WL or Coronado

We are going early December 2016 for a week. We have been before and have stayed at WL, GF, Poly, POR and Contemporary. We have liked every place we have gone except GF.

We are debating about CORONADO or WL this time. A few questions/thoughts for comments:

1. How would you grade the WL pool since renovation and the CORONADO pool? This is a draw for the kids (5, 9)

2. WL transportation was a C for us last time. Buses stopped at another hotel prior to some of the resorts which was a bit annoying. the boat to MK was lovely. How does CORONADO compare and does anyone anticipate WL would be better/worse this round?

3. Christmas decorations...how is Coronado??? I have not seen WL at Christmas but understand it is a real draw.

4. I will watch the construction threads on WL...I'm hoping it will be a little less disruption come December 2016...but as long as the main building is not horribly disturbed I think we may be okay. It is a factor, obviously.

thanks for any opinions or insights!

We stayed at the WL recently. There wasn't a lot of construction going on at that time. Mostly they were bringing in truck loads of sand to prepare the soil for construction. I would estimate that by December the construction will be in full swing, with lots of construction equipment and noise. The south wing is closed for remodeling now, but they hope to have it open by December. If you still want to stay there in spite of the construction mess, then book a courtyard room. Then you won't see it.

I would go with WL. It's beautiful at Christmas time and even with construction going on CSR doesn't compare with WL IMO! Stayed at CSR once and that was it for me, didn't like it at all, though there are many people that love it. That's just my opinion. Have a great trip whatever you choose!

CSR does a great job at Christmas but its tough to compare a mod to a deluxe. CSR does offer some deluxe amenities like a fitness center, spa, salon and dance club. Also, they have concierge-lite. Business class rooms have access to a lounge for continental breakfast and drinks and snacks at night. I prefer the pool at CSR over WL

Wilderness Lodge boat to MK and decorations beat out CSR even with construction IMO. With a courtyard room you get lost in the beauty of the place and you won't even know or care if there is construction.

My choice would be the WL (even with construction). We've never stayed at CSR so I can't compare the pool and transportation, but the WL is amazing during the holidays! The lobby is beautiful anytime of year, but especially so at Christmas time. All of the resorts are nicely decorated for Christmas, but the WL is one of the best (IMO) that time of year. There will probably still be some construction going on in December as I think it's scheduled to go into 2017, but that wouldn't change my choice as we love the WL. Good luck!

The concern I have with WL is right now, they are blocking off windows in the lobby. In theory, the South Wing will reopen by then (although it may be all DVC by then), and they'll reopen the Lobby and the seating areas. But to claim that the construction isn't hitting the main lodge is untrue.

I would review the pictures of where the construction is and consider if it would be negative to your stay. CSR is also a beautiful resort, and should be through a refurb by Christmas (not yet announced; solely conjecture and rumor).

I'm pretty sure we could take bets on which would happen by December: WL letting natural light back into the lobby vs. CSR finishing (let alone starting) a (consistently postponed) room refurb. I'd bet the farm that neither will be true. (although I haven't finished my first cup of coffee this morning, so this could be morning mood talking) ;-)
