hello everyone here! i hope i can get some help from all of you experts on the wilderness lodge! i will be in FL for the whole month of nov, and my husband and i were thinking for heading up to disney for a quick 4 day trip. i called CRO and they told me it would be a room only rate of $199. is this normal? i mean, isnt there any cheaper rates out there? i just went in sept on the FT pkg for a week and the total w/ tkts was only $1400, so i just cant see spending over $600 for 3 nights and no tkts or anything! we will NOT stay anywhere else, it is either the WL or we wont go (spoiled huh?!) then we have to factor in the tkts to the parks, and the food...probably will end up costing just as much if not more than our sept trip! i'd love to go, but think 199 is a bit much! has anyone had any luck with last minute ressies? will the front desk do ressies, or do i have to go through cro?

any help would be appreciated!
thanks!
-Kris

Hi Kris - the $199/night is regular rack rate. Do you have AAA? You could always see if they have a AAA discount for the days you are staying. Check Mousesavers.com for any discounts as they come out. Good luck:D

Definitely check out the AAA discount. I bought a AAA membership for our disney trip alone (and I figured we could use it since my hubby likes to lock his keys in his vehicle at least 3x a year). For the Value season, we got a 20% discount off rack-rate at CSR.

November seems to be pretty booked this year so they're not giving out alot more discounts.

Its WL normal rack rate for that time of year. AAA may have a discount. WDW is being frugale this year with the room only discounts. April school vacation 2003 we got the WL courtyard view for 124+ tax. Then they upgraded (no charge) us to concierge level -- what a vacation!

Me and my hubby are WL fanatics and we usually pay up to 335.00/night during Peak season, so 199.00/night in the value season is a great rate. Don't forget...the WL is a DELUXE resort, so you will pay more. And it is a wonderful place to stay. We have always enjoyed our stay no matter what the cost. :)

Last year DH and I stayed there at 109.00 per night.

ok so what tactics should i use to try to get a lower rate? should i ask about a moderate, then ask if there are any deluxes for a mod. rate? i guess since the FTP was a success, disney doesn't need to discount rooms for the end of the year!

If a AAA discount is available, join AAA. That's probably the best you'll be able to do with a room-only reservation. WL is typically a lower-priced deluxe resort already, so I doubt you'd get anywhere asking for another deluxe room at a moderate rate. If $199 or the AA rate is too much, you may have to adjust your desires and stay at a moderate.

If I were you I would try to rent some points from a DVC member for Sunday through Wednesday night,(if you want 4 nights). Friday and Saturday nights are about double so it wouldn't be a good deal.

It would be 48 points which translates to $480.00 for the 4 nights.Normal points rentl cost is $10.00 per point. If the villas are available. A studio at WLV are much better than a regular room at WL.

Good luck.

Since you are going to be in Florida for a whole month can you ask them what dates they have some cheaper rates available. I know that they seemed to be really booked up through about the 16th and I am sure Thanksgiving week is a sell-out but maybe you could find a few days in there where they will be slow and plan your trip around those dates. There is nothing worse than thinking you are calling for dates in what you think will be a slow time of year and then finding out they are just about sold out. By the time I call I have so talked myself into a WDW trip that I end up paying the going rate regardless. As far as renting points are concerned, we are waitlisted for the first week in November at just about every DVC resort and have not had anything open up yet. Good luck!
