I really want to stay with my niece and nephew (first trips to WDW) at the Wilderness Lodge. I'll probably book a Courtyard Bunk Bed room. Do you guys think that's crazy with all the construction going on?

I'm currently booked there too for August. I've got a standard room booked because we don't spend a lot of time at the hotel. We were there in 2014 when they were working on the spring/waterfall and didn't encounter any noise.

How old are the niece and nephew, and would the closed amenities impact you?

Key things that might impact you:
  • Bigger crowds at main pool if quiet pool is not complete
  • No place to watch Electrical Water Pageant because the beach is becoming bungalows
  • Playground is closed
  • Possible noise/view issues
  • To have an evening campfire, you will need to boat to Fort Wilderness
  • movie under the stars is moving inside
If the kids are older, these may not be concerns. If they are younger, these might be.

I forgot to mention their ages. Niece is 12 (almost 13 going on 30) and Nephew will be just turned 15 (still stuck at 13). hehe. TMI, sorry.

I've been going back and forth between resorts with them. I want them to be amazed by the resort, which I think would happened when we walk into the Lobby. I was thinking AKL, but they are very, very picky eaters. basically it's gonna be pizza and chicken nuggets for a week for them. I thought maybe the would find something to eat at Whispering Canyon (but I doubt they would eat anything at Boma, Jiko, or Sanaa).

I may just book POR so we have the food court for them to be picky at. UGH! this is so much harder than I thought it would be. Sorry for venting.

I am going through the same problem. I have currently booked POFQ for December, but my DH will hate it. If he decides to come with us, I want to move to WL, but I am very nervous about construction there, and worry it will have a negative impact on our stay. If he comes I do need a resort that sleeps five or an extra room so the considerations are financial as well as comfort. Oh the decisions!

I know. It's so much fun planning but then when little things like this come into play, the decision making process gets really complicated.

I think the rooms and main building itself will probably be wonderful, but as someone said earlier, it's the amenities that are not going to be available. So that helps a lot (thank you _auroraborealis_) IF we aren't going to use the campfire pit, or want to watch a movie under the stars, WL will probably be OK.

Port Orleans Riverside can sleep 5 and is equally (IMHO) wonderful as the French Quarter. You could even take a romantic stroll down to the French Quarter (just to help make your decision harder):scared::scared::scared:

Oh sure! Add to the decisions!! Lol!

I would not hesitate to stay on the resort side

The villa side would bother me

But we don't use any of the closed items

Can you not see the boat parade from the boat dock?

I'm not sure they're bringing it over that far. Possibly. But it still makes a much smaller area for people to stand, even if they are.

I hate the bungalows already for all the cut down trees. :(

So the construction had changed the Route? When we stayed there it went past the dock. Granted, we watched from the room. The bungalows won't block the view of the rooms on the upper floors but that's only if the parade keeps the same path

I don't know. I think in the long run, things MAY change, more my point. We don't know right now.

We just came back from a week at the villas... yes, lots of trees down, made the view of the water parade from our 4th floor room was nice. However, I do miss having that "wilderness" feel in the absence of the trees. I do hope Disney re-plants some of the trees taken down. They did keep some of the more mature trees.

FYI... we did receive 3 limited addition pins for staying at the villas due to construction.

I'm sorry. ;-)

In case you all are waiting on the edge of your seats, I've decided to change my reservations to the Wilderness Lodge - Courtyard View Bunk Beds !!!! :jumping1:

I've also decided to leave it up to Disney Fate and let them decide if I shouldn't stay there.
