This will be our first time at Wl, but not to Disney.;) :) How bad is the heat, crowds. etc.? We have been Sept., Oct. and Dec. But, never in August. So, what can we expect????;)

Also, if you have any great tips on WL....feel free to pass them on! We're so excited...we have wanted to stay here ever since we seen the resort for the first time.;)

Thanks!:D

We'll be at WL from 20th - 25th August - and we just can't wait!

I'll be watching this thread with interest!

It will be hot - just like everywhere else in FL in August ;)

That being said - I think the theming of WL makes it feel cooler and my tip is that they really air condition it - so you will need a sweater for inside. It is crowded at that time - so just take it easy and tour at your own pace. Take advantage of the cooler early mornings.

You will love it!:Pinkbounc

we live in florida and august can be pretty hot, usually in the 90's and especially in orlando, high 90's. summer is the time when we have our daily thundershowers (be aware of lightening). just remember, as we do, to drink PLENTY of water, wear sun screen and take frequenty shade breaks. we usually go back to the hotel around 2:00 p.m. or 3:00 p.m. and take a rest then go back into the parks after 5:00 p.m.

just take the heat seriously and take it easy and you will have a great time. take advantage of the air conditioning in the parks.

have a great vacation.

We were there the last two wks of August last year. Florida was hot but believe it or not it was hotter in NY were we are from. The WL is beautiful and you will have a great time. The pool is a great place to cool off. The whole place just seems to say relax. One of the most memorable things we did was to request to be a flag family when we checked in. What this is is that you get to raise the 5 flags on the roof early one morning. A WL ranger takes you to the roof gives you a little tour, and the view from up there is incredible. It was alot of fun we had ranger Stan, what a nice man he is. We also saw the electric water pageant late one evening. Also you can take the boat directly to the Magic Kingdom. You will have a wonderful time it is our favorite resort.

PS. We like always go the last 2 wks in August because the crowds are pretty light.

Thanks for your replys! I assumed it would be hot. I haven't been to Florida when it wasn't hot!;) hehehe But light crowds would be great! We have never had a ton of people when we were there. We plan on taking it easy and relaxing...that will be a first at WDW!!:) ;)

I live here and take the advice already given. Keep a water bottle with you and fill it at the rest rooms. Sunscreen a must. Don't let the crowds intimdate you into hurrying. Take a break, plenty of spots to sit.
Take in a show between rides as they are AC.

I also live in Long Island, NY and also stayed at Wilderness Lodge in the last week in Aug. and all I can say is it felt absolutely the SAME--maybe even LESS humid!! lol...

The WL has a cooling influence on your hot, tired soul. You will love this place with its incredible theme, beautiful vistas and beachfront (to view the nighttime Electrical Water Pageant).

Trust me on this one--the heat will fade away from your memory and you will be left with memories of a fantastic vacation.

Have fun--Wilma:cool:

I will never forget the time we were staying at Dixie Landings ( I refuse to call it POR;) ). It was a hot month, June I think. We were at MK and it was crowded and oh so hot. We had stayed at WL before, and decided to just get on the boat and head on over. That wonderful feeling of coolness when we walked into the lobby. We just sat there for about an hour, and then were able to make it back to DL.

We will be going to VWL this September (which is also a very hot month). We could have booked a room at OKW (and saved some DVC points), but decided to return home to our VWL because we could not face the heat at any other resort.

Great choice, enjoy!

My wife and I will be there from the 9th-16th, my concern is not the heat (we live in Texas), but the crowds. Hopefully school starts around then :)

Local here and crowds will still be pretty good size. They taper off after Labor Day.

I don't know what days of the weeks your dates fall on, but Wednesday is the best day to go to MK. Monday early is best for MGM.
Tuesdays can be bad and we are at WI in July and we will spend it at the resort.
Disney.go.com you can search worst and best times for each park. Use the search feature on the home page.
Down here we rarely go on the weekends, F-S-S, unless some our Yankee friends come down.
