That's one of the reasons that I really love it. I do agree with the other posters that my favorite woods view is of the otter pond. We've stayed 1st floor and higher and have enjoyed them all. We especially enjoyed the 1st floor patio. The bunnies, ducks, birds seem to always be around. The kids really enjoyed being so close to the wildlife.

I can't remember the room number, but DH LOVED this room - notice the pool bar right outside of our back door...
