We would like to stay at the Wilderness Lodge for our upcoming December trip. This will be our first time in a deluxe, and my Mom's first trip to WDW. I was wondering what the overall opinion is about the transportation from this resort. Since we won't have a car, I am very concerned about the Disney transportation system from this resort. We have always had great service at the value and moderate resorts, so hopefully I am worrying about nothing.

Also, what is the cheapest type of room to request and at what location in the resort? My mom is balking at paying a lot for the room, but I really want to try a deluxe, and with 3 adults, we will probably need the room. Thanks for all the help!

I would request a standard room. That is the least expensive option! Chances are, you may get upgraded to a woods or courtyard view(if the resort is not sold out). The North side is usually requested for standard view rooms, but ask for a room at the end of the u-shape.
As far as the transportation goes, the boat to MK is usually pretty fast. The buses run often enough to MGM and AK.

I have to agree, the transportaion is not a problem at all. There is a boat to MK and buses to everywhere else, but there is also a boat to CR and you can catch the monorail from there.
