WL or AKL for August visit?

We received the postcard for 40% off rates & decided to call this am. I was all set to pick WL/woods view, but after looking at pictures of AKL, my daughter leaning toward that resort. The AKL is just a standard view, so I don't know we will really get the benefit of the animals when our room has no view. Our kids are 13 & 16, if that makes any difference.

I had the same decision to make at Xmas in WDW. I went with the suggestion of my 10 yr old son. He chose the WIlderness lodge! So we have booked it for this August. He chose it for the pool and the searay's!!

WL is really lovely, and the location is more centralized. The only way I think AKL would be worth it is if you had the savannah view, and even then, WL would get my vote.

That is really hard b/c my husband and I love both. You will still get to see the animals at AKL by the way. If it is for Christmas time I would definitely go with WL. And if you are thinking of location WL is very close to the MK. AKL on the other hand is close to AK. However, AK is a little more out of the way but we've never had a problem with the bus system at AKL. Another thing to consider is you share your bus and boat with Fort Wilderness. Not a huge deal. Either one is great.

WL you can also use the bus to get to MK used it this past Sept.

Tough choice for you, both WL & AKL are excellent resorts and in some ways, very similar.

I'm staying at WLV in August, but simply because it *is* home to us - BW is second for creating that feeling for me.

If you've been in August before, you'll know how hot it gets between 11am and 5pm. Many seasoned visitors (and residents) choose to be out of the heat or at the pool side during these hours, so good transportation to/from the parks is very important. Disney's transportation system is the best, but when you don't have to share your ride with other resorts it makes a good ride better.

We just came back from a visit to AKV/WLV and were very impressed with the dedicated bus service AKL has. WL shares their buses for Epcot/AK/MGM with other resorts and they get more crowded as well as take more time with the diverted trips.

However, if you think you'll be spending a lot more time at MK, WL is very convenient to it and you just can't beat those boat crews

I like both. My sons are 14 and 16 yrs old and they liked both too. The room
size it about the same, but the view from AKL cannot be beat. You cannot go wrong with either hotel. Though, if I had to pick from both hotels I would say AKL.

I would do WL just because it's closer to the parks.....

I got the 40% off too and had to make the decision.. i decided on the woods view at wilderness lodge its a nice hotel..although i have not stayed there i have only heard good things about it. I would chose this one..when are you going in august?

We just booked tonight WL woods view also. I am so excited. I never thought we could justify the cost of a deluxe before...I think the rate is great. We are going Aug 10-17. I know it will be terribly hot, but now that the kids are in high school, they don't want to miss any.

I think you made the right choice. For me the reason to choose AKL over WL is ONLY savannah view. Otherwise I prefer the central location of WL. My preference is ALWAYS for an Epcot resort though. . .lol.

AKL..no animal view..then in my opinion not worth it. It's too removed from the other parks. I personally enjoy Animal Kingdom, but wouldn't want the theme for my entire vacation. That's just me. I would consider a room at AKL if it were definetly the Savanah view. With the Wilderness Lodge you have your choice of amenities to enjoy. The water launch to the MK is great. It's such a quick, yet leisurely way to reach the park. If you want to just take a ride over to shop on Main Street..it's right there. No bus ride, take the water launch. Fabulous rockscaped themed pool. The ability to rent water craft at the marina on Bay Lake..either sea sprites or a pontoon boat. The Electric Water Pagent on Bay Lake seen nightly right at your resort. Bike rentals where you can take a ride over to FW. These are just a few of the things we enjoy about the WL.
