WL Refurbishment?

Hi all,

I was wonder if anyone knows when the WL will start to be refurbished? the reason I ask is when we were there the last week of august-first week of september, almost everyday there were construction workers around the pool, measuring things by the slide, they replaced the decking from the bar to the geyser and towards the end of our stay there were many 'suits' walking around pointing things out by the pool, and on the floor.....there is also a test for new wall paper on the 2nd floor corridor (if my memory serves me correct) on the right wing of the resort.

The new wall paper looked a lot better than what is currently there and I think it will brighten up the corridors a little more.

pirate: I may be wrong about this but I could swear I read somewhere that they will be doing a re-hab sometime next year but I may be wrong. My advice would be to keep checking the WL FAQ section on these boards. The last time we stayed there which was about a year ago we stayed on the Concierge floor and even though the rooms were the same as other floors we've stayed on I thought they were still pretty nice but I've read posts recently that some people thought that the WL was starting to show it's age and needed a re-hab. Just keep checking. Chip.

Construction ? Noise ? Rooms unavailable ?

We are planning our first visit to the WL next year.

I really do not want a resort with paint smells, scafolding around, no use of the pool (sending you over to the CR in your bathing suit :sad1: ), and noise during the day.

Do not get me wrong, I know rooms need revamping once in a while.
I will call WDW tomorrow and ask.
If the AP rates come out in December for June 2006 - I want to know ahead of time if the resort we pick (no refunds on AP best rates) is going to have constrution going on while we are there.

Now where should we stay

We are also planning our first trip to wdw and wl in May 2006. I want it to be perfect. No construction noise or smells. I work in the building industry and am trying to escape...

Just wanted to let you know that even though there was construction along the boardwalk area from the bar to the geyser there was minimal noise and the only inconvience was that the deck was closed in that section whilst they replaced the boards. so I wouldnt worry....of course I have no idea what they are planning but I doubt that we'll see construction at the lodge on the scale of what is happening over in the Cont wing...We'll most likely see floors go down one by one as they re-decorate and move in new furniture?? Which I think the rooms need, we stayed in a Jr Suite and the furniture did look a little worn with scratches on the wood, it was still a very nice room though!!

I'd like to know too, we're going for our first ever to WDW and are staying at the WL. My son gets very sick from weird smells like paint, glue, so I'd really like to know this also. Should I call someone to find out, or will it show up some where. I don't want to wait until Jan 1st and then have to figure out what to do, we are going Jan. 21.

Disney informed me this morning that the renovation has been cancelled.

Informed you? As in they called you and specifically told you the rehab for the WL is off? Did you call to inquire about an upcoming trip? Confused why they would divulge such specific info to a guest.

I called WL this AM.
The CM knew nothing of a rehab at WL.
They sent me to central reservations.
They did not know either - but said if there is a rehab guests would not be distrubed with the work :)

DW informed me because I specifically had called the Central Reservations number and the resort and had asked when renovations were taking place. Yes, I have a trip planned but I had asked specifically about when renovations were taking place and had not given a specific date so I could try to provide helpful information for everyone. I did not go into this in my original post because I did not feel that it was important.

I asked genrically because I used to be a concierge for a living and know the secrets of getting information that is not always given to the public. I wanted to be helpful to everyone and I hope the information helped.

Mixed feelings here. We are booking our wedding guests there in July so obviously Id rather no work done during this time, however my last trip past July they were rehabbing the concierge level and it looked amazing. New light fixtures, rugs, new lounge, wall paper, plasma screens.. the works. The concierge CM swore the whole resort was getting the special treatment. Shame they aren't following through on this.

I understand your concern and I hope the individuals who gave me the information were wrong or the higher ups at DW change their minds again and go through with the renovation. If I hear anything else I will post the information.

We were at the WL the 1st week of September too and saw they were replacing decking. While we were there we had heard about plans for renovations. I hope they end up doing it because we did notice that the carpets, wallpaper, etc. were getting timeworn. It's such a beautiful resort that I'd hate to see it go downhill.

You can change your reservation with Best Rates, so I wouldn't worry too much. If your 'new' reservation costs the same as or more than your 'old' one there's no charge. If your 'new' reservation is less expensive (say, switching from a Deluxe to a Mod) then there is a $50 fee.

IMO the WL is sorely in need of a refurb. I originally booked there for our upcoming January trip but changed my mind and moved to AKL. We were at WL this past February and I thought it looked dingy, especially the bathroom. There were calcium deposits on the fixtures, cracked tiles, a constantly running toilet, and leaky faucet in the bath tub. The wallpaper wasn't looking so hot either. It's a beautiful resort and a good refurb would do it justice, I think.
